He's such a fun villain. Entertaining to watch, and both the actor and the character seem like they're enjoying themselves in their respective actions. For all Brixton's big talk about being beyond human, he's still emotional and petty: he revels in Shaw's shock and horror when they first lay eyes on each other; he's sadistic, he's tempermental, and at the very end he's actually insulted that he's being thrown away. It makes the character far more enjoyable than he could have been with different writing/direction/acting. This movie dips its toes -- just a bit -- into superhero and genre territory, and while I know that turned some people off, that's precisely what made me like this one so much. The "Fast and Furious" label on this is there for marketing: that's the origin of these two characters. The movie is very much its own thing with its own tone, and that's what a spinoff should be. The original series is just as unrealistic; this movie just embraces that and leans into it instead of trying to pass its plot off as something remotely real-world. What ties it all back to F&F thematically is that element of found family, which is 100% the heart of this movie.
