Jeff, I think that the banana bed with the sunpatiens might be my favorite of all! It is so beautiful! I say give it a go with the Areca Palm! Love that idea, and that kind of opens up a large area to do something fun in! :) My Caerulea passion vines did the same thing the first year I planted them, plenty of growth, no flowers. The next spring - explosive flower show. I think it blooms on mature vines? Just a guess. DEFINITELY GOING TO MISS THOSE MIAMI PLANTERS OVER THE WINTER TOO! GLORIOUS!
Colors played well together. Going to be hard to beat that next year, may just repeat it unless I can think of something really interesting for that spot.
Some of my favorite flowers in the garden, my asters, started blooming about Thursday. They kept blooming through the rain and wind of the hurricane yesterday. This is my favorite time of year because of the cooler weather and the goldenrod and asters that bloom. :)
A houseplant video about surprisingly cold tolerant ones would be very helpful. My bedroom in the winter is cold, the way I love it, it has very wonderful windows for growing plants but I’m afraid to put any in there. Any suggestions would be wonderful ! 🌺💚🙃
Love your cute cats, and your garden looks wonderful. Your refreshing natural style in the garden, and just being fun, laughing when jumbling words. I just love your work.
I can not believe how tall my banana plants are, amazing ! I am so surprised! I moved them to their new location last year so I didn’t expect them to get so huge. The fertilizer sure did help ! 🌺💚🙃
@@TropicalPlantParty I did prefertilize the area before I planted them with sheep mature but probably not enough, I was concerned that I would burn them because it’s not completely composted. I just might throw some down again before I get them ready for winter, not close but close enough so maybe some of the nutrients will leech over. 🌺💚🙃
Oh gosh Jeff, your garden area still looks so pretty, at 38:27 there is that purple plant with your palm tree, in the front and really big and pretty, I had one of those in my house and I really loved it and then it died, probably because it needed more sunlight and being outside instead of inside, but my weather is a little crazy and I don't have an area to put alot of my plants outside. I can't remember it's name, I got it as plant mail from Steve's Leaves. I also noticed that it looks like behind your Palm tree you might have a jacuzzi?? Well thanks again for another great video, have a good weekend, sending love and hugs, bye!! 😊🥰👍👏🙌💜💜💜💜
Im in Wilmington nc, we can grow sable palms and pindo palms very easily, I plant palms trees all along my neighborhood with the neighborhoods permission to plant them in their yards. The reason why I plant in other people's yards is to make the neighborhood look more realistic like they really belong there, and yes it was very expensive to do.😂
As per usual your garden looks AMAZING!😻 Your pairing and layering skills are so awesome. I get so much inspiration from you. I’m slowly but surely building up my tropical paradise.🙌🏼. Much love to you and your fur babies from Los Angeles!
Meh. Depends. If it's just the tips, some people use nail clippers to blunt the tips. If you cut into the softer tissue then it opens a wound and then the plant is suseptible to infection and will heal/callus with a brown line.
@@TropicalPlantParty I MIGHT just cut the very tips off. 🤗 I’m getting old and my skin isn’t as tough as it used to be, if I poked myself on a spine I might bleed out. JK. 🌺💚🙃
They go off to live at a farm in the country with lots of sunshine and waret and tons of new palm tree friends! 😒🫣 just kidding, they get left out and die in the winter. ... they try and sell them off to facilities that have indoor scapes like malls, hospitals etc, but if they're are no takers then they stay outside.
@@TropicalPlantPartyAwe that’s a shame. I would think that there would be a big market for large palm trees, but considering shipping costs ect it might cost more than their worth. 🌺💚🙃
I wish that I could spend more time in my garden through the summer months but it’s full on sun and VERY hot ! I have planted some smallish trees but I think it will take a few years before they will add any decent shade. 🥺🌺💚🙃
@@TropicalPlantPartyI don’t normally like fall because it’s ALWAYS either cloudy or raining, BUT I’m hoping this fall to get my garden cleaned up before winter sets in 🤞🏻🌺💚🙃
Hey Jeff! Your garden looks gorgeous; the 756 impatiens are unbelievable! As are the Gloriosum Taro, which name escapes me… How are your polar green/ pink china growing? So. Arb replacements…. Put your potted bamboo in the ground! COME TO THE DARK SIDE JEFF!!😂 They will mostly grow towards the sun so if you have the open side of the rhizome barrier growing towards the shade I think will help. My garden is looking GORGEOUS! My Musa basjoo did grow out of its funk thanks to your advice, and are currently about 6.5’ tall: Thanks again! I am going to donate my Heliconia psittacorums (which grew unbelievably well, sat in my pondless waterfall) to my local zoo in their Columbian Jungle exhibit. All my Colocasia and Hedychium are amazing; they all grew at a similar rate and seemed to push each other along. And Musa yunnanensis… you need to try it, for where you keep “bush whacking” the basjoo near that door! M. yunnanensis grows way more upright, clumping, and the thin glaucous stem is supposed to die to the ground but not lose vigor, especially with your heat. I
Hey Jeff I was curious about your opinion about planting an Areca palm in zone 8 Atlanta Georgia if I protect it in the winter. I’ve had one for 5 years and it’s starting to get too big to move it in and out. Didn’t know if the ground would be too cold for it even if I protect that outside. I’ve had a big aloe Vera survive last winter and we got down to 15 degrees I just covered it with lights
It would be a challenge, but I dont want to say it's not possible. Areca palms can take light frost, though it will usually damage some fronds and you have to watch for crown rot afterwards for several weeks. They also like things warm, so prolonged temps below 55F or 60F will leave the palm much more susceptible to rot as well. Aloe are great because they can take a good amount of cold, as long as they are kept dry, areca palms don't want to be dry though, they like warmth and humidity. Humidity/moisture and cold are a kiss of death for them. If you were to heat the root mass with heat cables and construct an actual greenhouse around the plant, then it might do ok. ... like I said, it's not impossible, but would be challenging.
Hi Jeff 👋 WOW everything looks WONDERFUL!! 😍 Your new shade bed is coming along good. I wish my Persian Shield would grow that good. 😕 It turns greener and dies early in the year. 😢 (Zone 9b Texas Gulf Coast) Also I have a question please? I bought a Wikiki in Spring and it came in a tiny maybe 2" pot. 1st it acted like it died, then I got 1 leaf, when the 2nd leaf started the 1st died, and thats how it has pretty much been, I have 2 leaves now and the 3rd is starting to unfurl and the oldest 1 died. It is soooo frustrating, I paid a lot for a tiny plug and it may be 8-9" tall now. Pleaseee help me. 🙏 I love that Diamond Frost elephant ear. OMG 😮 The color is absolutely stunning 😍. All the Impatiens are gorgeous 😍 The back up hedge looks good, especially for the time of year with heat and drought. Too bad you couldn't put trellises against the fence with some Star Jasmine. 🤔 I do love the Varigated Birds Nest Fern. Thank you for sharing a full garden tour Jeff. Your gardens are GORGEOUS!! People pay good money to stay in a place that is so lush and tropical with a pool. You take good care of yourself, have an awesome week, and we'll see you Wednesday. 😊
Hey Jennifer! It sounds like it's just going through the motions of establishing a root system. When they are tiny plants they can only support so much foliage and they will sometimes kill off foliage to bring energy back down to the developing root/bulb. It should get it's act together sooner than later if it's pushing 8 or 9 inches. Can always water it with a rooting hormone or stimulator to help kick things off.
Hi Jeff! Pumpkin is so cute and adorable! Your gardens still look so beautiful! I hope your big Queen Palm will still fit in the greenhouse. I love the combinations you come up with. The impations and sweet potato vine combo is so pretty. Could you use lemon coral sedum in place of the sweet potato vine? All of the impations add so much color throughout your garden areas. The Miami planters are so pretty. I will miss the dark purple Alocasia/Colocasia (?), it's such a beautiful big plant. Could you find a different spot for it where it would stand out more? How are the peach trees and lantana standard doing? You haven't talked about them for a long time. The shade garden is coming along nicely. I'll miss seeing the palm trees, but always look forward to seeing them come back. I'm looking forward to seeing you plant up the pots with the new plants. Thank you so much for sharing!

I do get kind of confused, tropical plants live in the heat in their native areas, why do they not like our high temperatures? We’re plenty humid in the summer maybe not rain forest humid but still humid. I don’t set it ? 🧐 🌺💚🙃
That's a lot to get into in the comment section. 😆 A lot of it comes down to something called vpd(vapor pressure deficit) which is a sweet spot between temp, humidity. Essentially there is a sweet spot/range where plants grow best with the temps and humidity being within a certain range of each other. If you google, "vpd growth chart," you can see the graphs and the ranges for temperature and humidity and then how various forms of growth are influenced.
While symmetry is nice sometimes it’s also nice when you don’t have EVERYTHING symmetrical ? Balance yes but not everything the same ? Just my thoughts. 🧐 🌺💚🙃
@@TropicalPlantPartyAlso depending on what it is it may get a little boring ? Or maybe that’s just me ? Not that I love chaos but a change is nice now and then. Sometimes symmetry is need but not always, just something that has the same height to it. And I’m pretty certain that’s just my opinion. 🌺💚🙃
Will be sad to see the palms go back into storage. Seems like you just got them out and in place only a couple months ago.
