Loved the video and comments about e-bikes. My husband and I switched from analog (he still has his) to an Orbea Rise 3 years ago. Now we both have the Pivot Shuttle LS, which has the same motor as your Ari Nebo. We loved that it was light and rode just like our analog bikes. As you mentioned towards the end of the vid, you need to tune the bikes to your liking. We've tuned ours so that we run out of battery at about the same time. We also have a profile that mimics analog, so that when we ride with analog bikes, the motor is just taking away the extra weight and drag of the ebike 🙂. What I really appreciated with your comments is that folks of different fitness levels, or endurance can now ride together. That was the primary reason I bought one years ago. I was struggling to keep up with all the men I ride with and it was totally stressing me out. The light e-bike took away all the stress and let's me ride with the guys without pinning my heart rate to the red zone for the entire time ! What people need to realize is that these are NOT motorcycles, and you still have to work at it, as we heard you both breathing heaving during your ride 🙂. The best part, IMHO is that it will keep me in the mountain biking game for years to come, which is fantastic. And for all you ebike haters, lighten up, it's ok to have fun. Peace out
Thank you so much for being inclusive of e-bikes and demonstrating their value. For many people e-bikes are a chance to ride when it would not be possible otherwise. For others it is a great way to commute and save on gas. It doesn’t matter why, what matters is that we all get out and ride and stay active.

Great looking bikes. The orange one makes me hungry for some reason! I’ve been mountain biking for 35 years and now ride an e bike and love it. I do use it for fitness training by turning it off on flat or low gradients then when my legs feel spent I switch it back on! I also like doing technical uphills - it helps develop trials skills, balance and control! Have fun!
How could anybody be negative on this channel is beyond me. I’ve been following for a couple years now and these two are hard working athletes trying to show us the many different aspects of mountain biking ❤ and Mackys just plain chilled 😎
Wishing you every success in 2024 (and more) with your new bike sponsor. As an old bullet, who loves the mountains, try building endurance (low heart rate) without an ebike! The alternatives; an indoor trainer or a flat road are simply too painful to consider. What a magic tool, you can control your input power to just what you need, have fun, and keep on top of your skills!
I live in hilly country and as a person with serious heart issues, I can dial in exactly what assistance I need to maintain my target heart rate at any given moment. I would likely not go riding each day without my eBike. I find my five year old 250 watt "pedelec" (an eBike with no throttle) provides plenty of power to have an immense amount of fun. Thanks for the video.
My husband (74) and I (72) are still riding "acoustic" bikes, but I know e-bikes are in our future. Thanks for the look at the Nebo Peak. It makes me want an e-bike now (just need more garage space)!

Agree with you guys 💯 regarding e-bikes. It helps extend the ability of riders and allows different endurance levels riders to ride together. Love your comments on ebikes. I used to hate'em. However, what changed my mind was a young cardiac patient who loved mountain biking who, otherwise, couldn't without the ebike. Also, I'd see people out on trails on ebikes- older or out of shape folks who were just trying to get out there and have some fun on a trail. Why would I bag on someone if they are just trying to get better or explore? Yup. completely changed my mind on the things. I'm not going to get one any time soon, but better understand why people go to them.
I would love to see a tutorial on using the app to change the support you get (as you talk about around 31:40). I'm currently on a Giant Elite 3 and the app is super easy to use on it. Regarding ebikes in general, the only "safety" issue I've noticed is the need to be responsible as a rider on climbs with blind corners. I descend at about the same speed regardless of whether I'm on an ebike or mtb. But climbing uphill where you normally might go 5mph, now you're hitting 10+mph. Because of that, there's much less time to react for both riders, when you meet beak-to-beak on the climbs, so just be aware of that.
I like that 15 minute nap, 45 minutes later lol. That's alright I do the same when I'm home napping. Like today I told myself I'd lay down for 30 minutes and 1 1/2 hours later got up and started working on my hobby room. Got to love naps.
Great video! For people worried about the e-bikes causing crowded trails, there are not that many people wanting to risk their safety on most mountain bike trails I don't think and they are expensive so not many people can afford them, but then maybe this could be some incentive or inspiration for building, making more bike trails and parks. There are quite a few people in the world that hate mountain bike riders in general I feel. I know I have gotten that attitude a few times here locally so I think we should all try to be supportive of each other not hating on each other regardless of what kind of bike you ride.
I enjoy all of your vids. Love your interactions and adventures. Times are tough for athletes in your spot... don't be shy about telling us about your sponsors when you love the product!
I think people are generally coming around on ebikes, there's always gonna be the pinkbike commenters who turn their noses up at em but they've got a place for just about everyone. My dad's got an ebike and he can join me now, I've used it for practicing downhill, just getting to focus on technique and not breathing through my eyeballs. As a mechanic they can be frustrating as they come with a unique set of problems and serviceability but ultimately i'm glad more people can be part of our sport, and those of us that are already here have more options. Also super sweet to see the koryak finishing kit, feel like i only ever see it on s-tec and when our shimano rep comes around. Also also it looks like y'all have got a bonkers amount of seat tube available on these, i reckon both of you could fit a properly huge dropper if you didn't care about the weight increase As always, sweet vid, glad you're well, bikes look sweet! :)
My wife and I are part of the group that cheered for you at Iceman. Therefore I'm claiming I get a vote. The video for who wears out first the bike or the rider.... Yes please.
Happy to see you back in business and smiling!👍 I myself are firmly at the side where your legs is the motor as a bicycle rider😎. BUT I say this: A. Electric MTB's have their rightful place! B. If you want to ride one... GO FOR IT ! C. It's about enjoying your ride with your bicycle. D. I agree that an electric MTB can be a useful tool for your training 100% ! 👍 E. People should keep themself into proportions when discussing about E-MTB's for or against it.🤔🙄 F. Simply have fun ! 🤗 Keep up the good work!😎
I’ve had a Fezzari for a few years. The only reason I know of your channels is because they recommended syd fixes bikes to me for some maintenance I was doing.
Now I’m finished the video. The bikes look awesome. I particularly love the bold orange. The technical terrain is a perfect play ground for the e-bikes. A ride to the death would be a good video (battery obviously, stay safe haha)
I have both mid power (TQ) and full powered (Bosch) emtbs. The mid power has replaced my regular bike and full powered is great for keeping up in group rides and riding "with the guys".
Nice ride. Yeah, Trail 8 & Jenkinson Lake are great trails but are very (too) dusty right now. Once we get some wet weather, ride it again. BTW, all those burned trees are from the Caldor Fire 2-3 yrs ago. That fire was huge, spreading from east Placerville all the way up to S. Lake Tahoe... took out Sierra at Tahoe for an entire winter. Oh, check out Apple Hill, although try to avoid the weekends (traffic... in the country).
Yes, that area where you guys got lost at the beginning is difficult to navigate and what you’ll find is if you go a little bit farther and then cross perpendicular to the what used to be riverbed then you will find an opening that will take you back up to the trails that you eventually ended up on
It sounds like a fun bike. I love my Delano peak and the Nebo Peak looks like it has similar geometry. It does sound like the power modes need to be explored more. And yes, a video to see who quits first (you two or your Nebos) would be great to see.
Oh my, I'm not the only one who uses side mount cage for left hand, not right! FYI, Nebo means Sky in Russian (Небо). Great bikes! Sure they will help you a lot. Best of luck in the upcoming season!
You liked that first corner because of the extra stability you experienced due to the additional e-bike weight. You probably felt “planted” in the turn.
I use my ebike for Zone 2 work. It's so much better than being inside on the smart trainer when the weather is good. I wish ebike motor manufacturers would allow you to do a variable program based on max rider watts and/or HR.
Red Classic Loop is so hard to follow, but fun to session in certain areas. Wish those trails were marked better. Stairway to Hell is much easier to follow up but brutally hard to stay on the bike for the first half. The descent from Stairway is SO GOOD, though! Some of the best technical riding around but barely marked. I went out with white spray pain a month ago and was marking it better but gashed my shin on my pedal, which ruined my plans. Hopefully, I will finish marking later at some point. Cheers, love yalls channel!
Cool looking bikes and that trail you went on looked like such fun and this is like my dream landscape to ride in but there's nothing like this where I'm from in Iceland.
Hmmm, I have never heard of Fezzari or Ari Bikes before. So I looked up their online store. The Nebo Peak seems to be an interesting concept with excellent specs and cool features. Congratulations on achieving a new relationship with Ari as one of your sponsors. You picked a hard place for your 1st test ride. The bikes seemed to handle it admirably. Your tyres seemed a little skinny for handling the terrain. I would much prefer my 3" rubber. For my riding, even though I'm nowhere near as fit as you two, I set my assistance ranges at: 35%-to-55% for the lowest level; 50%-to-75% for the mid-level, and 100%-to-100% for Turbo. At the lowest level, the bike still provides assistance up to 190-to-200 watts of input from my body. I mostly stay at that lower level to get a good hard workout. Plus, I have often been able to travel 140 km on a single battery charge. Oh, and I agree with your comment about ratchet pedalling when climbing awkward step-ups. Sometimes the extra torque can cause you to break traction. Once you've had an e-bike for a while, you get into the habit of pedalling with a higher cadence. I'm 72. I first got an e-bike when I turned 65. It enables me to keep riding for longer and cover more distances whilst keeping up with my 45-year-old son and his mates. Otherwise, I might have given up riding. Over the last 7 years, my skills have vastly improved and my PRs on gnarly sections of trail are always getting better. E-bikes enable you to discover the joy of uphill flow. About 18 months ago, I made a significant upgrade to my e-bike. Along with getting my motor re-conditioned with much stronger bearings and vastly improved water-proof seals, I had the rear mech changed out for Rohloff internal hub gearing. This gave me a much wider range of gearing, along with virtually eliminating gear maintenance. I just do an oil change once a year. I'm going to keep on following your evaluations of the Ari Nebo Peak. Maybe one of those will be my next bike?
Personally e-bikes have been great for me. My son races in NICA and there is no way I would be able to keep up with him without an e-bike. With the e-bike we are able to ride together and have a fun enjoyable time. It has been great for our relationship.
I have decided to call Mackey’s new e-bike the,”Great Pumpkin”! Awesome chunk tech riding guys! I rented a Stumpjumper e-bike seven years ago and rode it all day on single track at 9000 ft. The next day my lats and other back muscles were sore from pulling the heavy front end up and over logs and step-ups🤔
Depending on the effort you apply depends how long your battery last . My battery on my road E bike is rated at 40 miles. I am able to get 100 miles of battery life on eco.
E-bikes are the great. Colleague of mine got one for birthday and started commuting on it. About 30 mins one way. After about 3 months he commented that the batteries are getting run in and now lasts longer…. (right). One day he came into the office and looked a bit smoked and complained that the commute took over 30 minutes. He had forgotten the battery…
Thanks for this video. I’ve been waiting for someone to make sense of ebikes for the fit and healthy demographic. I’m one of “those guys” that have no desire to have an ebike and don’t at all understand the appeal. Mainly because “they’re fun” doesn’t register. I’m 58, generally fit (not S&M fit - that sounds funny) and ride bikes for fitness first, and fun second. I think reg mtbs are incredibly fun. I live at 8,000 ft and my rides gain 1500-3000 ft elevation typically. I have no desire to lose that climbing fitness, that would be LESS fun. Syd’s explanation helps me understand why able/fit riders might benefit. I retire from my day job this year and will have more time - and definitely starting to feel my recovery time lengthening. So I’m sure an ebike is in my future, but not interested now. My main point? That doesn’t make me a hater! I AM nice. Really!
Yeah these are pretty short cranks (160mm). We have had 175mm on most of our bikes and 165mm on last year's enduro bikes. To be honest, as a tall person I don't love the feel of short cranks and am a little confused why this is a trend. It doesn't really affect the way the bike rides in any material way, but I definitely notice it when pedaling and feel a bit like a circus bear lol. However, with lower bottom brackets, it can help with pedal strikes, especially if you are switching between bikes a lot and one bike has a significantly lower bottom bracket (this is why we put shorter cranks on our enduro bikes).
I hope you follow up on the long term reliability of the ride 60 motor and controller. I like the idea of a lighter mid-assist emtb. The Nebo is pricey but just doable for me. I'm concerned about the online discussions about Fazua reliability. At 66, I want some assist on the climbs, and I don't want a full fat.
We went hiking at the San Ysidro trails last fall. No way we could have ridden most of them on our hardtails. Route finding was difficult in areas but so beautiful there.
congrats on the new sponsor...they are lucky to have a classy couple like you guys on their bikes....now...lets see those ebikes shred up some flowy trails without all the rocks...the white bike color scheme looks great....the orange/red not my thing.
You can turn the acceleration off or low to feel more like a regular bike. I have the heckler sl with the same fazua ride 60. I keep it off personally.
I really like orange as a bike colour, but Syds bike is really 🔥with the linkage, Nobl decals and nipples that match the Kashima and the white spokes that match the frame.
It's less about a difference in the actual frame and more about how they set up the bike based on your measurements: aribikes.com/pages/23-point-custom-setup
I watch Syd and Macky because I like the people, and love watching them race. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest whether they are racing gravel, mtb, e-bikes or a tandem. 🙂🚴🏻🏔️
I really don't understand the whole trail legality for e-bikes in the US. Mackys bike barely weighs 2 kg more than my non-e-trail-bike. Also that Fazua motor won't add a destructive amount of torque. Especially when you consider now, that I probably weigh 20 kg more than Macky, what's the point of not allowing e-bikes on certain trails? Although I don't own an e-bike myself I'm glad we don't have this stupid rule in Germany. On the other hand our e-bikes are only allowed to assist up to 25 km/h 🤷♂️
Completely agree. I think it's primarily based on people not understanding what e-bikes are/how they work and lots of fear mongering. Hopefully we'll figure it out moving forward and more trails will become ebike legal!
Man. That was some serious gnar for a recovery ride, even on an e-bike. Im afraid id get seriously spoiled if i had one of those. Better wait a few more years before i get one. 😂
9:41 Never put a two mode only dropper on a trail bike. It is cool for cross country with less hub, but the lack of middle position would make insane on mellow trails.

E-mtb’s are perfect for staying in zone 2, and still have fun, which is impossible on a regular mtb, without walking the steep inclines🙌👍
I enjoy all of your vids. Love your interactions and adventures. Times are tough for athletes in your spot... don't be shy about telling us about your sponsors when you love the product!
I love your take on ebikes, especially the "be nice." Besides, many people I see on them would probably not be active at all without them.
Yes, love to see what gives out first.
I just checked out Ari's website, and they offer so many colors!!
Also also it looks like y'all have got a bonkers amount of seat tube available on these, i reckon both of you could fit a properly huge dropper if you didn't care about the weight increase
As always, sweet vid, glad you're well, bikes look sweet! :)
Ebikes are the best thing invented with two wheels since the acoustic bike!!
And I did genuinely not know Ari bikes, chapeu!
Nice tire selection. I just got the same on my single speed two weeks ago. It's very grippy and fun. My prior setup spun out a lot on uphills.
My wife and I are part of the group that cheered for you at Iceman. Therefore I'm claiming I get a vote. The video for who wears out first the bike or the rider.... Yes please.
Love your take on ebikes. So true.
I tried out an e-bike at my local bike shop last week and, HOLY CRAP, that was a blast! I felt like a little kid riding a bike for the first time!
Just turning 72 on Tuesday hitting Bentonville on Thursday with my Trek Rail 9.8! Ebike make this happen.
Happy to see you back in business and smiling!👍
I myself are firmly at the side where your legs is the motor as a bicycle rider😎. BUT I say this:
A. Electric MTB's have their rightful place!
B. If you want to ride one... GO FOR IT !
C. It's about enjoying your ride with your bicycle.
D. I agree that an electric MTB can be a useful tool
for your training 100% ! 👍
E. People should keep themself into proportions
when discussing about E-MTB's for or against it.🤔🙄
F. Simply have fun ! 🤗
Keep up the good work!😎
I’ve had a Fezzari for a few years. The only reason I know of your channels is because they recommended syd fixes bikes to me for some maintenance I was doing.
Really?! That's awesome!
Great video. Would love to see what settings you ended up with so we can all compare
Great video, your e-bikes look like a lot of fun!
Pretty impressive how you can throw around those bikes on Moto/Trials super tecky trails
Ari was smart to jump on you guys as like me I imagine there are many more who have never heard of them!!!
Great vid as usual ! Need to get some e-bikes for Sid’s parents !
They both have them already!
Agreed. One of the things we're excited about with the Nebos is customizing the modes to better suit our training.
Cool looking bikes and that trail you went on looked like such fun and this is like my dream landscape to ride in but there's nothing like this where I'm from in Iceland.
thats a pretty Bike Macky im sure you will have a ton of fun on it
Wow! I have to get an EBike!
I'm sorry for the other comment, assuming you're advertising their emtb. I love all bikes especially My emtb's. Enjoy, happy for you guys.
So beautiful color !! I hope to see more poppy color bikes ❤
Be Nice or as you all say “Be More Awesome” 👍🚵🏻♀️🚴🏼♂️
I have decided to call Mackey’s new e-bike the,”Great Pumpkin”! Awesome chunk tech riding guys!
I rented a Stumpjumper e-bike seven years ago and rode it all day on single track at 9000 ft. The next day my lats and other back muscles were sore from pulling the heavy front end up and over logs and step-ups🤔
Could you tell me what the mount brand is that you are using to mount your bike computer?
It's this one: amzn.to/4c875YA
Thanks!@@sydandmacky
I love the colors of both of these bikes they really look good.
Hey guys, love the content! Great stuff!! Quick question.. can you let me know the support mount you use for the cycling computer? Thx!
It's this one: amzn.to/43cEFZB
Depending on the effort you apply depends how long your battery last . My battery on my road E bike is rated at 40 miles. I am able to get 100 miles of battery life on eco.
That was a really nice ride.
Great review! What drive train are you running on the bikes?
Shimano XT 12-speed
Pretty light considering my Norco sight is about 38.4 lbs sweet color too
E-bikes are the great.
That is awesome!
I AM nice. Really!
Great video….that climb would have been gnarly without some help…looks like a ton of fun.
Any difference in crank lengths with emtbs compared to previous rides? If so, what are your impressions?
Yeah these are pretty short cranks (160mm). We have had 175mm on most of our bikes and 165mm on last year's enduro bikes. To be honest, as a tall person I don't love the feel of short cranks and am a little confused why this is a trend. It doesn't really affect the way the bike rides in any material way, but I definitely notice it when pedaling and feel a bit like a circus bear lol. However, with lower bottom brackets, it can help with pedal strikes, especially if you are switching between bikes a lot and one bike has a significantly lower bottom bracket (this is why we put shorter cranks on our enduro bikes).
the built in power meter should be one of the top features they promote. that's easily a $1K value
Would def like to see more kids on battery life, different modes, how much ascent you can do, etc. I really want a Nebo Peak.😍
That orange color is fire!!
congrats on the new sponsor...they are lucky to have a classy couple like you guys on their bikes....now...lets see those ebikes shred up some flowy trails without all the rocks...the white bike color scheme looks great....the orange/red not my thing.
You can turn the acceleration off or low to feel more like a regular bike. I have the heckler sl with the same fazua ride 60. I keep it off personally.
do u think u can do a video on how to setup and line up the deraliure plss
ruclips.net/video/BVuhqFFXaHM/видео.html
I really like orange as a bike colour, but Syds bike is really 🔥with the linkage, Nobl decals and nipples that match the Kashima and the white spokes that match the frame.
Hi again. Curious if you can feel a difference between the standard sizing of mountain bikes or the more custom fit of the Ari? Thanks.
It's less about a difference in the actual frame and more about how they set up the bike based on your measurements: aribikes.com/pages/23-point-custom-setup
@@sydandmacky Thank you!!
How do you deal with the increased q factor on ebikes? I just bought a used Repeater and the wider stance is giving my left knee a hard time
That's personal preference. We never use anything but fully up and fully down on any of our bikes.
You guys put me on edge 😅
