I have been watching your videos for over a year now and have started making my own soap and body products. I'm now getting into candles and pottery (all for fun). I hope one day I can make something nice enough to send to you. Blessings upon you and your family. Please know that your presence on RUclips is much appreciated.

      I know how I found it ;) Saf. But I stayed for Katie's sweet helpfulness. Though this soap I'd have been off once I heard "coffee" (migraine trigger) if not for the small biz tips. As a crafter who had to move away from my established customer base, it's been hard to get going here. ESP. since my art/craft is hard to ship and is sold for less than the cost of materials on sites like Etsy.... and I'm always ready to learn from others who have made their crafting full time financially viable.

      here in Italy we have very different eating habits, plus we're kinda picky with our coffee (aka we generally think starbucks style coffees are crap 😅), so pumpkins are not the first choice for treats or desserts (we mainly use them in soups, risotti and roast side dishes), but I personally love a good pumpkin cheesecake 🤤🤤🤤

    About beveling: I’m always blown away when people use a potato peeler so smoothly to bevel! I can handle lye, work in a time crunch against accelerating soap batter, create intricate swirls and designs. But make a straight edge with a potato peeler I CANNOT do 😂😂

    • @Dandidandelion
      @Dandidandelion 3 года назад

      Me too. I have tried and tried and they are always wobbly and go from shallow to deep and back again. I decided that I don't really mind a "rough" edge on my soap, because the people who buy from me are just excited to get something handmade.

    Love the small business advice girl! Also love your attitude towards community vs competition. I used to have a very small handmade jewlery biz a couple years ago and the people in my local area selling handmade items were so cut throat and cliquey about the whole thing.. it made me lose interest in pursuing any further because I much more aligned with your mentality! I've been thinking about starting a soap biz since quitting the jewlery, and your advice and bubbly personality really encourages me to go after the dream! Thanks so much Katie 🎃🎀

    Question about using the colors: Why do you sometimes have the pigment in a liquid and sometimes just a powder?

    • @Leetreebee
      @Leetreebee 3 года назад +11

      From my understanding it just makes it easier to mix sometimes!

    • @crysellium
      @crysellium 3 года назад +18

      Yup! Just helps the colorant disperse. It's particularly helpful for Titanium Dioxide and Black Oxide iirc

    • @mwater_moon2865
      @mwater_moon2865 3 года назад +1

      TD and black will both clump badly if it's not a liquid when it goes in, and powders can "poof" when trying to mix them in if the sides aren't high enough. but mixing it into yourself to an oil can make a mess and be wasteful esp if you're afraid of putting the oil ratios off.
      Think Kraft mac and cheese powder vs. Velveeta liquid.

    I’m a big pumpkin chocolate chip muffin fan. And I love a pumpkin cheesecake. As for apples, there’s this little ice cream shop in the town I went to college in (shout out to Ultimate Ice Cream in Asheville, NC!) that used to do a seasonal flavor that was sweet cream apple butter swirl and it was to die for! It was an Italian sweet cream ice cream base with a swirl of locally made apple butter running through it and it was fantastic! A runner up for apple stuff are spiced apple cider slushees. They’re hard to find, but they’re amazing! Literally just spiced fresh pressed apple cider run through a slushee machine.

It’s pretty simple to make (just cook the pumpkin and add brown sugar, maybe some honey, cardamom, maybe cinnamon, and maybe some other spices) but it’s SO GOOD. The only thing that you said that I agree with but don't currently do is where you said not to make things you don't like or use scents you don't like. I am not a fan of FO's myself, I like EO's, yet for the first two years of soap making, I used only EO's. My business didn't start to explode until I added FO's to my line. I wish I could do as well using EO's only, I LOVE all things botanical soaps, though I do enjoy making the fancy soaps that so many people seem to love. "Crunchy" is just more my personal thing. You are a HUGE inspiration to me. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. Even my children (and hubby sometimes too!) enjoy watching with me! I actually don't like any sort of warm fruit because I think the texture is super gross, so no pie or warm pumpkins for me! this soap is pretty. One small add to give it a little more pop - poppycock mica line between the anchoring brown and the swirly top.

    My favorite pumpkin treat is roasted pumpkin with a butter, brown sugar, and spice glaze. And of course the roasted pumpkin seeds, way better than sunflower seeds; which is already incredible.

    You know that chocolate pudding dessert that has oreos in it and is super popular? While I was experimenting with dessert and wanted to make a Thanksgiving version! So I did exactly that the bottom is a layer of vanilla oreos then it has a layer of vanilla pudding then on top of that its a pudding/pumpkin mix that I came up with and then top it off with some cool wipe and crusted up vanilla oreos 🥰💕 It's seriously so good!!! 💕

    I cook down sugar (or called pie) pumpkins and puree and freeze it for baking during the year because I hate buying canned food. My brother is particularly fond of my pumpkin chocolate chip bread and cookies. I also do whoopie pies with maple cream cheese frosting, and pumpkin, white chocolate, cranberry cookies. I've also made in the past the pumpkin scones from Starbucks. I don't do pie because of I don't handle the custard texture well. As for apples... Applesauce, apple pie, apple crumble, apple fritter cake, apple strudel. Fall is my favorite!

    I love apple pie 💕 And since I’m from a country where eating pumpkin isn’t really a thing, I have no idea what it tastes like.
    I’m from Denmark, I’m 36 years old and this year was the first time ever I’ve tasted a Pumpkin Spice Latté. And that was thanks to Starbucks. Didn’t like it much, but it was a bit better when it cooled.

    100% yes I love your business, and I love your soaps. I honestly never feel like I'm being sold your soaps or manipulated into buying them (although they're like the only body soap I use now). And I'm starting my own creative business and LOVE to glean business tips and practices from my favorites.
