    Still playing my Serial No. 460 fretless and No.526 fretted Spector NS-1 basses as first owner since 1982 with a very big grin on my face. Did not find better stuff in 40 years!

    This is cool, I'd love to see an All about the bass where they do some of the guitar rig challenges. I'd be interested to see a gigging bass rig for 500 or 1000, or even a Sounds like X without busting the bank video for bass players (ex: Jamerson, Flea, McKagen, Burton, etc.). Perhaps it's just me, but I think it'd be cool

    The Kramer era Korean bases are great also. You can find them a little cheaper. They’re still wonderful instruments.

    Anyway, you put it Spector is the best to go with. You can play anything you want to play with confidence. Fantastic solid instruments.

    The Spector TonePump circuit is not "boost only", despite what Spector's official product literature says. They acknowledged years ago that this was the case but never bothered to update their website, catalogues etc, so the myth keeps getting perpetuated.

    I'm fortunate to own an old Spector NS-2 that is a bit of a mongrel. It has Hi-A active P/J pickups (Bartolini-made for 3ish years in the mid 1970s) and Spector/HAZ 9v active tone controls (Vol, Treble, Bass, Blend, but no mini-switches). The maple through-body neck has walnut body wings. It's badass.

    I have a Millard Guitar Systems Bass with the Split coil DiMarzio series 1 shared with the ns1.

  • @9999plato

    I had an NS-1 but my pickup wasn't a standard P bass unit. Mine was potted in some sort of resin in a parallelogram sort of shape. I hear it was probably a Dimarzio inside of there. In any case I was married, needed the cash for a car and let it go cheap, for what I paid for it. It is missed. The buyer was like "you sure you want to part with this?" I was being responsible and stupid. Oh I see it's a reissue, that's why it looks like the wrong pickup, and it lacks the standard thumb groove that every player wears/eats in with his thumb above the pickup. the original was passive not active with a brass Badass bridge . My Spector seemed to have no finish, possibly oil but it felt like bare wood.

  • @jamesbridges1107
    @jamesbridges1107 7 лет назад +1

    The original had Schaller tuners(these were dropped in the Euro Series this year). The bridge was a Badass original( not in business anymore). I wonder if the mass is the same?

      They do some budget basses for around the £300 mark and are really great the big difference is the bolt on neck but they play beautifully

    Hey guys love the show! any chance you can do a video on the spector codas? theres really not much sound samples of them on the internet, so its hard to know what theyre like, and i havent seen one in any shops. CHEERS!

    I bought an Ian Hill sig Spector and I don’t play any of my other 10 basses. It covers everything and I like the beefy neck on it too. I had 2 other Spector, one in the 80s and one in the 90s but they were both the cheaper, dot inlay versions and neither had the classic Spector tones that Doug Wimbush, Queensryche, Extreme and Skid Row got. Once I got the Ian Hill I said “ there’s that tone”!!!!

    I had the original version 77 the bridge was a Badass 2 bridge and I believe the tuners were different as well. A divorce forced the sale and that pissed me off for over 20 years. My new wife heard my whining for years and when this reproduction came out I managed to snag a used 77 reproduction without the deep thumb gouge above the pickup with the agular pickups installed. I forgot what a beefy neck it had.

    basically the one with emgs is good for cutting through in genres like metal and agullar is more for music where you don't have to worry about cutting through

    NS-1 sounds like bass, EMG like guitar :-) I have EURO and switched pickups to Seymour Duncan PJ and bass is great now. I cant stand EMG trebly and sterille pickups. Nice basses. Thanks for video.

    they are wrong the sb 1 was spectors first bass the ns 1 was the first model of that design

    • @ncmtd535
      @ncmtd535 5 лет назад

      Joshua Barnes you are correct sir! The SB-1 was Stuart's first bass design. Not many SB-1 basses were made. Ned Steinberger 'suggested' 'what if the body was curved?...' and that collaboration gave us the 'NS' Spector model we know today as the NS model. The SB-1 body curved is the Spector NS body shape known the world over. My SB-1 plays and sounds amazing.

    • @lf170
      @lf170 5 лет назад

      In a way, yes. But the NS-1 was their first production bass. As other poster mentioned, they only made a few of those.

    Today I learned that when you have two great bass players jamming with one another you get something as awesome as one mediocre guitarist playing metallica covers.
    mwuahahahahahaha. bass players, you gotta love em. no matter how bad you feel you can always take solace in the fact that things could be worse. you could be a bassist.
