- Watch Dev Patel: The Story So Far in full on BBC iPlayer in the UK: bbc.in/37igiM0
In this ‘Story So Far’ interview, Dev Patel talks to BBC Radio 1’s Ali Plumb about his latest film, The Personal History of David Copperfield, and (almost) everything he’s done before: Skins, Slumdog Millionaire, Lion and much more. Find out how he reacts at weddings when DJs press play on ‘Jai Ho’, who people mistake him for and what it’s actually like to be a Hollywood star (not that he’s comfortable with that phrase, mind).

Sweet and humble guy, talented actor and he's aging like a damn fine wine, too.
Well, he's 29, still a pretty young wine.
He issssssssss 29, he issssssss youuuuuuung
oh my goodness, if i was his mother, i would never stop bringing up that skins audition story...... after every gig, every award
"you remember how i had to drag you into this?? how you fought me??????"
"......yes, mum"
Well, then I must say that ud be a pretty annoying, nagging mom
This is why I like Ali more than other interviewers, no one else would bring up the Skins except him. It was an excellent tv series and full of joy.
Sean evens is good too! Between him and ali idk who's better..
Yeah. Sean Evans is good. I prefer Ali over Sean because most of his questions are movie trivia related and resourceful. He actually studies before his interviews. It's pretty hard to impress legends like Spike Lee or Denzel Washington within this small time. Ali clean bowled both time.
@@SaidurRahmanSajal umm sean does his research as well..almost all the guests are genuinely impressed with his questions!!
;the ' skins? hahaha
Also, he's gives off a vibe of just being genuinely interested and kind. A great listener and inquisitive interviewer.
Mama Patel sounds like the best. Big up Mama Patel for raising such a humble son as Dev. Great interview by Ali Plumb , as always
Don't think he didn't get slapped around a lot to turn out to be such a good man.. I speak from experience.. Indian mothers ain't afraid of their kids crying.. they are gangsta.
@@riturajsinghbais Yeah LOL. Nigerian parents are even more gangsta 😄
@@franklingoodwin I bet they are.
He’s so handsome
This man is flawless and a powerhouse. He just can't do a bad job.
Also the smile. That damn smile.
Man Dev is so charming 😭
And cute.
"THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY" what a class acting! i cried.
@Abby Howlter right
YES!
I think Dev was robbed of an Oscar after doing Lion. He is so, so very talented
The accent… he’s British and yet, he’s nailed the Indian accent!!! THAT’S TALENT!!!
Well, his parents are indian so I guess he was taught both languages when he was a child.
I sobbed so hard at 'Lion', I've never been able to watch it again. Looking forward to David Copperfield though.
I also sobbed. I cry harder each time. I’ve watched it 3 times and it ruins me. This movie should be the most popular!
Same here I couldn’t re watch it but is burn in my brain 😢
Dev is the coolest British Asian actor atm!
I agree but it's quite a small category😂
Kai Mills definitely. Hahaaa.
British Indian specifically
MMG - Moon Man Guitar Riz Ahmed is pretty cool too
rosalie_m oh yeah Riz! Forgot all about him. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
he's literally the cutest lil . bean
gangly bean ;-)
I wish Ali asked him about The Newsroom. Dev was brilliant in that show
13:59 His squeal oh myyyyyy 😩❤️❤️
I love him from the bottom of my heart. He is such a kind soul. What an amazing mum tho.
hes so pure. his eyes tell alot
Dev is so sweet and charming and adorably himself! He deserves all his success... so humble and kind, not to mention talented! ❤️
Loved him in Lion
I didn't give Dev a second glance in Slumdog Millionaire, but now that's he's filled out a bit and grown out his hair and beard, I find him so so so so so hot.
Please this is so me right now
He is so beautiful. I really think he is perfect.
He grew up so good looking it's mad. I don't get why David Copperfield has such a low rating on imdb because I thought it was sublime.
Perhaps it was because a British/Asian actor was playing David Copperfield when it's pretty obvious that when Charles Dickens wrote the book he would only have had in mind a white boy given the period. Just as it's very objectionable that a Black actress play Ann Boleyn, Henry VIII's 2nd wife and mother of Queen Elisabeth I. Why this necessity to replace our history be it fictional characters or moreso historical by what is referred to as minorities? What message are they trying to convey? I remember the outcry from Blacks when Zoe Zaldana played the role of Nina Simone in the biopic. She was considered "too" white. Zoe Zaldana even gave an interview where she apologised for having accepted the role and agreed it should have been given to an actress "blacker" than her. Do you think a white actor would be accepted to play the role of, let's say, Mohammed Ali or even if the white actor would accept the role? And what about "Shaft" played by Richard Roundtree, a black actor, a cult series. I believe a new film came out in 2019, and is it a white actor playing the role, no, it's a black actor. Would black people have accepted a white actor to play the part? Personally, I doubt it. In fact, it has never happened, has it? And do you know why for the Black populations would never, ever accept it. And I know people will say but David Copperfield is a fictional character so anyone should be able to play him regardless of his colour but that in my opinion is too easy. Charles Dickens just like Shakespeare are part of our British White heritage . They lived in periods where if there were blacks or asians their numbers would have be insignificant. African literature, Asian literature for that matter would not include whites and why would they. And don't bombard me with insults saying I'm racist, just imagine how you would react if a white actor were chosen to play the role of a significant figure in black history be it fictional or historical and then let me know.
@@EVALLOYD Ohhhhhh my god what is this essay? lmao go outside you weirdo.
@@hwren9845 Hi! want to come outside and join me troll!
@@EVALLOYD Ah, so you're one of those "everyone who disagrees with me is a troll" type of old people. Just a tip: don't write tedious racist screeds on youtube because absolutely no one cares. Watch a movie (possibly even one with people of colour in it!), call a loved one, eat a cake. The possibilities are endless.
@@EVALLOYD just say youre racist and go lol
Such a great interviewer. You really listen to answers and make the chat so natural, unprepared, ad-libbed.
The salute to mum at the end was utterly sweet.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 BBC
Probably he is not well known like the most handsome man on Earth.. but damn, He has something that makes him so extremely charming, handsome and sexy 😍
Ya charisma. Although he seems to be getting better looking with age. No longer the awkward scrawny geeky teenager!
Slumdog Millionaire will always be the one movie I will remember him from.
Dev Patel is brilliant!
And cute!
“Embrace the Gangly.” That sounds absolutely apt.
Lion is hands down one of my favorite movies. I sob in the best way everytime.
Oh my god i missed this man
I love the kind of questions that focus on how celebrities are coping with newly found fame its a good reminder of just how much they are like us just normal people
Dev is such a nice guy. Great job as usual Ali.
Good interview. Dev Patel deserves every bit and more. Such a talented and humble star. Class act.
Dev is such an amazing person!!! I love him!!!! ❤
Dev and Keanu are my all time favourite actors and humans 💟💟
What a moving soul he is.
proof how a good beard and hair can change the whole look
kudos to Mama Patel for bringing up this amazing man
My hat's off to Mr.Ali plumb ONCE AGAIN
Oh my Dev! One of my all-time favourites!
Great interview, as always. I remember Dev in another great ensemble TV show 'The Newsroom' - it was gone too soon, alas.
watching this after the success of monkey man. look at my man go!!!!!!! he's always been the best
what a sweetheart
I really enjoyed watching this movie on the big screen. It's based on Charles Dickens' semi-autobiographical story, not about the modern-day magician with the same name. The Personal History of David Copperfield was well portrayed by Dev Patel. Go see it!
Dev n Freida were the cutest couple everrr😍😍😍... I cant believe they broke up😭😭😭
Bbc radio is one of the best interview shows currently, Dev is a blessing ❤
Dev sua entrevista devia ter legenda em português, assistir toda entrevista porque sou sua fã. Melhor ator ❤

He's new james bond. I'm willing to bet, :)
When Kanye was good, also this guy is the best interviewer today.

Is the background music an aphex remix?
Nice!
I've met him!!!
You met Dev? Seriously? How was he? Does he think that I'm a freaking weirdo?
@@hannahduggan3599 very humble!! He was with this asshole manager, who tried to shu me away, but Dev Came forward and took a picture with me, my hands weren't long enough... Lion was so good.
