@@CuttingEdgeEngineeringDo you think that those seals were of a lesser quality or do they just have a finite lifespan when used on a regular basis ? I don't have much experience with hydraulics as far as longevity and regular wear . Had I watched the whole thing first you said it . 🤦🏼♂️

I am so glad you went after the piston seals as well, so many try to short cut it. I would recommend reviewing the recommended oil for this press, there is a chance you are using oil that is not compatible with the seals.
Our 500 ton press at the Illinois Railway Museum was built in the late 1800s and has a 6 foot stroke. We've replaced the seals many times using the finest material of the time, leather. It was originally steam powered but we converted to 150 psi. shop air years ago. Awesome hydraulic tute, enjoyed this much. Thanks Kurtis and Karen!
Watching you resealing hydraulic rams takes me back a lot of years when i used to do it for a living over 20 years. Started when i was in the US Air Force as a hydraulic mechanic on jet aircraft. Really enjoy your videos.
Always appreciate the way you move weight around in the workshop. None of this 'Watch me be a real man and deadlift this half tonne block of metal'. You work smart, and like a man who actually wants his body to last for a lifetime of productive work. Hero.
I love to watch you taking great care with the safety of the workpiece, yourself and of course the lovely Karen, always a pleasure to see one of your videos pop up. As for the press, 8 years old and the seals are in such a really bad state, that looks like bad manufacturing to me, it's not like the press has been abused in the bottom of a mine or anything.
Hi, guys! Well done! That press gets a lot of use, so it's not surprising that it was time for an overhaul. Working on hydraulic components is usually messy and hard to hold, but your experience makes it look effortless. And shop-made tools (spanner and lift yoke) come to the rescue once again! Thanks guys and have a great week! Cheers.
The visual quality of the video as well as the editing, the always relevant comments/explanations of the different sequences ensure that the videos are of unquestionably professional quality and Karen deserves an Oscar nomination for this. Thank you for the teaching you are doing and the legacy.

we appreciate our viewers who take the time to watch, especially at crazy early/late hours!
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering Yeah I have to be up at 5am so I can get a quick walk in before settling down and waiting for your video to release at 7am GMT!
Staying up here on the west coast of the USA.
My wife and I watch hypnotised. Ps im 77. I understand and marvel. Video work world class. Thank you both. Ps staffies my wife's favourite. Take care .
Just 75 here, and yes I do look forward to the CEE video
I guess I will go to bed at 3 AM. I can’t sleep knowing there is a Cutting Edge Engineering video. 🇺🇸
Greetings from Boise, Idaho! Thank you for another superb video. Kurtis, I came up right out of my seat at 29:22! I thought for sure that you were going to lose 8 fingers all at once! Thank you for not spiking my blood pressure too much! And thank you, Karen, for your excellent video work. Without it, we would not be able to see the Genius work his magic! Kurtis, we men must always listen to our good wives! Thanks!
You just learned me something I never knew about dieseling a cylinder.
I like your approach to setting up the work environment to effect repairs. You are quite cautious in your methods of securing the work. Very good at teaching work area safety.
Karen's "oh geez" for those seals really hits hard given how much she has seen.
10/10, would watch you rebuild one of your core tools again.
Also the homie-cam footage was great this week.
Haha, she's got a good eye! Glad you enjoyed the homie-cam footage.
I am very impressed with the creative and professional video making. Good shots, interesting angels, always capturing details... I am sure this must take many extra hours for Curtis to wait or repeat steps of work. I can see an amazing development of video making over the years.
Its one thing to have interesting work, but another thing to capture it the right way to create great content. Well done!
We try our best to make the videos interesting and informative! 😊
Second best hydraulic press content on RUclips.
the other channel started out with a 150T press too.
And the other channel is literally from the other side of this clayball we call earth. 👍
So tell us where it is, why don't ya, -
so that I can check it out.. 😜
@@beakittelscherz5419it’s literally called ‘hydraulic press channel’ 😂
Yep, and they are from Finland.
Great video, I love seeing the details of how your machines actually work!
DANG ! The ELBOW on the breaker-bar is SHEER GENIUS ! I hope I recall it in times of need !
I would suggest a "T" fitting to get more leverage perhaps.
The ingenuity is always brilliant. Kurtis always seems to find a way to do things.
who makes these subtitles?
they are always so well done and easy to read and the terminology is on point.
most channels dont bother with subtitles so it has always caught my eye.
Karen of course 😊🤭
Damn Kurtis...so sorry to hear about your leaky shaft ! Great video as always !
no one wants a leaky shaft 😥😂
@@CuttingEdgeEngineeringDo you think that those seals were of a lesser quality or do they just have a finite lifespan when used on a regular basis ? I don't have much experience with hydraulics as far as longevity and regular wear .
Had I watched the whole thing first you said it . 🤦🏼♂️
Kurtis cure came in a bag.
Its a function of age - bugger
"..so sorry to hear about your leaky shaft "
But isn't that the same thing that your mother said to you?
It's always nice to see your banters.
Excellent job both of you.
Hi Homeless and family. Love that you take the time for Homeless I Love Homeless in your episodes.
Kurtis, you're a man of many talents.
Whoever trained you must be a proud person. Do enjoy your programs. Reminds me of the many job my farther would do or supervise. Looking forward to what you do next.😊
Ow ow ow ow ow ow, that gets my seal of approval. Great job Curtis, good camera work, i thought hommie was gonna go for crocodile then chicken next lol. Have a great day all.
It's my birthday what better way to start the day than a CEE video
Happy birthday Zak! Hope you have a good one mate 😎👊
@CuttingEdgeEngineering thanks keep up the good work
Happy Birthday. Hope you have a great one. ❤
Happy Brithday, mate. Hope you have an enjoyable day.
Mine is tomorrow so I had my gift already. Happy birthday Zak.
Always appreciate the way you move weight around in the workshop. None of this 'Watch me be a real man and deadlift this half tonne block of metal'. You work smart, and like a man who actually wants his body to last for a lifetime of productive work. Hero.
Thank you Karen and Kurtis. :)
Never stops surprising me that you pretty much know how everything functions. Disassemble, reassemble, done. Regardless of whatever it is.
PLEASE NEVER STOP doing what you are doing. This is such a guilty pleasure of mine to watch. I love your videos ! ❤
I love Karen talking more during the gaps. She has a lovely voice that really shows off the Aussie accent. Love you guys!
Isn't the lovely Karen a Kiwi??
She's not, is she? Some people confuse my subtle South Australian accent with being kiwi. Less than a third of my life was spent three.
...waltzing Matilda...waltzing Matilda...you'll be a waltzing Matilda with me...
...YOU'RE JUST ANOTHER XENOPHILE...(!)
20:00...THERE'S WOOFER...(!)
Hi, guys! Cheers.
That ram's not weeping, it's bawling!
The visual quality of the video as well as the editing, the always relevant comments/explanations of the different sequences ensure that the videos are of unquestionably professional quality and Karen deserves an Oscar nomination for this. Thank you for the teaching you are doing and the legacy.
Now I know what time to look for new videos from CEE.
Thursday night, 11:00 p.m. PST in the United States.
I rewatched part 25 of the Frenna Crane Project earlier.
Same exact here!
2 AM here in Toronto; then switching to 3 AM when we go on daylight saving time. Or is that banana time?
Just wanna say thank you because of watching your videos over the years I was able to rebuild my piston on my tractor. I’m surprised that press had any pressure at all considering how bad the seals where
At least it looks like the seals have done their job and protected the barrel, piston, and rod from each other.
I was writing a comment about compatibility issues when you mentioned it,I completely agree , most likely for water or air service? Homey gets a love and a laugh every time he shows up !
Good catch on the repair much longer and it could have been scored up!
Nice camera work Karen!
Machinist: Cheater Bar!!
Kurtis: That’s nawt a cheetah bah……THIS is a cheetah bah!!!
REF: Crocodile Dundee Knife scene.
Your channel has some of the best content out there. The camera work and the subject is really something special.
I wish you both 1000000 subscribers as soon as possible👍👍👍
Bravo, another fantastic video, you two are great.
Love Homey and the Homeycam,he is such a treat.
Karen, your quick camera action for the best position is great, and I love your giggles or quick comments in the background.
Kurtis,I'm sure with your knowledge you're totally capable of repairing the "crack of dawn".
Thanks for the viewing pleasure,I really enjoy them.
Not sure why but watching stuff done in a machine shop is sort of relaxing. And there is a new dog cam that is nice ;)
Ahhh.... nicely cleaned and fresh new rings lathered in grease/oil seated. So satisfying to see something like this being serviced with the utmost care!!! :)
Love it that Kurtis has a "C plate with chains" to lift the ram out 👌, great work both.
Thanks for sharing
My thoughts as well, is he missing anything in his kit of tools?
@@ozturner . I noticed it looked well weathered/used. Certainly a very capable craftsman.
You were not a day too early taking the press apart, I have never seen seals that badly deteriorated. Totally agree that they cannot be compatible with the Hydraulic fluid. Thank you to you both Another excellent fix and entertaining video.
