It's not even that they find you. in SotF they literally spawn near you. In The Forest they had fixed spawn locations, and would then patrol around set routes. So they basically went from realistic enemy patrols around the island to "eh, just spawn some mutants around the player."

yeah the atmosphere of your first playthrough in the forest was horrifying for most people lol. But it was always a great experience, wish that I could forget everything and play the forest again for the first time.
it's mental. I played the forest on PS4 3 years back? Me and some friends had a save we spent days building on. We had a gigantic walled base built around our smaller orignal base, a fully fortified beach, a zipline to an emergency base, treehouses, farms etc. We had all the secret buildings up including the giant glider tower too. With the church blueprint we thought it would be funny to build them in totally oposite locations, so we have a snow church built on a little lake, a water church built in the sea somehow, and plans for a mountain church. My friend also built a giant hotel deep in the forest. In the end we had exausted so many possibilites we decided to build a giant warehouse to store every log in the game. I went to load it up one day around that time and noticed the loading time was longer than usual. When it finally loaded, I am thrown into a 1fps slideshow with intense motion blur rendering it completely unplayable. I frantically reloaded - nothing, restarted the game - nothing...just like that 100 hours gone. With that, our little group gave up on the game. I remember it being capped to 4 players on PS4 but in total I think about 6 of us visited overall. Of the 5, I only speak to one of them now and regretably left on bad terms with 2. It lived in my mind as a little snapshot of such a relaxed and care-free time I'd never see again. Anyway I thought I'd boot it up again. See if I could maybe salvage some screenshots as it had randomly popped into my mind one day. I hadn't even touched my PS4 since so had to get ps+ again just to gain access. I load the game and boom...I'm in...no lag, no stutters - a perfectly playable framerate. I had a look around, explored old memories. It was this weird mix between heartwarming nostalgia and a cold eeriness as it almost felt wrong to be back, like I was intruding. It's only been 3 years. I can't imagine the strange sensation we'll have exploring decade old worlds provided we still have a way to access them. Anyway... back to reality XD
Ah, Season 5. I've watched that playlist at least 20 times, just good background noise to sleep to. Instantly recognized it when the video started, such an iconic build-

I went to my old savefile last month too. My save is basically an empire. 5 big bases on the four ends of the map and one in the center. Every pond with fish has a treehouse with a dry rack and water collector and a bonfire and bed. Everything connected by rock roads and lights to guidepost at night. Without the map i can tell exactly where i am and get to food or safety. 3 trap filled forests to play with the enemy and huge graveyards replete with effigies all over the place. The fps cant handle that beastly empire ive created in 500 hours of gameplay.
Best part was having non-square bases. Trying to do any triangles or octagonal or hexagonal or whatever in sotf takes far too long to be worth it. Would love even just the platform blueprint then shoving walls manually on top
Just to see a new video of The Forest from you give me goosebumps. And the memories about the hours and hours of beeing in the forest, alone or with my friends, priceless.

Most will probably disagree with me but... I prefer the old inventory over the new one. The animations are cool and all but when I am trying to do things in a hurry or make bombs in a hurry I just like the old inventory where everything was instant, also not having to pan around is so nice.
Trust me you're not the only one. The new inventory is cool but after awhile it does get annoying. Wish I could zoom out at least or something. The panning around is very annoying.

I rediscovered your channel today, after 4 or so years. This video brings back memories to when I used to watch you, and when I used to play the forest. Which I haven't played in years. I miss this game and I'm gonna revisit it later this week.
I think one thing I really miss about The Forest is the fact that it was more about the survival craft element. I remember starting the game and crafting clubs, arrows, stick bags (etc). In Sons of the Forest, the crafting system becomes unnecessary as little as an hour into gameplay bc you can just find everything you need. I'm not a big fan of the gun focused gameplay either. I think it really takes away from the whole experience.
Love your videos man! Glad you went back to the forest as well! Haven’t had a chance to play sons of the forest yet but because of your videos I’m prepared for both of them! Thanks Farket, keep up the good work!

Nice walk down memory lane. I still love this game, havent played in a while but when I do get back to this series I am thinking on starting this one again. Just miss it. Sons of the forest is cool, I love the back story and Virginia is cool and sad at the same time and Kelvin LOL. But this version IMO has so much charm, maybe because it was the first. Kind of like going home after being away for years where in real life you cant do that, its a time and space if you know how i mean.
I did this yesterday but with the forest vr and it was just as fun as it was back when it came out, I even forgot about a lot of stuff so it was like playing a game for the first time again, I started noticing more mechanics and how good they were and how much I loved the building with custom blueprints how scary the caves can be at first, I love it, sons of the forest is great but they need to add the same type of building you used to do custom platforms and stuff to make building fun and not too complicated to do big structures, I banged out a house on a raised structure in like 10 minutes, I wish sons of the forest was that easy to work with
I just started playing the forest about a month ago and I watch your videos to learn a bunch of new things and it’s such a fun game. Thank you for making all the videos to help people. You are the best farket! And are they ever gonna bring sons of the forest to console?
My gf and I LOVED The Forest, we played a ton early in our relationship and my desktop background is a screen of us parodying the famous titanic scene at the front of the ship. Sons was quite a let down for us (mostly her, she was sooooo mad 😂). I hope they do try and rectify some of the worse off changes soon. Was excited to play around with building in the new system.
The only time I actually beat the forest was with my gf , was probably mine and definitely her's best gaming experience , loved that game , broke up with me recently after 5 years had to move back in with parents temporarily , finding it really hard to enjoy SOTF because it just reminds me of the great times we had playing the game , booting up the forest now and stumbling onto the same spot we built our first and only base felt really sad.
I revisited The Forest just yesterday! A friend of mine and I threw down a cabin blueprint and built it just to reminisce about the old way of building. 😁
Its been so long since I played The Forest that this was a great video to watch. Thanks! One of the biggest things I miss is so miniscule, but its the inventory. Sons inventory is so slow to go through trying to find what you want. The Forest just lays it all out in a mess, but at least you don't have to pan the camera slow as a slug. Also, the building guide. It was just so much better. I wish they'd fix it to be more user friendly. Having to switch modes is very weird.
First game was much scarier. Going into a huge cave alone with just a lighter or torch my heart would beat so fast. In sons of the forest, I have no fear inside the caves. I think the main problem (for me) in the second game is the caves. They are much smaller and they are not interconnected like in the first one. I would get lost for days inside the caves. Or try to go somewhere, exit at the wrong place and have to go back. You can't really get lost in sons of the forest. Although the new enemies are amazing and did scare me when I first encountered them, after a while the sense of danger is lost
@@whitelightest9933 To me the cannibals just feel like people. It's harder for me to try to kill them because they're like whimpering dogs. In sons I feel like the cannibals are too human, and that kind of takes the creepiness away. It would definitely be better if they were faster as creepies are rather slow too and it'd be some nice contrast, especially if it felt like you couldn't run away from the cannibals.
i recently toured a few of my old bases on subnautica 1 and 2, the forest, green hell, and stranded deep its always fun for a few minutes to go back and look at all the work i put in and you definitely put some time in here lol
I wish I could delete it from my brain and play it again without to know nothing, like I was the first time when the game came out.when I whent in my first cave I was like 😮..... Nice memories, I was watching ur videos one by one until I watch the all I think. 😁 u teach me a lot for this game m8,thank u really!!!
Your the reason I got back into gaming and play both and only these games lol. Ya can't get any better it's the only games that does it the right way. Been watching ur vids for a couple years now keep er up bud. Ontario Canada.
The forest was a great game. I like that Sons of the forest is trying new things but sometimes like with berries I cant help wonder what they were thinking, At least allow players to eat multiple berries + skip animation or something along those lines.
The enemies in the forest move, sound and ‘come across’ much less human/civilised which is definitely a plus for the horror element of the game. The red guy in sotf for example just looks like a regular beer gut guy painted red lol. The cannibal camps in both games are good as well but the forest defiantly has greater uniqueness and size with those tall triangle buildings for eg.
Could this be the final goodbye to The Forest games from Farket? What a beautiful run it has been, but I surely hope that Farket will find a way to a happier place again. The struggle has been so eminent in the last year or so to find the passion and motivation for a game series he has breathed life into for so long. Thank you, Farket, no matter where you're at❤
This video gave me heavy nostalgia of the countless hours I spent on this game. I'm going to have to revist it for sure! I feel like sons of the forest is missing alot of the elements that made the forest so amazing, sure its got its moments too. But it doesnt even compare in so many ways to the first game. I loved the building in the first game its pretty much all i did, It was more free form and creative and alot less limited. Sons of the forest takes everything to a more realistic level, which again is nice and all but not why i played the forest. Thanks for the amazing video as always and making some really good points about the games.
Watching it after 1.0 release is really weird. To me anyways. Because so many good things are left out of sons. It'd be fantastic if they'd add that stuff to sons to. Or give options to enable stuff manually like the custom construction or the no animations. Wow
A lot of valid points. Hopefully Endnight does watch your videos and reads the RUclips comments. So much basic stuff was left out of alpha, and is still not there. Combat and mob spawn is definitely borked compared to The Forest.
Viewing this stirs up nostalgia. Although I'm fond of Sons of the Forest, it doesn't quite recapture the thrill of the unknown I felt when I first launched The Forest.
oh daaaaayyyngg!!! The flashbacks im getting!! Endnight should definatly bring back a bunch of buildables from the forest to SotF. Like weapon holders and such. Been missing them from launch already. Even though there is something simular(ish) i miss the deadfall- , noose- and happy birthday traps. Spear cannon is kinda useless. muddys crawl to low and canniball just barge right through em without setting em off half the time..not to mention the thing misses 99% of time. Found the other day you can still make floating structures using the roof method and like you mentioned in another vid stonewall textures/sections look TOO repeated when building long/high walls..but wont have that to much when you every now and then start a section from oppisite side like left to right , right left.. AND/OR dont use pillars every section..just the "filler" .(thought id mention cuz that bugged me too) Did you see that canniball with the deformed face already? kinda looks like the elephantman LOL. - edit : never saw it mentioned anywhere like charging and fire cannibal -. anyways keep up the great vids.greetings from netherlands
13:46 for the wall system They should bring back the custom walls but you'd have to manually make the spikes, this is were Kelvin comes in as they can give him the ability to do it for you just not as time efficienly.
i love sotf but this brings back memories you cant forget that you said it yourself endnight is still developing sons of the forest so i like to give them a chance until full release
Did you know in the cave, approx 6mins in, with the ropes, flares, dynamite and cloth… if you use dynamite to open the crates you get double of everything 😊 As a ps4 player still playing this game, this was an awesome video to look back on what you did 👍
I really hate the animations in Forest 2, too. Every time an animation starts playing i just see a bluescreen in my head and a timer until i can retake controll over my char. and worse than only that feeling of loosing control, really bad things happen like 3 out of 15 animations. Also i click between 1-5 times to just pick-up a stick, a rock, or a log or any pick-up item tbh. often i see myself turn back with only one log or stumbleing in the dark 20 seconds to pick up some crossbow bolt between leaves. Forest 1 was point on with icons and my e interaction with it to pick the item up. Also the air-control of the character in forest 1 was so good. with agiity-stat climbing you always had a feeling of your character and its abilities from running jumping or just being able to predict an outcome of any encounter, unlike in forest2. I like both games and sons of the forest really did what i hoped for. it gave me a few days of fiever gaming 14 hours a day for like 5 days in a row. The exact feeling i had with Forest back in the days 0001 alpha until full release. by the way. you do really underrestimate the Katana in Forest 1. You not only can put on poison in form of berries, berries, or mushrooms quick tbh. the animation is done while you can move around. inventory is quick open and closed, without moving parts. you can have it on 1 to always get it out in a split second --> but what makes it so powerful is that you can hit-stun-lock every mutant and cannibal with continues attacks. You have to believe in that fact even when you reach 0 on Stamina bar. Your attackrate will go down but you can keep hitting, slicing sideways until the enemy is dead. stamina or no stamina it makes no difference you attack until the enemy is dead. imo you should give it another try. when you start a fresh game you just walk like 5:36 minutes to the Katana cave with NO ENEMIES. and can start slicing. also the best for leaves and killing deer ist just laughable easy too. - For the Mutants or just raw dmg also without to have stamina i use speer + speerbag on my 2 hotbar. another thing sons of the forest ruined big times: speer throwing was perfect in forest 1. it felt great, just like using a bow in Valheim. you really get the hang out of aiming and hiiting actually every target. also the spears in forest 1 damn you could throw them beyond your own render distance and still hitting accurate. In Sons of the forest your character can in no situation throw a spear more than 15m. pathetic. And really try it yourself. turn the white aiming line off and try to hit an enemy. you just cant :D - But really the dmg from a complete upgraded plane-axe in Forest1 with only glass shards oneshots cannibals and ,utants in 1 hit even at 20 starting strengh. plane axe is fast enough by default but i dont like the short range is has in comparison to the Katana. cheers
watching this video and remembering my forest playthrough reminds me why sons of the forest is in early access, its missing so many things, especially the building seems to have taken a step back in terms of freedom, can't wait for the game to get out of early access, me and my friends have already played quite a lot, we're just waiting on full release or maybe more features and polishing to play again.
what i'd LOVE is for the hides to become useful again, i MISS the old bags you could make and it would be amazing if you could carry 2+ cooking pots with one and for all the buildables to be ported to sotf

I did this yesterday but with the forest vr and it was just as fun as it was back when it came out, I even forgot about a lot of stuff so it was like playing a game for the first time again, I started noticing more mechanics and how good they were and how much I loved the building with custom blueprints how scary the caves can be at first, I love it, sons of the forest is great but they need to add the same type of building you used to do custom platforms and stuff to make building fun and not too complicated to do big structures, I banged out a house on a raised structure in like 10 minutes, I wish sons of the forest was that easy to work with
3:33 this base is found under playlists. Season 5
I just started playing the forest about a month ago and I watch your videos to learn a bunch of new things and it’s such a fun game. Thank you for making all the videos to help people. You are the best farket! And are they ever gonna bring sons of the forest to console?
I hope they bring it this year
My gf and I LOVED The Forest, we played a ton early in our relationship and my desktop background is a screen of us parodying the famous titanic scene at the front of the ship.
Sons was quite a let down for us (mostly her, she was sooooo mad 😂). I hope they do try and rectify some of the worse off changes soon. Was excited to play around with building in the new system.
Don't count on it I'd say. They plan on going out of EA in like 2 months now...
I love the original game. The new one is neat, but nothing beats the original. Such a fantastic story, well balanced, great gameplay
15:04 I hope endnight also makes the cannibals fast, they run in slowmotion in Sons
The player moves a lot slower too. I like the new AI it feels more immersive almost like they’re plotting imo
@@whitelightest9933 To me the cannibals just feel like people. It's harder for me to try to kill them because they're like whimpering dogs. In sons I feel like the cannibals are too human, and that kind of takes the creepiness away. It would definitely be better if they were faster as creepies are rather slow too and it'd be some nice contrast, especially if it felt like you couldn't run away from the cannibals.
hey farket hope youre well, been checking every day for your video on the newest update. take care of yourself king!
i recently toured a few of my old bases on subnautica 1 and 2, the forest, green hell, and stranded deep its always fun for a few minutes to go back and look at all the work i put in and you definitely put some time in here lol
Watched a heap of the original builds. Thanks for revisiting them. I
Nice seeing your gameplay from time to time.
The instant berry eating and the classic ocean wave look was SO NICE, honestly wish they'd bring those things back.
Hope all is well Farket, looking forward to your next video whenever you're ready! 💯💜
Thanks for the flashback to season 5, hope your feeling better :D
Your the reason I got back into gaming and play both and only these games lol. Ya can't get any better it's the only games that does it the right way. Been watching ur vids for a couple years now keep er up bud. Ontario Canada.
Good to see the comparisons. Good on you
The forest was a great game. I like that Sons of the forest is trying new things but sometimes like with berries I cant help wonder what they were thinking, At least allow players to eat multiple berries + skip animation or something along those lines.
I miss the forest so much. This was a great video.
I mean, we the players can't drink booze anymore, so someone has to.
it would be kinda cool to see the old cannibals in SOTF afteer you complete it kinda like whhat they did with armsy and virginia.
I agree they should bring back the blueprints and mainly the defense wall
If they bring back Athlethicism I will celebrate
Could this be the final goodbye to The Forest games from Farket? What a beautiful run it has been, but I surely hope that Farket will find a way to a happier place again. The struggle has been so eminent in the last year or so to find the passion and motivation for a game series he has breathed life into for so long. Thank you, Farket, no matter where you're at❤
Man the houseboat.. such nostalgia!
Hope you’re feeling better brotha!
Dang, this is nostalgic. I remember when you created a lot of this world.
its a good day, farket uploaded! :)
You truly where the King Of The Forest
when are you going to make a video about update 15 of son of the forest
Watching it after 1.0 release is really weird. To me anyways. Because so many good things are left out of sons. It'd be fantastic if they'd add that stuff to sons to. Or give options to enable stuff manually like the custom construction or the no animations. Wow
I truly love The Forest way more than Sons, there's something so special about it.
- edit : never saw it mentioned anywhere like charging and fire cannibal -. anyways keep up the great vids.greetings from netherlands
at 9:25 you can actually do this with a rope bridge in SOTF, works basically the same
13:46 for the wall system They should bring back the custom walls but you'd have to manually make the spikes, this is were Kelvin comes in as they can give him the ability to do it for you just not as time efficienly.
i love sotf but this brings back memories you cant forget that you said it yourself endnight is still developing sons of the forest so i like to give them a chance until full release
Did you know in the cave, approx 6mins in, with the ropes, flares, dynamite and cloth… if you use dynamite to open the crates you get double of everything 😊
As a ps4 player still playing this game, this was an awesome video to look back on what you did 👍
I really hate the animations in Forest 2, too.
You not only can put on poison in form of berries, berries, or mushrooms quick tbh. the animation is done while you can move around.
inventory is quick open and closed, without moving parts. you can have it on 1 to always get it out in a split second
--> but what makes it so powerful is that you can hit-stun-lock every mutant and cannibal with continues attacks. You have to believe in that fact even when you reach 0 on Stamina bar. Your attackrate will go down but you can keep hitting, slicing sideways until the enemy is dead. stamina or no stamina it makes no difference you attack until the enemy is dead. imo you should give it another try.
when you start a fresh game you just walk like 5:36 minutes to the Katana cave with NO ENEMIES. and can start slicing. also the best for leaves
and killing deer ist just laughable easy too.
-
For the Mutants or just raw dmg also without to have stamina i use speer + speerbag on my 2 hotbar.
another thing sons of the forest ruined big times: speer throwing was perfect in forest 1. it felt great, just like using a bow in Valheim. you really get the hang out of aiming and hiiting actually every target. also the spears in forest 1 damn you could throw them beyond your own render distance and still hitting accurate.
In Sons of the forest your character can in no situation throw a spear more than 15m. pathetic. And really try it yourself. turn the white aiming line off and try to hit an enemy. you just cant :D
-
But really the dmg from a complete upgraded plane-axe in Forest1 with only glass shards oneshots cannibals and ,utants in 1 hit even at 20 starting strengh. plane axe is fast enough by default but i dont like the short range is has in comparison to the Katana.
cheers
Hope all is well bro
the forest will always be in my heart, good times
Came to this video just to type that they actually make your dreams come true on the latest update.
Awesome builds 😲👌🏻
watching this video and remembering my forest playthrough reminds me why sons of the forest is in early access, its missing so many things, especially the building seems to have taken a step back in terms of freedom, can't wait for the game to get out of early access, me and my friends have already played quite a lot, we're just waiting on full release or maybe more features and polishing to play again.
You can apparently turn off the build animation in SoTF as well. Not sure how but Ive seen guys do it.
It comes with the mod manager. It's called redloader.
eyyyy, looking forward to this
what i'd LOVE is for the hides to become useful again, i MISS the old bags you could make and it would be amazing if you could carry 2+ cooking pots with one
and for all the buildables to be ported to sotf
I really wish I could like the new version even 1/4 as much as I loved this game.
That would be cool to see crocs in the game. In winter time, you could see there nose poke out if they were in frozen water
I still play this love it 👍😊
I wish I could go back and play the forest for the first time again the first time playing it it was a nightmare but it was so fun
how you build it .. when i start to build something these mutants come from nowhere and destroy it.. plz help
Hello it sounds like your cold is going away that"s good ! I like the crane idea I used to use them instead of stairs inside my houses. I was wondering would you invite Lizz PLays or Panda or Andrew Lane or the other one that helped you build the bridge digget?? to play multi player in sons of the forest ?
I still hop back in every now and again. Much as the game wasn't "finished", it was a lot of fun.
I feel old,
Farket checks The forest and is shocked by a few things because it was so long time ago...
I recently just found the forest and have been ADDICTED. I don’t have PC so I don’t have sons of the forest. It’s sounding like it’s not that good so I’m not missing out
I honestly can’t wait to see how Sotf turns out and how it compares to the original
the main difference for me i think is that the forest just felt more goofy. Turtle shell sled...
Honestly I miss the boats in sons of the Forrest I havent played it since I was waiting for them to add them im sooo hoping they add boats to it great video dude
