I’m really glad wizards is making new cards for classic mtg characters because I’ve only been playing the game for 2 years and don’t know much about these cool older characters. The stories they have are so much more interesting than gatewatch!
Volrath was my favorite character during the Weatherlight saga which is when i started magic. I am so happy he is out as a commander and he will most likely be the main deck i focus on
love how you connect all the cards to the lores. ....been playing magic for more than years but havent really read the books related to them... thumbs up man
Phyrexia was the height magic villains. Their Borg like assimilate and corrupt from with in approach is a great trope in itself. Yawgmoth and volrath are fantastic villains.
This was a really interesting video. I knew Volrath was a wicked bastard, but I didn't know just how wicked he could be until now. As for what lore videos I would like to see, I would really appreciate one for Lim-Dûl the Necromancer. I've always found his story super interesting and necromancers, overall, are my personal favourite type of magic user.
I think that it is really cool, how good Volrath's colors fit his flavor/story/character. His colors are basicly simic+black, so in other words, he is a dark version of simic, which really reflects his character. Simic tries to experiment on and enhance beings, more for their benefit (who is experimented on) and preferably (or only) volunteers, often even experimenting on themselves. Volrath doesn't care, if the being experimented on is volunteering or if it is in pain, he only cares for his own benefits. That all kind of sounds like a black version of simic.
I suppose that it is truely cool, how true Volraths colorings suit his flavorstorycharacter. His colorings are basicly simicblack, so in different words, he is a darkish model of simic, which truely displays his character. Simic tries to scan on and beautify beings, greater for their gain who is experimented on and ideally or solely volunteers, regularly even experimenting on themselves. Volrath doesnt care, if the being experimented on is volunteering or if it is in pain, he solely cares for his very own benefits. That all form of sounds like a black model of simic.
Volrath needs a return arc... You don't become an envincar and not establish some contingency plans in case of your death lol. Maybe even turn it into a redemption. He awakens with no memories but ask the powers... Favorite villain.
The new volrath looks like he is holding some sort of poisonous cell ( - 1/-1 counter) which he implants in his victim. Or he already infected him and this is some sort of cell which he now took out now... enables him to shapshift and get his victims abilities. In the other hand It looks almost like some sort of metal scalpel. Could be that i am totally wrong, however i think it would or at least could fit.
Loved Greven Il-Vec, sad story there to. The flavor txt on his card said it all "Rage is the only freedom left me." and his art was always great. Rath cycle was over all one of the best imo for cards and story.

I'm loving these lore vids. Are ya planning on doing the whole Weatherlight crew as well? I'm very interested to learn what happened to Mirri to cause her to become a vampire, and what kind of a character was she, and stuff.
She was very loyal and secretly in love with Gerrard but quite snarky "cut the bullshit" on the outside. About the vampire thing: In the main timeline she fought the vampire Crovax when he betrayed the crew while they where under attack and they both fell overboard. When she realised Gerrard would endanger himself and the ship trying to help her she let Crovax kill her. In the Planar Chaos block alternate timelines startet to sift into Dominaria. In one of them Mirri managed to kill Crovax but was infected by vampirsm and the madness that drove him to the Phyrexian side, finally taking his place as one of Yawgmoths chief officers. Kinda hope there is a third timeline where she got the happy ending she deserved :-(
He was trying to control the slivers vis the Sliver Queen to use them as weapons, if I recall correctly. As cool as slivers are, it was sort of incidental to the overall story.
My tribes rite to manhood was funneling a whole 2 liter of mountain Dew upside down while the tribe elders punch you in the groin I'm diabetic and have a hernia, but I'm a real man now.

I know that's what I'm doing. I'm going full Vorthos for my Commander projects this year: Greven and the Predator (sort of a voltron-y beatdown deck) versus Sisay and the Weatherlight (legendary tribal, with as many of the crew as I can get my hands on making an appearance). Should be fun. :D
I don't really like infect as a win condition, but it does sort of feel fitting and he's definitely built for it: copy any infect creature and pump his power by 3 and you're already at lethal. Lashwrithe would be pretty on-theme... damn it. Maybe I'll have to make THREE new Commander decks this year. :p
