Thank you for watching! It's always cringy to admit where we started, but what matters is where we're going! What's a lesson you've learned in your time as a teacher, or your biggest takeaway from this video? I'd love to hear what you plan on trying in your classroom! 😉

Actually i am not teaching yet. But here in my country we have an intense political war between two factions in a particular historical event of ours..
It happened 35 to more than 50 years ago. And history teachers/educators are pointed as one of the factors that causes this confusion... as fake news heavily circulates as a propaganda of certain politicians to battle what has been written as the "dark part of our history" and romanticize it for the new generation.

@@balitabape Are you sure you're not talking about the United States because this is the demon that plagues us as well🤦‍♀️. People that do not want to face the horror of the past are determined to find ways to erase it. Our jobs matter so much more than we sometimes realize. Teaching History Matters and can change the course of our future!💕 I'm sure you're going to be an amazing teacher! Thank you for being here! 😊

Serious question, what is the difference between a “lecture” on a topic of history and a podcast? I listen to a ton of history podcasts, they mostly consist of people talking (lecturing) about a given topic. Perhaps they might have a second person who is part of the podcast and they have more discussion, but again, what is the real difference.

Hi! To answer your question, a podcast is the tool by which information is disseminated, while lecture is the method. There can be podcasts that you mentioned are interviews, some are more Socrates style discussions based on analyzing big ideas or questions. Lectures are sharing your knowledge and understanding of a topic.

Big mistake in progressive education. You think it is all about the teacher. In classical education, it is not about the teacher but the Author. Do you want Julius Ceaser as your teacher or a certified teacher? Do you want Socrates as a teacher or some teacher with a Masters in Education. You haven't figured out the Progressive Education system was designed to turn out workers not philosophers. The problem with history is a text book designed by the Rockefeller Foundation. Thomas Jefferson read Thucydides. You're using McGraw Hill..The McGraw Hill building is right next to Rockefeller Plaza.

Hi! Thank you for your feedback! I completely agree! Sadly, as employees of public school systems we do not dictate or control what curriculum is used in schools---voters and the government do. As a historian, I am well aware of the purpose of the education system and sincerely hope more amazing viewers like you continue to advocate for the changes that we as teachers have been screaming into an empty echo chamber for years. Because of the constraints of our job, I have dedicated this channel to helping teachers do the best they can with the decisions that are often made for them against their professional judgment. It would be great to hold higher standards for all students, sadly, not all students have the resources or parental involvement that would allow them to come prepared to learn a more classically geared education, nor does the government support us with the resources needed for this. Still, I appreciate you taking the time to share your ideas.

I hate how much people criticize lecturing. Guess what? This video is lecturing. This whole fad to 'fix' tried and true methods that work.

    • @TheGamePlanEduSolutions

Your opinion is totally valid. Lecturing works great for some folks, but having over a decade of experience in teaching, most children can not sit and listen to a person talk for 55 minutes. This video is about 10 minutes and includes visuals throughout. Younger children overall require breaks to discuss, and process what they are hearing and hopefully seeing too. I enjoy lectures myself, but that isn't everyone's learning style. Experienced educators teach to their students learning style and show students how to adjust to learning styles they're not naturally inclined to. Thank you for sharing your opinion 👍🙂

I guess the difference is, we are adults. She's teaching adults who are in search of this information. Kids are not searching for information, so they don't retain it as well as we do.
