    I have been "into" knives for 60 + years and my original favorite handle material was Stag. Still is but almost no one handles their knives with it today. Sad as it is so gorgeous.

    My favorite handle material right now is carbon fiber! I love how it is a strong material but also very lightweight. I also really like the texture of cf handles and the more fancy versions of carbon fiber are also really cool!

      I like the look of carbon fibre too, got it on a Spyderco Tenacious part serrated, only thing is it’s not grippy as it’s very smooth, does look great though.

    Micarta is my favorite. Doesn't slip when it gets wet and forms a patina for lack of a better word. Also extremely durable. I've never seen it warp as you said.

    Initially I was drawn to micarta, but I'm definitely a G10 convert these days. I have a lovely Boker with black G10 and it looks so classy.

    I mainly carry fixed blade knives and have come to love a leather wrap. My newest biltong has a leather wrapped horn. This thing is heaven in the hand!!!
    My other fixed blades i have sanded down whatever handle on them and wrapped with a slightly padded leather.
    Done right with the right leather they are great in a bare hand as well as with gloves, wet or dry.

    Most definitely G10, because it tends to be able to take everything I put my knives through! Also, from what I’ve seen so far, it tends to age will, but as the old saying goes, only time will tell!😊🗡️

    Excellent video. We discuss steel options all the time but handles need some lovin' too. My favourite 'user knife' material is G10 because of generally lower price, range of colours, strength, wear resistance and milling/moulding options. Micarta is close behind - what it lacks in terms of resilience (compared to G10) it makes up for in textural appearance. However, when it comes to display knives and collectables, I just go with what looks best!! Sharp blades all.

    Just put together my first ESEE Izula. S35VN with the Double Red Micarta extended scales by The Knife Connection. In general I’m very big on G10 over essentially anything else. Spyderco’s peel ply G10 is course and grippy, great for work. WE/Civivi might actually have the nicest G10 in terms of quality and in hand feel.

    During your sale I bought the limited edition Mini Adamas. My first knife with Micarta. Your discussion has me concerned. Maybe 2 weeks before that I bought a Spyderco Autonomy with G10, my first G10. The knife I have carried for years is a Reeves Sabenza. The titanium has weathered nicely.

    My favorite handle material is carbon fiber. It’s beautiful to look at, light, strong, and you can do lots of different finishes and colors (fat carbon, forged carbon, dyed twill weave etc) followed closely by titanium, and then micarta. Specifically burlap micarta. Just something about burlap micarta I really enjoy.

    I've been only into knifes for a short period of time but my favorite it's probably iodized iron, since it's almost stainless and it's what I have on most of my knives. Thank you for the video :))

  • @JerryLoffelbein
    @JerryLoffelbein Год назад

    I definitely have my fair share of all of these materials. Bone is pretty great on oldschool pinned construction knives, but I find it's a little too easy to crack either at the factory or for the end user if screws are in the mix.
    The reinforced injection molded plastics can be great, but I do find them to be much better with steel liners, like the Spyderco Delica/Endura. There's been some popular models without those liners (Benchmade Bugout, Hogue Deka, ActaNonVerba A100, etc.) that don't feel nearly as structurally sound. While they're probably strong enough to withstand anything you'll throw at them, I prefer G10 for those linerless applications since they flex and warp much less.

    ****7:10**** - CF, which isn't difficult to scratch, will crack if merely scratched. If it cracks, it'll then break. At least when it's a section of stressed carbon fiber, under load.
    Thankfully, and in contrast to many of the myriad structural uses of CF in motor vehicles & bicycles, essentially all knives equipped or, more commonly, adorned with carbon fiber parts aren't using the material in such a way that cosmetic scratches would cause a self-destruct scenario.
