  • She first broke through in America with Vicky Cristina Barcelona. But even then, she was thinking about directing. 25 movies as an actress later and she finally arrived with her debut as a writer/director. Passing has been haunting audiences thoughts since it landed at the New York Film Festival. And now, Rebecca has been nominated for Best First Time Director of 2021 by the Director’s Guild of America. Rebecca chatted with David Poland about the film and her career.

Its heartbreaking hearing her talk about her mother who passed earlier this year. She partly made it for her. Glad she got to see it before she died. Rebecca did an amazing job with adapting the book. I wish she and the cast got more acknowledgement from award shows. Either way she should be proud of what she was able to achieve. Everyone involve. So good to see Ruth get mention here and there during award season.

Rebecca is not only very attractive but also seems so at ease expressing herself in her brilliant way. I feel so sorry to here she lost her mother so quickly and so soon after her film and finding her roots but happy that she able to share their history together.

Thanks for re-uploading this. I was going to point out that the watermark on your original video said 'Jan. 2020'. I see you fixed it.
Rebecca is a great interview. For anyone wanting more background on why PASSING was so personal and passionate for her, check out the television series "FINDING YOUR ROOTS" with her episode in which Rebecca discovers her African American roots dating back to the 18th Century. It's quite fascinating.

It's heartbreaking hearing such a beautiful girl identifying herself black... guess gotta do whatever you can to try and stand out these days.
Lord knows, there are always gonna be new diversity quotas to fill.
