In 2002, when I was 11 years old, I was one of the few in my community who owned a PlayStation device. My language is Arabic and I was learning French in school, until I got my hands on this masterpiece. It had a great impact on my learning of the English language and had an impact. In creating my character, the funny thing is that the maximum time I would reach the 80% level, where I had a mission under a big tree, there the disk would always crash. Now, after all this talk, here I am so I can know what the end of the story was and feel as if time had passed. He took me back there😊

14:49 - first flying lesson. This was the first video game I played as a kid, and the controls really melted my brain. Inverted by default @.@
52:44 - this boss scared the crap out of me XD In the 5th game on ps2, these gargoyles are friendlies, but I never trusted em @.@
57:36 - This. Lava. River. This was my coming of age moment; the first time that I did it myself instead of handing off the controller to my dad. The /anxiety/ and those camera angles are just filthy XD old games man. Gotta love em.
1:33:55 The thrill. The agony of defeat. The many /many/ visits to Madame Pomfrey TwT I'm glad im not the only one who gave up on trying to freeze them (it was never worth it!)
2:18:38 Peeves, you rat bastard. I learned the meaning of rage in this race. And some choice curse words.
2:41:36 .... Gringotts. This section took years off my life expectancy. Heck, I'm giving the Galleon section its own link. 2:51:19 my big rant was always how there is /literally an employee sitting next to me, why is the child driving???/
    3:00:41 i struggled more than is reasonable with this dang peacock. Plus the sound it makes gives me the -_-;;;;
3:07:26 this whole section was spooky as heck for a littlun. Atmospheric and cool, but I was a big baby back then. 3:16:14 especially.
3:17:52 the flute. Button prompts of any kind were my bane. I'd practice it through loading screens for muscle memory. I credit this obsession to my QTE skillz to this very day. 3:25:16 and this is why. Had to get through fluffy flawlessly because I was absolute trash at fighting the Devil's Snare.

So many indescribable feeling flows through my mind watching this. I may have play this games for hours and hours.
Funny thing is I dont get nostalgia from games like i did when i was a child, I really was in another world while I was playing ps1. Depending on the game I get different feelings of nostalgia, it's almost like my feelings from the past have different flavors or scents to them. This game is what i remember the most along with Toy story 2 and Hercules. I like the atmosphere in these games for example here in HP1 when you walk the corridors or dungeons there are humble white noise sounds in the background which makes it both creepy and cosy. It is medicore games but they where so well executed. Or maybe I've just gotten too old and lost my abillity to fantasize. It seems so sad. I wish i could be a child again just for one day and experience these moments again and feel it to the fullest. Now I only feel fractions of my childhood.

    • @evanharrison4054
      @evanharrison4054 4 года назад

I remember playing this game on my uncle's computer during Christmas around 2001 or something like that.
I can clearly remember it, how this game made me feel so cozy and happy, but what's most jarring was how much my mindset has changed. Back then, I still thought my parents loved me, that the shit they pulled was normal in every family. I thought I had an okay life, that I'll get away from them without almost dying and getting more or less permanently disabled, that my life won't be just a seemingly endless uphill walk with idiotic mouthbreathers chucking things at my face at every turn.
My life now is more or less great, but the eighteen or so years between then and now was what I'd wager was one of the most awful, brutal, pointlessly cruel set of circumstances anyone has ever had the chance to face.
Honestly, if I could go back to that kid playing this game back then, I'd tell him to run or burn the house to the ground, because pacifism and a cool headed approach was clearly a terrible misstep on his part.
Frankly, this game makes me want to walk up to that monster that spawned me and rather ironically thank her for giving me a childhood where playing with a video game for 3-4 days was basically the high point of my existence.
It got so much better, but there's a part of me that wishes for the rose tinted glasses of a way too hopeful kid. Then again, that kid believed that if he's smart and eager enough, some magical group of superior people will give him the means and a reason to live. (I'd have been sorted to Slytherin for sure.)
Part of growing up is coming to terms with the fact that this world fucking sucks and that there's no reasonably seeming evidence that we aren't actually in Hell. I tried. Considering all the evidence, it's all but impossible to disprove the existence of God, except there isn't any form of higher justice or tangible evidence of divine intervention that would indicate any sort of benevolence.
Anyway, seems like both of us have had profound realizations by looking at a 20 year old game. There's still part of our childhoods we desperately need to reevaluate.
For example, I like to get shitfaced and play Earthworm Jim and Commander Keen. Loosening up and exposing yourself to stimuli you have experienced as a kid is the best way to connect to your memories in any tangible manner. It helps a bit when you feel like your past is in another world.
Hopefully I said at least one thing that's useful to you.

@@evanharrison4054 damn.. sorry for the late answer. Crazy how a game can bring back so many traumatic and good feelings. I play alot of games today but they rarely have as much impact on me. I'm sorry to here about your past, but come to think of it, my family was chaotic too... My parent fought All the time, and today they are divorced. They used to lay all their anger on me and my brother, but when I sat down to play video games I felt safe and in my passionate space. Although my mom said it was bad for me to play games and had kind of a trump vision on it. I'm glad you wrote, and I hope you'll find meaning in Life despite all the meaninglessness. Especially in these times. Growing up being wise and clever can be hard, you get to reflect on life and what the whole point is. Personally I'm atheist but I want to live my life to it fullest caus i personally believe in no afterlife. Some days are good some are bad, but that's how it is sometimes. I do believe one can achieve happiness completely, it's just a matter of perceiving and balance.

@@thedanishdudeson Gee, I did not mean to disturb you. I saw your honesty, and honestly, I thought some honesty could help me as well. Yikes.
I'm the same with games. There's one or two that reach into that special place and just tear it out of me(Metro Exodus The Two Colonels DLC for example), but getting a major emotional impact from something is something of a rarity for me.
I'm still capable of it, it's just that today's games are made by more people. More people equals less vision. Even if you don't know what's with the writing, you kind of feel that any rough edges have been sanded off to protect the sensibilities of the 20 people writing it.
My parents did the social distancing thing with me 20 years ago. They didn't allow me to have friends or go out of the house. Normally, they didn't even allow me to play, but luckily whoever wasn't an alcoholic or senile, was pretty much always out. Did not take long to figure out systems that allowed me to have some privacy. Most of the time when my mother wasn't around, I managed to find some fun.
The only time she was nice to me was when she got cancer and thought she was going to die. Didn't talk to me, fill up my room with garbage or smash my stuff for a whole two months. That's the nicest memory I have of her.
Don't get me wrong, I don't wish suffering on anyone, but it was nice to be left alone by the one thing that causes all your suffering and misery and lack of self confidence.
Your mother was wrong, I think. Playing video games is only bad for you if you neglect other things in favor of it.
If you have friends with whom you don't hang out or job opportunities you miss, then it's a fair point, but it's not more of a waste of time than any recreational sport or playing music and especially watching television.
Besides, everyone needs to let off some steam somehow. As far as pressure valves go, gaming is pretty much the safest.
I'm going to go ahead and assume you don't want to hear what I have to say about the meaning of life and other such things.
Let me just say this one thing: I wouldn't be here if I didn't think that all this is leading somewhere. The only reason I get out of bed every morning is that I know, I have to know, that there's something, somewhere out there.
See, atheists always struck me as...well, petty cowards. Don't get me wrong, many of you are good people, but your metaphysical understanding of this reality seems to be lacking.
It's not that you don't believe in god, but rather that you wouldn't want to believe in a god that created a world such as this.
Rather than disbelieving any form of nonmaterial reality, you question the validity of a faith system that says that god is good and this world is perfectly fine.
See, I'm not an atheist. I've seen too much to be able to say it's all just my imagination. If it is, my imagination is incredibly coherent.
I don't worship god or this world, but rather believe that the creator of our realm is evil and that is world can only be Hell.
To tell you the truth, I'm sickened to the core at the sight of people who pray to whatever so-called-god has power over this cesspit.
I can express myself in a 200 page format as well, but seeing as how you are an atheist, I'd wager you'd just skip it anyway.
In any case, the possibility of you being right is statistically insignificant, while me being right is almost a certainty.
Let me just ask you this one thing and then I'll stop bothering you:
Have you ever felt like...you've been through this sick joke a thousand times?
Have you ever felt like...things around you are less real than you yourself?
Do you feel like what your mother squeezed out into this world wasn't just a dry sponge that sucked up information and molded it into some sort of a facsimile of a personality, but rather that you are a somebody, a person, a perspective that can contain and synthetize conclusions that are not of this world and may even be, in fact, counterintuitive towards it?
Hey, if you ever want to talk, toss an e-mail address my way. I just don't feel comfortable writing any more(which begs the question why I felt comfortable to write this much in the first place)
If not, just think of the things I've told you sometimes, at least in case your worldview falls and you need something to tide you over until you regain your footing.
I wish you the best. You seem like a good person. In an another life, we could even be friends, if only you weren't an atheist(sorry, bad joke)
Thanks for the kind reply. You really made my day.

Can't believe myself and others are still here, in 2018! Shows how awesome this game really was!
Even just watching it is satisfying - but they should really put this, and the CoS, on the PlayStation store.....it would sell, I'm sure!!!

one of biggest challenge in my PS1 era. playing this game without knowing anything about book/movie so I just used my gaming instinct.
I used to thought Levitating Charm (Wingardium Leviousa) as legit strong magic because it sound cool.

This game has such a nice art style and a very fitting soundscape. The gameplay/controls are snappy, and game is well paced. I prefer this over both the PS2 remake and the PC version.

They need to seriously remake this game, now with all the new and amazing graphics, and make it more and more of an open map, especially outside the castle, into the woods and just make the story more and more like the books, and then yes add side missions that can work well with the game such as going to class, or quidditch, etc

A VERY, VERY long game that consists of all the seven stories and included everything the books had, not missing out one thing.

Not at all! Sure, they pale in comparison to modern titles, but you've obviously got classics like Final Fantasy VII, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, etc. Even this title wasn't bad. The scale of the castle is pretty impressive, and it's great that they added all the little nooks and crannies to explore. The worst part I found were the controls. The whole "auto-jump" scheme was always the worst to me, since you never felt fully in control and never knew if your character would make a leap or not. This title seemed to do a decent job of it, but I still could never get the feel for it. It's not the prettiest game, either, with a lot of drab colors and textures that just blend into a visual blur. Not a classic, but a perfectly serviceable title for a movie tie-in.
