One thing you can say about Dougo...he's determined (stubborn?). He can always figure things out, even if it takes a long time. Good job, Dougo! Love you two!😊❤
To funny Dougo. Like a safari! "Never know what you're going to shoot under the stove!!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 All people that live on a farm have these problems.
Irrigation tech here. You need a secondary filter in your basement before the main goes outside to your PVB. Your well pump is picking up and sending all that sand through the system. You’ll start to have sand collecting in the valves causing the zones to get stuck open and those heads will continue to get plugged. All the excessive turning past the stops can cause the gears to strip out pre-maturely. Much quicker and easier to just replace the head when it gets to that point. Just dont buy the cheap RainBird heads at the hardware store. Find a local irrigation supply store and just buy a box of RB 5004 2.0 or hunter pgp ultra 2.0 and you’ll be good for years. When screwing the guts back in, tighten it until its snug then you can turn the zone on and grab the whole head under the part the rotates and twist the body to where it needs to be. Also, dont use the pliers to tighten the head if you ever want to get the head off the fitting. Just needs to be snug, not tight
Good advice. He may be pumping from the lake which could be a larger potential for sediment and suspended silt in the lake water. Most have some sort of strainer on a lake pump inlet.
Hate lake pumps. Never able to filter it enough. I’ve started using the basket our supplier sells and use the supplied filter screen plus another screen inside the basket then instal a secondary filter after the pump before it goes underground to the system. That property changed the filter this spring after 3 years and i havent had any reports of plugged heads or stuck valves. Little extra money for the client but worth it in the long run for less maintenance
Thanks again!! Your videos are always so fun n enlightening. Thank you so so much for your time and sharing. In every one of your videos I take away some message of nothing but good pure goodness. Thanks!
Thanks to Amy and Dougo for a most interesting video. You two had me laughing at the issue and feeling bad for you and back to humor with the struggle bus. This has been a real fun video with lots of different subjects and good old fashioned laughter. You two are really good at this video thing. You both are just good old honest people talking about everyday subjects. Been there done that myself Amy and Dougo. Guess that is what life is all about. You folks are great at it. Glad the sprinkler is fixed and the lawnmower repaired. Am sure you have the gutter cleaned out by now. Good going with these issues. About it I guess. You both have a wonderful day and enjoy your nice place. You both are the BEST!!!!!!! Thanks. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
Every family has a rabbit hole that is always hidden and shaded. You two have a family style that I'll bet a majority of families in this world wish they could have even half. Dougo has built a prosperous farming operation and both of you combined have built a life long true loving family. What more is there to be had or ask for?
So thankful Amy takes the time to do these. Much appreciated and so much fun for us. Dougo, you are a budding movie star and soon Farming will be your hobby😂.
I am fighting stage 4 prostate cancer, and there are some days I just don't feel very good, but when I watch you guys I always get a smile on my face and can forget about my pain. You bring me a lot of joy and laughs. Please keep doing your vlogs and keep showing the love you have for each other, even when the struggle bus is running. God Bless You!!
Yea those sprinklers are a nightmare I did same thing trying to make it go right way yup until I watched a utube video 😂 god bless y’all always fun watching
I am an irrigation technician for a landscape company. I loved this video! Lol I would have driven out to help.. I love the videos. Through the tv I wanted to tell you what to do.. And I pray like that everyday at work and things go smoother! Bless yall
Enjoyed you reminiscing about your old house. I lived in a 1973 mobile home until 2019 when we finally replaced it with a new modular. The mice were horrible and also had a bull snake get in once.
My house was built in 1910. I bought it in 2012. Had a mouse around 2020, not sure how it got in but once i noticed it's tracks i pulled everything out and washed everything with hot water and clorox. I've had a couple small orange and black ring snakes in the basement. Haven't seen any of those in a few yrs. But i always have a ton of spiders that i can't get rid of. Awesome video Amy. Lawn grass is way over rated. I just deal with the weeds and chop them off once every 10 days or so on the back yard and once a month on the front, front yard is all shades so it grows extremely slow. 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
You guys are so funny, and inspirational to all. Nothing like the feeling of conquering life's struggles, as God intended. Never give in! Whats the whistling noise in the background? Is it a pump or something on a VFD?
Dougo reminded me of when I was at work with the flashlight in my mouth! Dentist yelled at me so I eventually got a headlight flashlight, haha! Was always a pain working on trucks! Amy, you remind me of my wife, she is always cold also. I and her father would tell her that she had frog or snake blood! Now I get to go out to the 5th wheel and remove the residential refrigerator again to see why the ice maker is not getting water, I feel your pain Dougo! Nice video!
I have over 100 sprinklers in my yard and I have to change 3+ every year, due to hard water. My experience has been that when a sprinkler has sand all around it then the connection to the sprinkler is probably broken. For me, that is typically a sprinkler on a corner where someone ran over it, which looks like what your situation may be. Good luck!
I can relate to the projects you need to don't always go as planned. My wife and I live in a old farm house that had all kinds of varments. Sure makes one appreciate when it gets better enjoy your videos.
Of course I'm watching all of this, Doug! I've learned quite a bit... I'll call a repairman for lawn sprinklers.... No way am I doing what you did at my age of 75 with all my creaking joints!
Amy, when you have your thyroid checked with the TSH test, make sure you ask about testing your T3..... if you are taking Levothyroxine (Synthroid) and are stilll having issues, your T3 test will tell your Doctor you probably need a different med.
I put 2 pairs of pantyhose over my inlet pipe and it helps keep rubbish from getting in the heads. Usually do it twice a year since they deteriorate. I live the irrigation struggle too.
One stop on the head is fixed, I believe it’s the right margin. Turn the sprinkler clockwise until it stops. when installing in the body, put the sprinkler in with that stop point pointed to the right or clockwise margin. That will be the point it stops rotating and goes in the opposite direction. I believe to set the left margin, you push the sprinkler down slightly (while running) turn all the way to the right, then turn to the left to where you want the left margin to be. Good luck.
If you are thrown under the😊 bus, trade that bus in for a fuzzy pair of slippers. Sprinkles are not easy Hence, the sprinkler guys have to come back and come back and come back. And they're supposed to be the pros hat's off.You guys for taking this on😅.Beautiful property 🎉
I have two houses and they both have sprinkler systems. One is a Rain Bird and other is a Hunter system. I have been struggling with both of them for years. One of my zones on the Rain Bird just never works. I have replaced the heads and tried to make it work. I feel your pain.
I remember when I was little we lived in a house that had the exterior entrance to the basement. The walls going down were rock and mortar, well the mortar was deteriorated and occasionally small Garter snakes would appear either in the walls and end up on the steps.
It’s amazing how similar your life experiences mirror my wife and I! One big difference was when we were in old farmhouse with all the critters the straw was when a skunk got in the crawl space
My husband and I are dying laughing as Dougo is cleaning out the sprinkler head! You two are so entertaining, encouraging, and day brighteners! We love your videos!

My son has a very sandy/gravely yard and his sprinklers are short lived because of the sand. He has ten zones with six sprinkler heads per zone so it is a lot of maintenance every year.
Yes there is tools for your sprinkle adjustments and replacement. Hello from SW Florida. We had a lawn and irrigation business here for years. Just bite the bullet and replace the whole sprinkler head. Shut the water off and dig out around the head to replace.

Dust control! Yes! That's it!

Amy definitely needs a zero turn mower to make the lawn look good. It'll probably have a good seat also! 😅
You’ve worked hard for many years to get where you are
Having an irrigation system...it's a learning curve. The first sprinkler head is the learning curve.
