Well "Come Give Your Love To Me" is my favorite song from the album and it was her highest charting single on the pop chart at the time. Also this album was the highest selling album by a female black artist in 1982 and besides what people think, it was far from being a flop

I disagree that as Janet fans we ignore this album or dream street for that matter. She definitely took time to acknowledge her "day one" fans during the rockwitchu tour in 2008. True, those first two albums weren't her "best work" but it was the foundation that got us to the control album! She hasn't forgotten her beginnings and as fans neither should we. 💙🙏🏾

Because I Love both the original Janet Jackson album, and the Dream Street album. I view both of those albums the same way as we view Michael back when he was a little boy in his Jackson 5 days. But yes, I Love both of those albums equally as much, especially the song You Don't Stand Another Chance from the Dream street album.
That was Janet's first song that she did with Michael and all of her brothers singing back up as she lead sing. That was the scream of that day and time. I don't know why that song didn't blow up, because it should've. Seriously.
But as a Janet jackson fan, I don't agree with this guy at all.
I don't know what he talking about.
I especially love the album cover of both the original Janet Jackson album and the Dream Street album.
She is so beautiful and pretty on both of those album covers.

20 YO was fine. When she performs those songs in concert, it makes you appreciate the CD

Technically the original version of “Say You Do” is on Vinyl and cassette(5.5 minutes). The version on the CD is the “Special Extended Version.” The Single Version is a mixture of the album and Extended mix.

You'll Never Find, Young Love, and The Magic Is Working are my JAMS, but I definitely agree with the production aspect. The instruments really drown out her voice at times, but at this point, I can't hear anyone else singing them lol. Fun fact: Foster Sylvers from the family band The Sylvers (who many compare to Jackson 5) produced on a couple tracks, including "Don't Mess Up This Good Thing." Also, Howard Hewett, of Shalamar, apparently did some background vocals on the album too. (according to Wikipedia) This is a great album and I'm glad Janet has started performing "Young Love" on some of her recent tours.

Janet claims that album! In fact she performed songs from it during one of her tours. I’m not sure of the name of that tour but it was the one where she sported her Mohawk hairstyle.
I’m laughing watching your commentary because my favorite tunes from her debut album are: Young Love, Come Give Your Love To Me, and The Magic Is Working!😂

ok. firstly please no one come for me when i say this lol. I'm a huge Janet fan. growing up in that era the general music listening public was not really aware of Janet's first two albums. this is why you always hear or read about Control being the album that most people assumed was her debut. People only became aware of the first 2 after control blew up and then only diehard fans bothered to pick them up. the debut barely dented the billboard 200. But we now look back at the first two as where it all started. that's kind of the difference. if that makes sense. as for Janet she has always stated that control is where she took the reigns for herself and recorded what she wanted to sing and not what her father wanted. this is also why Janet fans mostly consider Control as her real start. even tho the first two have some good songs.

So true about her voice and the production not matching because she has a soft gentle voice and the production was way to overpowering. She sounds better on mellow calm flowy instrumentals

Janet is the ultimate nepo baby. Those 1st two albums were ignored because they were huge flops. Once she found a formula that worked (Jam&Lewis) she stuck with it and good for her...because someone else would not have gotten 3 chances at a debut. LOL! She was born in a showbizz family so she was very priviliged that way.

I thought I was the only who felt this way. I do love her, but I gotta keep it real. A&M was preparing Shanice Wilson's debut album at the same time A&M was preparing Janet's third album Control. Shanice, with the more powerful voice, was an unknown, and executive producer John McClain assigned then unknowns Bryan Loren and Nick Mundy (with zero successes up until this point) to produce her album. Janet, sister of the famous Jackson 5- everybody knew about her.The famous Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis wanted to work with her, and the rest is history. I always wonder if Janet's last name was Wilson, and Shanice was a Jackson, would we have ever heard of Janet. Not saying Janet doesn't have talent, but nepotism did help her

Ultimate when you had liza Minnelli, natalie Cole, you can argue Whitney Houston. They may have had help from their family but they had the talent to back it up. Janet could’ve been like her sister Latoya but because of her talent and drive she wasn’t!

Shanice was not a performer like that. Janet has worked really hard at her craft.

nepo babies in the music industry do not work the same way as they do in film and tv. Janet is an exception to the rule. Very rarely in music history do you have an immediate family member have the same kind of success as the first sibling I.e. Michael . the Jackson's are an anomaly. many siblings and family members have tired but mostly failed. its super hard to overshadow an already huge success in any family. So in fact for Janet the odds were super NOT in her favor. this is why the first two albums did not do so well. in my op. everyone assumed it was a vanity project (i.e. pretty much every sibling had an album out by that point, obs Janet was next.) and it wouldn't be successful as they rarely are, so no one spent money or promoted. also Janet had no say or input really into anything on the first two albums. most people at the time would see it as oh Michaels little sister is putting out an album how cute. so credit where credit is due it was Janet who broke with her father and went to write with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. they (all 3) are responsible for Control being the sucess it was. had nothing to do with being a nepo baby, she was already written off by then. Contol was Major. I mean the album cover alone, she didn't even put her face on it. its a big FU to everyone who doubted her, she took control and the rest is history.
