I've been chronicaly ill for years and just survived a dangerous cancer, My therapist suggested I get back into riding again for therapy. Met someone with 26 year old black quarter horse that they saved from an auction last day before going to slaughter. Previous owner said he was chronically lame. I have being doing his trims and hoof care and now he is sound! He's got perfect moves like this! We are going to show him! Even at your darkest hour, never give up! you never know what your future might hold!
LOVE this horse!! My sister, Janie Bigham, owned his sire "Ina Different League" for many years, he produced SO many good trail horses, good minds, athletic and solid movers. Congratulations to all involved with this horses tremendous World win!!
What an impressive run. Such a soft and responsive horse. As for the headset, definitely not improper in regards to the class, but not a headset I like to see constantly in my trail horses. Horses are designed to lift and move their neck with gait and speed changes (and the addition of a rider's weight) for balance and collection. Low head carriage, while giving a soft, relaxed appearance, transfers a lot of weight on the forehand.
I owned trained and showed Bevis aka Design by Leaguer, from a 2 yr old til he was 14. We earned nearly 2200 AQHA trail points and placed at every world show including 3rds in sr trail in 2000 and 2006, and won the nation 2 years in a row. Hes a pleasure to ride has a natural aptitude for trail and always goes the same...on a pitched rein and guided with leg pressure only. A GREAT horse and I'll always love him quirks and all. Congrats to his last owner and good luck to his new owners.
THAT was freaking complex and a FLAWLESS run! Great job!!....I do Ranch horse trail classes, which is like this, but with more..i guess..ranchier stuff!:P Lol my little cow pony is great at it..but I know he would get very overwhelmed with this class! Great horse you have there!!
My problem anymore is remember pattern! I bought a wild 6 month old mustang. He won ever trail class we entered!! Love my boy. He passed unexpectedly this year. I'm so broken 💔
I LOVED IT!!!!! This was so very helpful for me!! I am considering buying a donkey (heheh!!) and I wanted to do some western trail with him ;) LOL Funny right?! XD This video was so beautiful to watch and I loved the back-round music! The class looked so much and inspired me to really give Western Trail a go!^.^
From the way people talk in the lower comments..wow. All our horses are in pastures 24/7 and even my Reiner. But I can still take them out of the pasture and show them without any training. And listen to this. My moms horse, Gentlemen Only, is an invitation only guy. He was born with the way his legs are... Amazing! We just slowed him down and bang. There you have a congress finalist, novice championship finalist, AQHA world show third place in Ameteur pleasure and first in junior pleasure!!
I just started to train my horse to hold his head low like this horse and he is way better moving and more balanced with his head low. Before with his head higher I would have trouble helping him move correctly but with a low head he does it himself.
@arablvrXoXo i agree with you, all horses should be trained to carry their poll at the withers, but the reality is that ALL the horses showing in western sports these days carry their heads below the withers. And they are getting better, the horses noses are no long in the dirt and the gaits are becoming less artificial. it takes time to change an industry, and this is just the starting point.
I own a horse who has been a WP horse all his life. He lived in a pasture for 5 years and came out winning blues after less than a week of riding, even though he had not been touched for all that time. He will go out on the trail and run his heart out or navigate whatever you put in front of him. On top of that, I say his name and he will come running to me and follow me anywhere with ears pricked and eyes kind. Tell me again how abused our horses are?
With the "pleasure" horses such as these, there is no way that slow 4 beat would be way comfortable riding all day on the trail, and that belly trot, beautiful horse though, and well done ride! Horse was nice and responsive!
Really?... Who cares about this horse's headset?!?! It was so careful going over the poles & so relaxed going through all those incredibly hard obstacles. Great pattern! I hope one day I get a horse that's 1/100th this good!
Could someone explain to me why a western horse moves like this I am just curious I love horses and this seems to be a very healthy horse. Why do they carry their heads so low. It does not seem to hurt them. Dose reining hurt the horse with the side I have watched videos and the horses look healthy and happy.
This is actually a healthy position for a horse's head. It surely doesn't hurt them. Imagine that you're carrying weight on your back - do you lean forward or stand straight?
ikr. however i disagree bout the 4 beat cante. sum horses r forced into that and its cruel. but this horse is on a 3 beat, 1 of the reasons y i think this run isnt that bad
Yeah well it's no secret pleasure bred quarter horses tend to cripple up, that's why you gotta do your research on your breeding and know how to identify conformational defects before you buy. And also you should watch what you say, it's easy to generalize. Yes some show horses don't have happy lives but I've worked with several great world champ AQHA trainers who make sure to treat their horses with respect and ensure happy lives, all around trainers in particular.
Fact is in the rule book it states quite clearly that the ears should not be below the withers except when negotiating an obstacle, thank God the habit of using pleasure horse shape and movement is dying out in Western Diciplines.
LOL.. you have no clue.. Amateur is an age group in the AQHA for non professional equestrians.. Youth is 14-18, Amateur is 19-49 and Select is 50 and up..
and if u dont agree witht he frames.. do u like reining? they have headsets the same, even lower. Its also not natural for a dressage horse to have such a condensed high arched head, nor am i sure its natural to turn severely fast on their hocks to turn a damn barrel. Just deal with the way things are and move on. You really think you can turn China democratic, me neither, deal with it
you said the EXACT same thing on the Jr. Trail vid. If you dont like how these horses ride, why are you watching these vids? The judges know the rules and are VERY well respected, so im pretty sure they know what their dealing with. Yes the rules say that but WP is were they enforce it heavily. Your negativity does nothing and your judging is clearly in the wrong. So do us all a favor and stop watching these vids. I mean seriously? I dont like watcing vids i dont like! So dont waste our space
@ArablvrXoXo Unlike you, I have not only read the rulebook, but UNDERSTAND the rules. You should understand that in trail the horse is expected to carefully look at the obsticals. You're confusing the required head carriage for WP and HUS with the proper execution of a trail course. Since you are an Arab lover you're probably on the wrong channel on youtube. Ask your mom to help you get to the videos you really intended to watch.
I love you. You are on the same page as mine. Horses know how to carry there head but when you force them to carry there heads in not a natural way its painful. My horses is "bred' for this pleasure stuff but gave my horse bad hocks at the age of three. Abusive sport all shows are. Showing is for the persons benifit not the horses. I bet these horses can't handle a real trail or the riders can't handle a horse just sit there and let someone show there horses and say i won. yeah right.
Yeah these using there hind legs is BS. My horse is bred for this pleasure shit and guess what it gave him bad hocks cuz at the age of THREE. These poor horses are being abused by blind owners who don't know shit and only care about showing. Show horses lives are in a stall, training, and showing. Not a happy life with a owner that loves them no matter what and doesn't care if they get a blue ribbon and gives them a happy life with other horses and understands them. Showing is BS.

Thank you for saying this! It seems to be the "holy grail" of some Western Riders.
I owned trained and showed Bevis aka Design by Leaguer, from a 2 yr old til he was 14. Absolutely amazing! This trail run just blows my mind. Hats off to horse and rider!
Hes absolutely amazing!!! So gorgeous.. Ive never seen a class that advanced before!
I never get tired of watching this pattern! What an amazing ride!
Great job! I love trail, this horse is the ideal trail horse! Again, great job!
Incredible complex pattern, I love the relaxed, confident rider! Key to winning
This was "Design By Leaguer" out of a stallion I used to own called "Ina Different League". That was a spectacular run.
you are correct! western horses are suppose to have LOW heads and SLOW movements. Thank you for understanding this!
Beautiful run! Amazing horse, great training!
Amazing control and quiet intent. The low head carriage looks a bit strange but seems to come in handy when navigating obstacles.
Wow, that trail course rocks. Was a bit funny seeing the ring crew with one asleep near the end! Ahh, relaxing horse shows....
Wow... This was amazing. I do trail, I know how hard it is. Kudos to you!
And this is an amazing NATURAL mover who had a beautiful round
Omg this horse is amazing!! :)
My problem anymore is remember pattern! I bought a wild 6 month old mustang. He won ever trail class we entered!! Love my boy. He passed unexpectedly this year. I'm so broken 💔
I LOVE THIS SADDLE! :D
OMG

Love this horse!
Congratulations to Jason and "Bevis"!! WooHoo~what a run!!!
I just started to train my horse to hold his head low like this horse and he is way better moving and more balanced with his head low. Before with his head higher I would have trouble helping him move correctly but with a low head he does it himself.
nice to see black leather tack making a come back!
Beautiful horse
Just WOW !!!!!

The lady didn't even ride, she just owns the horse. She should be taking absolutely no credit
+nadanumber1 Are you serious? You think the horse was doing that all by himself?
But the lady didn't ride, someone else was riding.

@Arablvr - this is a trail class. What re you AQHA judging credentials?
Really?... Who cares about this horse's headset?!?!
It was so careful going over the poles & so relaxed going through all those incredibly hard obstacles. Great pattern! I hope one day I get a horse that's 1/100th this good!
perfect run. a lot to memorize! But congrats to you both!

@ArablvrXoXo if a horse doesnt want to do something or isnt comfortable doing it they wont and they will let you know they dont force anything
Brilliant!
I wonder how these horses would do out on a real trail.
They wouldn’t !!!!! Lol
Who is this horse please
My horse is bred for pleasure too.....and guess what.....GREAT LEGS!!!!!! And he has spent 90% of his life in a pasture....just sayin
ikr. however i disagree bout the 4 beat cante. sum horses r forced into that and its cruel. but this horse is on a 3 beat, 1 of the reasons y i think this run isnt that bad

15th year at the Congress. Riding or just owning the horses? Bringing home trophies?? Geese.
After 15 years she is still showing amateur!

The horse looks half dead, no natural gait, so sad.
I love you. You are on the same page as mine. Horses know how to carry there head but when you force them to carry there heads in not a natural way its painful.
