I'm one of the students with an sts subject and I'm so happy that the curriculum has included this on my course. Indeed an eye opener to us in the generation of technology, this is so underrated ._. ❤️
The kind of life of the village that was presented in the show was a conservative, productive and peaceful life. The village was really making use of their natural environment for the processes that serves a purpose for their typical way of living. I can see that the old man is conservative about nature or his environment because he wants to live the natural way of life, and that he doesn’t use electricity to conserve it and to live how man are used to, mentioning the purpose of night is to provide darkness and don’t need to be overpowered by brightness. He stated that, man have forgotten its stewardship responsibility because humans are not contented on what they already possess and craves for more for our own convenience, not minding it's effect on the environment where we depends.Relatively scientists that invents things for people for people’s convenience and happiness but later on making them unhappy. The village of the watermills set a point that separates and distinguish the huge difference on the influence of lifestyle to humans continuity of existence/ duration of their life on earth. There, the old man said that funeral on their village represents that people lived a long life and old aged death since they work hard to survive and be thanked. Barely young people died, which they mourned for such a loss. Comparably, the modern lifestyle does not ensure happiness to people because the advances in science and technology have helped us to exploit the environment for our benefit, but we have also introduced pollution and caused environmental damage. The impact of environmental problems on humans is significant, affecting all human activities, including health and socio-economic development. The nature of human are being dependent on their environment since they are part of nature, as being created by the supreme being. Humans need to interact with the environment to gain environmental resources that obtain our food, water, medicines, building materials, gases, minerals and many other things. People get used to convenience as the old man says in the video. Simplicity to be the most important, people nowadays throw away what is really valuable. see it, is of celebrating life and nature and it has a major criticism against science and technology as generative force of pollution and misery. Here's my own reflection for your enlightenment. Hope this helps! Kudos college students like me, Fighting!!💪 kakayanin whahahha
Here for STS but I feel great that I've got to discover this. Indeed, natural life is very beautiful and we only have to appreciate this little thing and little happiness around us in order to protect this natural world that needs us right now. We are living in a technological world wherein we forget the value of life, the people, and most especially the environment. We tend to neglect our duties. I hope, those who are watching this video, you must learn to appreciate little things because real happiness is not being comfortable with regets, but it's being at peace from what you see and expereince.
Contains all the opposites I can imagine. Earth/water man/nature young/old life/death traveler/stasis knowledge/ignorance - and the bridge that brings together and divides. Amazing.
been reading the comments and yeah same ahaha here for STS. anyway this film's worth reflecting, the old man has mentioned a very good point and hell yeah wanna visit that place someday. i suddenly feel sad living with all these advance technologies we have now, damn carries much pressure. wish i was born in a place like that or perhaps in a tribe ahahaha lol.
This short video clip shows us how we should be grateful and appreciative on everything we have right now. A lesson learned that even living in a simple life, environment life can still be meaningful and full of excitements. Through our high-technology, living right now, made for us very convenient.
Welcome to the Akira Kurosawa club! Fun fact: si Akira Kurosawa ang first Asian director na pinarangalan ng Oscar noong 1952. Kaya sa mga Pinoy dyan, panoorin niyo rin ibang mga movies ni Akira Kurosawa. Lahat ay masterpiece.
This is HARDLY a "clear copy" on a technical level. The whole video was out-of-focus, and the audio went mute at 11:30, just as the procession and its music got underway.
What does the funeral procession sing in Japanese? It sounds like yatze yatze yatze but that can't be it. Love to have the procession played when it's my time to go (not yet!).

If man is part of nature, then man's doings must also be part of nature.
I remember my childhood days with this movie
For me, the sound is off between 11 minutes, 30 seconds and 14 minutes, 18 seconds.

They are singing “yasse yasse yasse, soyasa”. In Japan we use these kind of shouts when we dance or carry the “Mikoshi” at festivals :)
