Hey amigo, great video, thank you. What is the your success criteria going into a music marketing campaign? Break even within one year from streaming royalties? Massive brand exposure and break even / profit from shows and merch? Improv and see what sticks? Awesome content, I’ve been watching a lot of videos videos the past 24 hours. I am coming from Brandman Sean’s network. Have a nice day

Hey Alejandro, great to hear from you in the comments and keep watching 🙌 You ask a pretty tough question, because everybody has a different definition of success. My best answer: I like to go where an artist has never been before. Reach new heights. If they've peaked at #8 on a chart, I aim for #1, and if I get #4, it's at least higher than what they have previously done. If they've never worked with an apparel company (or brand), I want to make that happen. If they've never had a song pass 15,000 streams, I'm aiming to crush that. Just constantly pushing forward and growing the fanbase. A year or two is asking too much in the music industry, or any industry. I wouldn't turn away a quick success, but I'll take slow and steady every time. Focus on building a lifelong fanbase and how you can get them to support you with money over the long term.

Spotify created Marquee as a way to re-engage people that have already shown interest. They have their regular Spotify Ad Studio for those that wish to reach people that have never heard your music. I have positive news to report on Ad Studio. They used to give very little post-campaign analysis on Ad Studio campaigns, but now they have basically given you the same stats that you get in Marquee campaigns.

I am wondering if you have seen any positive results using the regular Spotify Ads platform (not Marquee) since it lets you target new listeners by genre or other artists? Wondering what you thoughts are on using Spotify ads platform ads versus Marquee.

Good question Denise. I like the Spotify Ads platform now. They've made some improvements in the past year or two, and they give artists more helpful post campaign analytics. "positive results" is relative, but yes mostly positive. And if you don't like the way a campaign is going you can turn it off. Try again. My biggest complaint about the Ads platform, is that it doesn't distinguish between "advertiser" and "creator" or "rightsholder" or "stakeholder". Without hesitation, Spotify should offer the creators and musicians who make their platform go, a better cost per result, cost per 1,000 impressions, better than advertisers who are not creators on the platform. On the one hand it's great that Spotify makes these tools available (where other music services don't), but on the other hand the royalty artists are paid in relation to the royalty they pay out is too low. More should be done to get a fair wage for artists, songwriters, creators.

@@BandBuilderAcademy Thank you. That is super helpful. Wondering about using the audio only format versus the video format ads. I think I will go ahead and test it using an audio only ad. If that goes well then I will test the video ad. Since right now Spotify is still primarily a listening platform, I am curious how well the video ads will convert and thus I am skeptical that the video ads are worth the higher auction cost (roughly double). but we will see. Thanks again
