Listen to Craig!! As someone who has taken multiple trips to Alaska - both cruise and land based - get out of the port towns!! They are cute, but they are also huge tourist traps. Our last cruise we booked a private guide that drove us into the Yukon. Oh my God. That was amazing and beyond anything you will see on the train. If you don't want to pay that much as Craig said, rent a car. Whatever you do, get out of Skagway. It's cute. It's also incredibly fake.

THANK YOU for the animal advocacy. I can’t do it, too depressing for me.
    Great show guys

My wife and I are doing our 1st cruise ever to Alaska on the Wonder this May/June. We booked last September and have watched a lot of RUclips videos and vlogs since. Your channel has been very entertaining and informative and I enjoy the different viewpoints and opinions from everyone. We're doing the White Pass Railroad excursion in Skagway, then will probably do some hiking and exploring the town on our own. The Jewell Gardens sounded nice, but unfortunately, it looks like they're permanently closed (according to Yelp and Google.) Keep up the good work! 👍

We just cruised Celebrity Alaska starting in Vancouver. We loved the train ride going through the tunnels and the view of our ship in Port. The history of the railroad was very interesting and would highly recommend this excursion at least once . Great video dis crew love hearing about your experiences.

I was in Skagway with ncl - did also ‘the best of skagway’ Actors at Liarsville where so nice, salmon bake was delicious. On the train, in early june so much snow still - very beautiful. Red Onion Saloon brothel tour was funny and interesting ( the hole in the floor & the puppet cabinet). I had a great day in Skagway

I wish our Alaska cruise had included Skagway on the itinerary.
Our cruise was great, but when we go back Skagway is a must.

We did the rib boat adventure. Absolutely amazing. Whales were so close, seals, eagles, and the end of the fjord was the most amazing site. Highly recommended. We have also done a rib boat in Geiranger, Norway. Both were amazing but I preferred Skagway

7:15…If you want a very good idea of what one of the Alaskan cruise port towns was like “when the cruise ships aren’t there”, check out a very good hour long video called “Alaska’s Silent Summer” about how dramatically one of the major cruise stops (I believe it’s Ketchikan) was affected when their whole economic engine just…Vanished…for summer 2020 (and most of 2021, too)…it’s on Nebula but it’s produced by Wendover Productions so it might be on his RUclips channel too

My partner worked in Skagway for 6 summers with the Jewell Gardens and the Red Onion and I worked there for 2 with the park service (after having worked elsewhere in Alaska previously.) In response to another commenter, most of the stores owned by the cruiselines are the standard jewelry stores but there are 2-3 locally owned jewelry shops that are obvious in the type and quality of the jewelry as it is more locally influenced and artistic rather than generic. Most of the other shops and almost all the restaurants are locally owned. It was great to see the new Skagway Brewing Company location as I hadn't seen it yet. My partner tells me on the top floor they have an indoor hydroponic garden and they grow enough to even have a CSA! Planning to go back next summer for the first time in eight years! 😁

Many years ago on another line, I took the rail line up to the pass, and then bicycled back to town. I loved it.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience at the Musher's Camp. On my Alaskan cruise the weekend before we did an excursion that combined the 3 hour train that Ryno and Craig went on and a different Alaska sled dog experience along with panning for gold. At Alaska Sled Dog Adventures you got to see and pet the dogs but no rides. It's also much closer to town and didn't feel like a waste of time at all. Dogs seemed happy and didn't get that "ehhhhh" feeling Ryno mentioned.

The Hike and Float tour in Skagway is great. (about 1.5Mi of the Chilkoot trail, then a raft down the river). It isn't normally a disney official excursion though. Totally great and fun though. Lots of history too.

Agreed the small van tours in Skagway are sooo much better and to Craig’s point you can stop and go at your leisure

I grew up in Anchorage and have never wanted to go to Juneau or Skagway; I don't feel like those towns show the "real" Alaska, more like Northern Washington. Thank you for this video showing what Skagway is all about! Cheers!
