    In my book, this documentary succeeds where the others failed because it includes younger AFOLs like Matt and Jhae. The other AFOL documentaries I've seen tend to ignore people from their age category and it gives you this impression that Lego as an adult hobby is somehow only for people rediscovering it once they're in their 30's and 40's. The reality is that it's become a thing you can carry with you throughout your entire life, and this demonstrates that for once! Nicely done David!

    Great work David. I think I speak for the whole LEGO community when I say I am very proud and thankful. This documentary let people in on the LEGO community as it really is, and what it is is something to cherish. I've never seen anything quite like the LEGO community, and I don't think I ever will. It's one of a kind. I would also like to personally congratulate you on your recent graduation and of course this great documentary. It's the first major addition to your portfolio as a graduate, and I can't wait to see what you have planned next. Being a film nut myself, I have an enormous amount of respect for you and your work. Keep doing what you love, and we will be watching your career with great interest!

    This is fantastic. There is some really great storytelling in here. I heard people say they wish you, David, were in it more, but I think the fact that you can tell the story heavily without your own commentary shows a talent for bringing a story and documentary together purely through content. Great work and great for the community

    This feels like a special look at an upcoming series of AFOL stories than an actual documentary. We're only hitting bullet points and covering the stuff that LEGO fans already know, which means it's ringing on deaf ears. I feel like we should be spending more time with these people and really get to know their stories more to understand why they are fans and why they continue to be fans. What brought them in? What makes their LUG special? Why do they go to the convention? Why do they not go? Do they go hardcore into building original stuff they think up, or do they try to replicate things from the real world or from books, movies, and shows? What about the constraction fans? What about the diehard purists? What about the people that make whatever they want with whatever they want and cut pieces, paint parts, use third party stuff, etc.? There's a whole wide range of topics that are being missed and no documentary can ever capture it all, but if this were a documentary series where you focus on one or two people that share similar viewpoints per installment it can become a clearer picture of what the AFOL community is and what it is about.

    • @SolidBrixStudios
      @SolidBrixStudios  5 лет назад

      MCLegoboy I appreciate this kind of feedback. And I definitely agree with a lot of the points you make. I had visited and interviewed 23 people with only 10 making the final cut. But there were tens of hours of footage that ultimately got cut. When filming I thought I could cover all the little things in the community all in one film, truth is you can’t without loosing people. I like your idea of a series, that’s where it could work a lot better for covering all the details. Maybe one day my man ;)

    Very interesting documentary david, i liked the idea of this film although i just think it was lacking in some senses. Firstly, i think the film was rather poorly constructed, the transitions were rather drastic and i think if you were to have made the guests answer the same or atleast similar questions through each transition, it would have been much more cohesive. And/or like most documentaries, i would've liked to have the interviews for each individual guest all in one piece, seperate from each other and not scattered through out. And lastly, the interviews themselves were pretty lacking. Not only were the guests saying pretty much the same thing for a large chunk of the film about the "nerdy" connotation that being an afol has, but also the interviews themselves didnt really reveal anything new that i did not already know or had assumed about them. Over all the quality of the documentary was on spot, but it really could have been more cohesive and definetly much longer.

Therefore I think it could be a longer movie, but better that is a shorter and good movie rather than a too long film, that nobody want to see. 😄👍 thumbs up!!

    I think this is awesome, i’m still a teenager but i’ve been watching your channel for many years and as a lego enthusiast i often find myself having to hide my sets when guests are over or else risk being embarrassed about them.
    And that shouldn’t be the case, LEGO is a fantastic way to formulate creativity and ingenuity.
    My dream is to one day see or even create a Bladerunner moc, because i’m fascinated by that universe and those films.
