She's right *ALWAYS DO YOUR RESEARCH* I got my first axolotl when I was 13, almost 14 I think, and it was my first pet ever. I had no experience owning any type of animal and tho i did do some research, I didn't do enough and ended up having to cycle the tank with her in it. She ended up being fine, it's been like 5 years since then and she's still alive and healthy, but I remember crying at night cause all I could think about was how much pain she must be in cause of the ammonia in the water. She very easily could've died. So always always *always* do your research beforegetting one of these animals.
Pet shops, employees, and parents should bear most of the responsibility. You were just a kid. There were many adults between you and ownership of that animal who should have provided knowledgeable guidance or done the research. It should never be left to a child to know what they're getting into with pet ownership. I'm sorry you felt so guilty about it but it was NOT your fault. If you had trusted adults to do the research your axolotl would be dead so you are the last person who should feel bad!

one trick for cycling the filter for animals that, frankly, poop a lot, is using a carefully meassured dayly dose ot household ammonia, around 8-10mg/L, to trigger the initial nitratye spike. (jumpstarting the bacteria with some filter much from another aquarium is highly recommended too) PS: earth worms are super easy to breed, and will happily turn kitchen whaste into A+ grade plant fertiliser. a worm composter is worth a look!

I know this isn't related to axolotls, but I just want to say something... my grandma has cockatiels. HAD cockatiels. Now she just has one... for very, very sad reasons. They didn't die, at least I hope not. anyway, so, my grandma always kept her cockatiels in a very very small cage with not many toys, she never let them out, there was constant stress around them like dogs barking at them and her baby granddaughter yelling at them and hitting the cage... the cockatiels names were princess and jack. now, my grandma is VERY VERY VERY uneducated on cockatiels and all birds, and not to be rude, but she's literally stupid. princess was laying eggs like crazy... well, they thought it was princess, like, the girl one. it was jack, actually. they had named the boy princess and the girl jack. the sad thing is they separated the babies from the parents when they were VERY young to complete strangers... so, yeah, jack was laying many many eggs and they decided to separate jack from the princess. princess was still a very good dad and kept care of the babies before they were given away like an absolute chad. anyway, I was a little kid then, so I didn't know much about how birds looked as male vs female, so I saw jack's cage had an egg in it one day. I pointed it out and my grandma thought I was joking, but she then came over and jack had laid an egg. this was the only egg that we kept, we named the baby bird screech. she... was a pretty bad owner to screech. she fed him the right food but mainly ignored him, keeping him in a tiny tiny container with a blanket over him. he's pretty old now, but they gave his parents away. now he's alone in a cage, that same, small cage that is never cleaned, he gets his food refilled like, once a week, is never taken out of his cage and is covered by a blanket at night, and there's still the same stress... he's an older bird now, and I'm surprised he has lived so long as to be alive from when I was 7 to now im 11. I hope they start treating him better... but the reason I'm saying this now is because I NEED YOUR HELP!! if there's anything I can do to stop them from treating him like this, please tell me...
It being an aquatic creature, it would be hard to handle Its small, and you can't just take it out of your hand and pet it all you can do is feed it and talk to it outside the glass
As a proud owner of my 2 axolotls, (both male, 1 copper leuistic and 1 leuistic, Emett and Chronopi) I totally agree with this, axies are adorable, but if you can’t handle one, don’t get one. If you can, great! Just make sure they are living in the right conditions.
This was very helpful, I have been wanting to get a Axolotl for awhile now, even though this was very helpful I will be doing a lot more research about them. I do have one question, if they do get sick will they get better over time or would you have to take them to a vet and do sea creatures have a special type of vet that if they are sick they should go to? Anyway loved the video can’t wait for the next one. ❤️
I stumbled on your channel a week ago and I'm in love with it! All your videos are so instructive and lovely! I'd be really curious to see how you clean/maintain your big aquariums. I have a small one and I have difficulty keeping it clean and pretty for my fish. So I'd really love to learn about that as yours are so gorgeous and always so clean
my axolotl CANNOT catch food. i drop all of his food in one corner when he is there, and he has gotten used to catching some while i drop them and finding them when i walk away, and he has shocked me because he finds every piece.
i also never really knew when to stop feeding bloodworms (i got him quite small unfortunately from a pet store) but as soon as i started feeding meat based pellets he had a giant growth spurt and grew about 4 inches in 3 months its so cool to see them grow and get a personality
I’ve been asking for an axolotl for about 3 years now, thank you for this video! I even made a full slide show of 27 slides and showed my mother, I hope it worked as my birthday is coming up I’m turning 13 and I already cleared out a big area! :D
My school has a lot of animals that aren't kept in the best conditions. We recently got an axolotl and its kept in a 10 gallon tall and its one of the tanks with the doors in the front so only 3 inches or so of water for it to swim around. And that's not even the worst habitat there, I go to Butler Tech for the vet program
Okay so, I have a question. For a small bit of context My friend has these 2 fish I forgot the name but they are blue and shiny and have a flowy tail and fins. And they live in a traditional circle tank no filter, but they're some of the happiest fish I've ever seen. They will dance to the vibrations of the piano beside the tanks and have a place they sleep witch is the circle top of a broken glass bottle. And to clean the tanks, they put these large Snails from their Tanks that eat all the green stuff on the side. It works great, I just wanna know if its safe?
we got an axolotl not too long ago bc my brother had him but he wasn't taking care of him. he was never home so the axolotl didn't eat for a few weeks and when he did feed him he was only giving him the frozen blood worms (he's full-grown) the tank was never getting cleaned and his frills (I don't know what they're called) was always down and he had no way to tell the temp of the tank. so my sister stole him and gave him to us we cleaned his tank gave him a filter and some jars to hide in. we are now feeding him nightcrawlers and he seems much happier. he is only in a 15 gal tank but we are planning to upgrade him soon to something bigger once we know he will survive. we also named him wiggles.
Bilingual Alien Im sorry but just because someone enjoys something you think is “cringe” you dont have put them down about i am not replying if someone reply’s back.
i got my axolotl about 4 months now and i love him but luckily becuase i live in a colder part of the uk i dont have to worry about the temp as much i just need to get him a bigger tank
My axolotl is a big beasty (almost 12 inches long) and is a huge pig! He eats three worms every day or other day. I drop one on his face, and then let him find the other two. HE IS ACTUALLY QUITE GOOD AT FINDING HIS FOOD! He greets me at the side of the tank closest to my bed every morning and follows me (in the tank) until I feed him. He prefers red wigglers (compost worms) opposed to night crawlers.
I'm rlly interested in axolotls!! I'm looking into getting one and i have been doing a lot of research so i do know what they need thrive and all but i am keeping off of getting one just to makes sure that when i do they have a perfect home
Heating water is easy but man cooling is insanely hard. It's not even summer in aus and I'm already struggling. My shrimp need low 20's and it is killing me. Still dreaming of axolotls though.
I've had 2 gold fish for about two years and they were my first ever fish I've had ( and i still have them ), but I've been considering of getting an axolotl since I think I'm ready for the challenge.
I used to use real plants but my axolotls WOULDNT STOP DIGGING THEM OUT LOL so i had to get the fake silk ones but i made sure there durable cuz he likes ripping them off
There goes the idea of keeping one, don’t think the little dude would like a 40+ degree Celsius summer day, which where I live we get not too uncommonly

“I use sand and real plants”
Me, a fish person. OMG MAINTENANCE QUEEN
It being an aquatic creature, it would be hard to handle
Its small, and you can't just take it out of your hand and pet it
all you can do is feed it and talk to it outside the glass
Oh my god it’s been so long since I’ve watched you. I remember watching your MLP videos and loved them
As a proud owner of my 2 axolotls, (both male, 1 copper leuistic and 1 leuistic, Emett and Chronopi) I totally agree with this, axies are adorable, but if you can’t handle one, don’t get one.
I know this is an old comment, but did you find anything out about this? I’m in the process of researching axolotls, and had the same question
I stumbled on your channel a week ago and I'm in love with it! All your videos are so instructive and lovely! I'd be really curious to see how you clean/maintain your big aquariums. I have a small one and I have difficulty keeping it clean and pretty for my fish. So I'd really love to learn about that as yours are so gorgeous and always so clean
i’ve been wanting one for 4 years :( still haven’t gotten one...
get one in minecraft then
R I p ghost
Can’t go over 68 F
My room that’s always 60 F because heat is yucky
Heat is disgusting DISTRESSING AND QUITE RUDE
Yeah like the axolotls like low heat and light and I'm just sitting here I'm my cold, dark room like "yeah, ok"
my axolotl CANNOT catch food. i drop all of his food in one corner when he is there, and he has gotten used to catching some while i drop them and finding them when i walk away, and he has shocked me because he finds every piece.
i also never really knew when to stop feeding bloodworms (i got him quite small unfortunately from a pet store) but as soon as i started feeding meat based pellets he had a giant growth spurt and grew about 4 inches in 3 months its so cool to see them grow and get a personality
Is there any way you could offer to take it? I doubt it will survive that long in such little water. The ammonia must build up like crazy. :(
me: * sees title *
also me:
*yes.*
1 correction they can morph it's just very very rare
I love my pet axolotl, he is so cute!🥺
Soda: * Talking about axolotls *
The parrot on her shoulder: “m u m m y , w h y a r e y o u t a l k i n g s o m u c h ?”
Axolotl: “Mmm this looks like SPAM and I’m hungry” *BITE*
Girl, you are so beautiful!
Axolotls Pros and Cons. Pros: Everything Cons: None.
@Artists Lulu it’s a joke :)
Con: time, money
Cons: my mom's afraid of lizard like things and reptiles and axolotls are apparently lizard-y and I live at home
we got an axolotl not too long ago bc my brother had him but he wasn't taking care of him. he was never home so the axolotl didn't eat for a few weeks and when he did feed him he was only giving him the frozen blood worms (he's full-grown) the tank was never getting cleaned and his frills (I don't know what they're called) was always down and he had no way to tell the temp of the tank. so my sister stole him and gave him to us we cleaned his tank gave him a filter and some jars to hide in. we are now feeding him nightcrawlers and he seems much happier. he is only in a 15 gal tank but we are planning to upgrade him soon to something bigger once we know he will survive. we also named him wiggles.
Is there a pet I could get that would help me prepare for an axolotl? Only had cats and dogs and want an axolotl
Maybe a betta fish or some shrimp/ snails? Theyre pretty easy to care for and will help you learn how to do the water stuff
@@idontexist6885 yep
Make sure to research how to keep fish
it does not really get cold in summer for me but imma still get a chiller to make sure he will be safe
Me: never going to get an axolotl
Also me: “interesting, interesting...”
👁👄👁✍️
Bilingual Alien: haha I barely post anything though! How can you tell :)?
Bilingual Alien : Ah I see... ok then have a good rest of your day cause I don’t really care about your opinion :)
Bilingual Alien: good day Mr. Alien
Bilingual Alien Im sorry but just because someone enjoys something you think is “cringe” you dont have put them down about
i am not replying if someone reply’s back.
Omg this the same soda as the one that made those mlp videos omg I remember loving them-
Who named them axolotl I always mess up the spelling or pronunciation god I’m dumb😂
The Aztecs!
i got my axolotl about 4 months now and i love him but luckily becuase i live in a colder part of the uk i dont have to worry about the temp as much i just need to get him a bigger tank
Me who already has axolotls but clicks on this anyways: 👁👄👁 hi
Are they hard to take care of?
Thanks for the information! I don’t think an axolotl is for me, but it’s still really interesting.
This is the reason i luv this channel. I LOVE PETZZ
Thanks! My friend is thinking about getting a axoltol and I'm helping her research and get the supplies. This helped us a lot. :)
The relaxing animal crossing music in the backround is just beautiful👌
I'm rlly interested in axolotls!! I'm looking into getting one and i have been doing a lot of research so i do know what they need thrive and all but i am keeping off of getting one just to makes sure that when i do they have a perfect home
A video about axolotls and a bird is on your shoulder.... that’s gonna be me in the future and I’m getting a axolotl and my mom is getting a bird
As an Axolotl Myself I agree
We are the best of pets!!!
I used to use real plants but my axolotls WOULDNT STOP DIGGING THEM OUT LOL
so i had to get the fake silk ones but i made sure there durable cuz he likes ripping them off
Bamboo is really good too use in a fish tank my axolotl loves it
What it sounds like is that cycling a tank is pretending u have a pet before u have one? hehe, i doubt thats accurate tho
There goes the idea of keeping one, don’t think the little dude would like a 40+ degree Celsius summer day, which where I live we get not too uncommonly
The adorable bird on her shoulder 🥺🥺🥺
I've actually wanted to get about 1-2 axolotls as pets for a few months now and I come accross this video.
I'd just like to say thank you because nobody really has axolotls round where I live and this video was a really big help.
