It's safe to say that we have many layers of packing to be done, but this week we got a bunch of that wrapped up and ready to go!
As of now, everything we own is either in our 10x15 storage unit (which is borderline empty now) or in our camper. We do have a pair of vehicles at the in-law's property but those are in the "to be determined" section of whether or not we will be keeping them!
We have purged so much stuff that we truly may not even fill two trucks for the drive to Alaska. That feels amazing! I honestly cannot think of one thing that I miss from all the purging. Even opening boxes 9 months after selling the house, I forgot about some things that we own still.
Narrowing down our owned items has been a huge process but a very necessary one as we prepare to drive 3,300 miles to our new home in Alaska. Now that only "must haves" are left, we can finally work on packing.
For the most part, we are working on things being put into weather-tight containers and organized to where they make sense. Since we will be staying at the in-law's cabins at first, they also need to be able to stay stored until we build or buy our own cabin.
We are also actively building the shed at the property in Southern Colorado so that we can hopefully get moved out of the storage unit by May 1st. Then we can be packed up and ready to go on May 19th!
Almost everything should make it on the drive but there are some taxidermy mounts that will probably stay here as we don't want to risk storing them underneath a cabin while we work on our own place. But, those things are staying more out of necessity than from lack of truck space.
Up next, we will be working on our bear defense revolvers, building the new storage shed, and then finally packing up to leave. We have a few weeks left before we disembark but we are very ready for it.
Stay tuned for the amazing Alaska videos we have planned! I even ordered my very first GoPro so that I can get the best possible footage of the adventures. From moose hunting to the salmon run to building a cabin, things are going to get very interesting for us!!
Thank you so much as always for watching!

And here I am after sixty years in Alaska moving the other direction! It's a daunting prospect!

It is so daunting, no matter the direction! I have new respect for anyone moving a big distance.

You could use the old military blankets to quilt a quilt blanket as a middle of blanket like batten.

I actually have some old Army wool blankets, they're the best!

We'll be in the Matsu Valley a few hours from Wasilla! Starting off remote but hoping to find some land on the road system for ourselves.

Are you going to build on your in-laws property?

It's been offered, but I don't think we will since they only have 5 acres. You never know, though! 🥰👀
