I like different brands for varying reasons.
My BBW candles don't always dud out but when they do, I crock them as well. Their strength still reigns supreme on throw, so I continue to buy.
Homeworx candles tickle my scent fancy more but are pricier & soot like crazy. Especially Sugared Beignets & Woodland Trail. I mean, soot monsters! My bedroom wall corner tells it all. I just keep the wicks trimmed super low & no burning for more than 2 hours.
I appreciate DW Home's accessibility, low price point, and cute packaging. But they don't always burn well and throw is usually low to medium. However, it's one of few big box brands that I can burn for 5 hours or so with no sooting or high flames! Unlike HW and BBW.
Eh...drawbacks to all, as such is life!
I 100% agree with you, Melanie! I used to hoard BBW products (body care and candles). Then the body care started going bad (turning yellow and chunky) before I could use it, and the candles either had puny wicks, or a bad chemical smell. I was hoping consumers would ban Candle Day this year due to the rise in price and poor performance, but that wasn't the case. It is an addiction for people, and BBW knows it. I've actually been buying Walmart candles and am quite pleased with their cheap price and good throw. I don't care about fancy labels, I just want to be able to smell the damn thing!
I think a lot of people purchased on candle day for other people for Christmas gifts. I too think they have gone way down hill and was not interested in candle say whatsoever. Their candles are so weak now compared to how they used to be in the past and I have been a BBW fan from day one so I have seen their candles go from the best to pretty close to generic.
Happy Holidays Melanie! I rarely have issues with my B&BW candles performing and sooting. My bedroom is smaller than most admittedly but even so very few candles are lacking in the throw department. Not crazy about the price increase but it is... what it is. Yankee Candle wax melts are far better than their candles for me, so I will always purchase those. I have tried Homeworx and for the price I was not impressed whatsoever. I wish I would have tried them when they first debut and were the buzz in the candle community. Perhaps I will give them one more try before writing them off. I have brought vendor wax from Destination Wax and like her product very much. The Walmart wax and candles are mostly misses, so I don't buy them much anymore. I would love to try Kringle/Colonial candles but the return policy makes me hesitant to jump in and try them. At some point I will breakdown and buy the higher end candles (Nest, Diptyque) but for the price point w/coupons, the exchange policy and the Spring/Summer fragrances Bath and Body Works is still worth it for me.
Thanks for sharing! I bought a lot at candle day, but I’ll be returning probably all of my winter candles because they aren’t performing. I melt my candles in a crock because I can’t burn them in my apartment. My 2018s would last me about 7-9 days, my 2019s would last me about 5, but my winter 2019s are only lasting me about 36 hours. It’s definitely not what I paid for, even at a discounted price.
I only buy bbw candles when I have a coupon and can get them cheaper. I mainly use scentsy and other wax melts around my house. Loved Berry waffle cone as well! That rubbed glass was so pretty :)
I haven't really had any problems with B&BW candles. The throw and strength is perfect for me, but my home is not a large as yours. The company I have had a problem with is Homeworx. I'm basically done with Homeworx. I bought the TSV in the holiday collection on QVC and the strength and throw is not there and they are sooting like crazy at the halfway point. And the candles don't fit in a crock or on a warmer so I can't even use them now. I'm not taking the time to chop them up to melt. Homeworx just sucks in my opinion. Which is awful because Harry Slatkin comes up with some amazing scents. So strange that you have had such good experiences with Homeworx. I gave Yankee Candles another try this year and was greatly disappointed. So weak in the strength and throw department but they do burn perfectly. I'm tempted to try Kringle and Colonial Candle again.

I work across a Bath and Body Works and the line was never ending all day! I got a bunch of candles on candle day for gifts. I only got 3 for me!
Hi Melanie Thanks for sharing your haul and thoughts and B&BW. I still purchase their candles when I find them on sale...mostly fall & winter scents, though. I'm not a fan of the fruity/floral scents they have. I agree that they aren't as strongly scented as they used to be but they are adequate for my space most of the time. My biggest beef with them right now is with shipping. I'm usually not able to shop in store so I have to order from their website. The candles used to come individually encased in a cardboard sleeve that protected them very well. But in the last few months they changed their packaging to an eggcrate type packaging. Every order I've placed has had at least one broken candle. My last order (candle day) arrived with two broken candles -- one completely shattered. B&BW has been good about replacing/refunding for the damage but it is still a gigantic hassle, not to mention dangerous with all the broken glass! I also hate that you can't stack coupons online the way you can in store. I will likely cut back on my candle orders with them and try to find a different brand in the new year. Happy holidays!! Lisa
I saw pics from people with long lines and for me it didn’t justify the savings. I figured I could get what I wanted on sale and with the coupon after. The amount of time bumping into people and standing in line is not enough of a savings for me either.
The purple ribbed glass is berry waffle cone !!! I was trying to tell you wild you were talking but then duh I was like she can’t hear me lmao !!!!! How many candles do you think you have in your collection? Here’s an idea why don’t you just take pics of your collection just the way it is and then just show screen shots on another video that would be much easier just a thought
Agree with the disappointment in BBW candles’ performance. I have gravitated towards Homeworx since I have had no issues with those. I’ve bought them on Free Ship days or even better, when they’re in stock at Ulta. The one winter scent that I loved at BBW this year was only in stock for a short time, so I burned it sparingly (Winter White Woods). Literally smelled like a Christmas tree lot.

YES to Blueberry Pie, bought my first 2 online day after candle day and I had to burn one as soon as I received them to see what all the hype was about. OMG, it's right up there with my beloved Berry Waffle Cone which is my all time favorite BBW candle! In general regarding BBW I only started buying candles from them this year so apparently I missed their glory days. I've had hits and misses with the candles I've bought. I'll probably continue to buy from them because of the convenience, but now I'm heavy into vendor waxes so I'm melting a lot more than I'm burning.

Candle Day I did just an online order the night before. I had filled my cart earlier in the day, and right when sale went live at 11:35, I saw so checked out then. I have been buying more candles from a local vendor, who I used to buy from. Her candles just throw, and I do love her extensive scent list. She made me a Cranberry Relish and a Cranberry Eggnog I have going now downstairs. My entire house is filled with scent. Even one of my kids came from his room, bedroom furthest from the stairs, at end of a long hall upstairs, loving the smell of the 2 candles he smelled from downstairs.
I did the same but everything was sold out by the time I checked out :( Such a bummer. I would have loved some strawberry poundcake.
I am about to give up on BBW candles. I haven't burned for 4 years, once I found that the filters in the furnace were black. it actually took two filters to make me realize how much soot was being produced. It was a combo of BBW and Yankee. I always chop mine up, but the scent is lacking. Could they be just lightly scenting the wax, but add to top layer to lure us in? I am buying more and more from wax vendors. As for Homeworx, that brand in quite lacking in scent. I bought the amaretto pumpkin and can barely smell it. AND the body care....you can't smell it unless you keep your nose on your skin. The company used to have quality in all it did, but even before Slatkin left, cotton balling became the norm. I was hoping Kringle would take the lead, but their wax is very light, too. Oh well.....more in the bank account and nowhere to spend it. My husband will be pleased.
I don’t buy much from Bbw anymore mostly because I have more than I’m comfortable with. I’ve been gravitating towards smaller, independent companies (1803 and Antique Farmhouse Candle Co. are my two faves). I just buy a couple from them (cost more but I overall buy less) and burn them, toss them and keep it moving.
I totally agree with you! Bath and Body works just isn't consistent. It's sad but I don't get excited anymore and have gone to wax melts instead.

I have stopped purchasing candles as well. I am more in to Scentsy now. I will buy the odd candle and chop it up for my warmers, but I have only purchased 3 candles this entire year. I am frustrated with body care as well. I will find a scent I love and then they never bring it back. Boardwalk Marshmallow clouds body care is a perfect example. It came out summer of 2018, and I loved the scent. It was sold out when I went to pick up more and then it never returned this past summer. I had hope SAS would have some and it wasn't in our SAS either. I really loved the Secret Wonderland Candle and body care that came out in 2010. It has never returned, at least not here in Canada. It actually was such a beautiful candle scent and I have a small one wick left that I have be hoarding, but I have chopped it up and am using it since I watched your video on how older ones are losing their scent.
I hear ya. My beloved cider lane smells nothing like it used to. Makes me so aggravated.
I have one Berry Waffle Cone in the purple ripped glass left and don’t want to burn it. I have other Berry Waffle cone on different packaging. I will have to see if I can find the Blueberry Pie in the White Barn collection.
Ease of availability and return/ exchange policy have kept me going back to BBW. I'm ready to just use what I have though if they keep increasing the price, because I agree they aren't as strong and they aren't lasting as long as I'm used to. However, I strictly melt and the candles I tend to like still last longer melting than they did burning.
I agree and BBW candles are NOT just not performing or the scent throw is nil when burning! They/BBW needs to go back to the good 'ole days with their formulation as was a winner. I can't tell you how many candles I have returned this year.
Does your store ever give you a hard time with returns?
@@MrKongsMom No, they are great, especially the one I usually go into, they know me well (I buy a lot). lol Did run into a problem past summer with no receipt exchanges as policy has changed and only allowed so many, I believe, in a three month period. Just want to say you are so beautiful and you are so articulated - enjoy watching you!!

Well they don’t even send the coupons like they used too. I remember you were saying cw was one of your favs. And I commenting to you that my cranberry woods was light and here yours was as well. Ugh. . Like y. I’ve been buying the winter candle from day one before it even became popular. They totally screwed that one up for the past 2 yrs. Why are they messing with classics. Even fresh balsam , evergreen ,Fireside and so on. These candles loosing the performance at the halfway point is why I bought the candle crock. It is very rare I get a well performed great throw 3 wick worlds best candle. I spend more time than I should attending to these candles. They really should pass out cotton balls to us. We buy candles for enjoyment not to be stressed by them. I hv been exploring diff candle co. But I do blame myself because I’m the one who buys them hoping that I will get that perfect candle. Sorry for the rant. It’s just so frustrating.

I wanted to mention, or ask rather, have you heard of Tyler Candle Company? I just purchase a candle called Blueberry Blitz, and holy crappppp! It is very similar to the Blueberry Pie ( I bought several also) but, man, oh man it is SO much better and the throw is crazy good. My entire home smells of delicious blueberry pie within- no joking 10 mins and remains an hour after it is extinguished. Honestly, it’s just SO incredible. It was my first purchase and it will not be my last!

I feel like BBW candles are very hit or miss. I buy them but find I'm often disappointed. Homeworx is by far my go to these days. The ambiance, scents and over all experience of their candles makes my happy place happy and so the cost is worth it for me. ( especially the hob nail )
Berry waffle cone!!! I haven't bought many BBW candles this year either. I actually stopped buying them once they started incorporating essential oils in them. I use to be able to get some without but now all have them. The EO's are terrible for cats per my vet. Yea, it can depend on the EO used but you don't really know when the scent notes are things like "flaky pie crust". I also think the EO's are probably a cause of low throw because they are not meant to be used at high heat. I loved blueberry pie on cold but since it has EO's, I cannot risk it.
So interesting about the EO, thanks for sharing! And, it makes sense because that's when their candle performance went down.
Why would that be harmful to your cat? You said per your vet, we have a cat and would never want to harm her, can you explain more please?
@@oliviasanchez7243 Some essential oils are harmful to animals. Cats liver cannot filter some phenols and other things so they build up in their system causing harm. Diffusing (cool mist) will not happen in my house per my vet recommendation. We don't always know what is used in blends to pin point if harmful. My vet just said to avoid essential oils. I have done a lot of research and spoke to bbw many times. I do know many that burn bbw candles with cats and no issues. I recently found their ingredient list (on their website) and some don't mention essential oils. It could be somewhat a gimmick but bbw CS says if it says it then it does. I was at a friends house the other day and she had one burning in her house (only 1 not 5) and her kitty had free range of the house. She never had issues and said they aren't the same in candles.
Shame on bbw, raising the prices and lowering the quality-I’m disappointed as well, only a select few candles actually perform well.the money back guarantee is the only reason I haven’t fully given up on them.

I could not agree with you more I really love the selection of candles at B&BW and look forward to the new scents but I miss the candle quality I would definitely jump ship if there was some other company who could bring better candles at a reasonable price

I was not interested in candle day and stopped burning BBW because of the light throw, puny wicks and wax discoloration and I have noticed a yellow film on my crown moldings where I burn them so be careful of that. My home is the size of yours or a little larger and one candle used to fill my main level and now I have problems filling one room. I prefer 100% soy candles and beeswax candles. Would love to see another Root haul. I know you love Root and Swan Creek. : )
