I actually think this drive ain't that bad. I found going east I-70 to St Louis was more boring. You get the most gorgeous view of the sky and you can see for days and I love that. Also seeing the tips of the mountains on the horizon and the slow buildup is epic as hell.

Yeah seeing the front range as you approach Denver is pretty epic

The speed limit on some Kansas highways is 85 mph, the highest in the nation. Now you know why. Everybody just wants to get through the state as quickly as possible lol.

Yeah it's hard not to drive too fast because you can see 50 miles in every direction. Windy as heck too.

1:27:12 - My favorite exit: Exit 313! Go Wildcats! ;)
1:38:35 - I love seeing that M-65 atomic cannon at the top of the hill just south of I-70 near Exit 301 at Fort Riley
2:35:14 - Exit 225 for Great Bend! I took this very exit for GB on K-156 (about an hour drive from this point). Admittedly haven't been back to GB in over 10 years.

I think the best thing about driving to Colorado is getting close enough to see the mountains appearing almost out of no where.

I have had exciting days in Kansas. You really don't want an exciting day since it usually involves bad weather or out of control prairie fire. Sometimes, boring is good. Try doing the drive in a late spring blizzard where the only way is to stay inside the tire tracks of the big rigs ahead of you and meandering to one side or the other lands you in wet snow 4 ft deep. Or try to go through a half mile or so of smoke so dense that you can't see the end of your hood clearly while cars and trucks behind you are moving along at speed. Keeps you on your toes.

Thats a good way of looking at it. Sounds like you've had some experiences on that drive

@@TheTravelDocketCTC Over a period of 70 years. As boring as it is I-70 is a lot quicker than 24 /40 highway but not as much fun. Listening to the family stories, only the crazy folks lasted long enough out here to settle Kansas. Something about the solitude and constant wind had a bad effect on most folks.

Only thing to do is count the number of Dairy Queens you pass.

When I drove from KC to Hot Springs last year, I ended up trying to count the number of Baptist Churches once I got south of Fort Smith on US-71 (and later US-270). I lost count after around 15! LOL
US-71 and US-270 is simply gorgeous! I had to deal with the lack of cell phone service through the Oachita Forest, but that was quite refreshing in a way. :)

Wheat fields in KS then just a slow climb over the boring plains of CO before finally hitting geographical paydirt after Denver.

This is great. For example, '10 hours of paint drying' is much more boring. And two hours longer...

Amazing. Kansas City is a much more blue collar city than I realized. The state of Kansas is so bland. I would go nuts if I had to live there.

It's the most boring drive anywhere because you go from a great city KANSAS CITY MISSOURI into the worthless state of kansass and all the way through boring kansass. Then you go into the Colorado flatlands and it all looks the same until you see Denver and the mountains. Bottom line, the state of kansass sucks.
