interesting to hear of these guys again, from what ive gathered they were part of the original legions of first edition and might be considered one of original 20, but since that opens the possibility that they might have something to do with 2 or 11 its not something thats likely to ever be explored very deeply , not any time soon anyway. the ultramarines have a tendency to absorb the remnants of other lost chapters so even if this is the case its not outside the realm of possibility that their lineage is still around somewhere. though none of this explains what actually happened to them
I find it interesting how whenever there is art or a story involving Sisters of Battle vs Space Marine we always assume the Marine is corrupt and the Sister is in the right. Why? They're just mortals. Sisters of Battle can be lied to, led astray and corrupted just as easily as any normal human. The meme is that they're too pure of heart to be corrupted, but in the lore they get corrupted to Chaos all the time and the Inquisition uses technicalities and clever phrases to cover it up. Same with Grey Knights and falling to Chaos - they do, its happened in the lore, the Inquisition just uses technicalities to cover it up.
To start with, the Rogue Trader book didn't have Chaos in it. In fact, Chaos, in its current form, didn't really exist in Fantasy yet either. Chaos would be introduced a few years later with the Realm of Chaos books. At the time, Rogue Trader didn't have many races and most of the models were imperial, only the Imperials had tanks, so in practice most fights would be between Space Marines vs Space Marines. Thus they had to provide justification as to why Imperials would fight other Imperials, the Badab War is the best example of this and it originates in Rogue Trader (and why I think later editions didn't have more conflicts like it, since there were plenty of non Imperial factions to pick fights against). The Imperium was also supposed to be far different from the current version, more like the Holy Roman Empire, a balkanized empire with many squabbling rulers fighting each other.
Nah, they sank into the warp after some chaotic agents with outrageous accents posed as tourists and planted mines inside the hull of their battle barge. Some say their former Chapter Master also fell to Chaos, and he currently enjoys drinking polluted water and denying the existence of the Cicatrix Maledictum, blaming poor communications with the rest of the Imperium on solar activity, and also claming there is no scientific proof that Cadia even existed.
Well there's always the failed penitent crusade option, their holdings and accolades are confiscated until they prove their loyalty crusading, but the chapter gets wiped out before they succeeded

After a long search, I found the final most recent communication from a Rainbow Warrior. It goes: "I am Alpharious." Consequently, it was traced to a world where an Alpha Legion outpost was said to have been.
Simple, they're Lost. We know that Rogal and Roboute insisted that the marines should not be sacrificed as their Lost brothers were. The result was that they were folded into the Ultramarines & Imp Fists in total secrecy. Several founding's later the Rainbow Warriors were formed. Their gene-seed exclusively from one of the Lost Legions and, much like the Blood Ravens, they recognised their true history was hidden. Unfortunately their investigations into their own past raised the attention of the Inquisition, who also discovered this and they took action. Simply deleting a chapter would draw attention so they have been slowly edited out of official records. The marines themselves sent on a penitent crusade, assumed destroyed in the Great Maelstrom. Mystery solved... For now!

Outside of lore, I suspect they might have decided to retire them to avoid legal disputes with the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football team. Even if you haven't heard of the team, their home field Aloha Stadium was the home of the NFL Pro Bowl for decades.
The Rainbow Warriors are not a chapter from an unknown founding or a Ultramarine successor chapter. They were a first founding legion, the 2nd Legion. I can not remember the name of the 11th legion but it started with a D. A friend of mine had a bunch of Rogue Trader source and rule books from 87 to 89, in one of them it listed the names of all 20 legions but not there Primarchs names.
I have a crazy theory but hear me out I reckon because they were so few members of the rainbow warriors left alive and they were very experienced in fighting demonic entities they may have just been rolled into the grey knights
It's obvious what happened to the remaining marines, they were pulled into the warp and dropped in the mid 1980s and, feeling as though they'd failed, decided to be Takeshi Kitano's 'army' for Takeshi's Castle!
There are is also a possibility that something happen of such magnitude that chapter was reformed and renamed. Fists Exemplars or Angel Penitent are such examples.
They were caught in a warp storm and were dropped on old earth in M2 on a series of inhabited islands. The warp had also sapped their powers and as a result they could only find work playing an ancient sport called “football” for the higher education facility of said islands.
It would be fun if these guys were the canon versions of the meme marines. Raptors are the reasonable marines. Black Templars are the angry marines. Clowns are pretty colorful and the Rainbow Warriors backstory is horrific enough.
Depends on the number of situations that could occur, including that they have tasked themselves upon a penitent crusade & news in Imperium is rather spotty at best so, a who knows type of mystery.
My theory is they're the children of one of the lost legions (Legion 2). Officially they're Ultramarines successors, yes, but consider that after the fall of legions 2 an 11, the Ultramarines got a considerable number boon. How do we know those aren't the sons of those primarchs? After a few of the foundings, the children of 2 and 11 among Guilliman's own ask if they can have their own chapter/chapters. Which is eventually granted, resulting in a few others, my current belief is that the Sons of Malice and Red Scorpions are the sons of primarch 11 as well. So the Imperium finds out about the Rainbow Warriors' true ancestry, attempts to purge them, and forces what remains to go into hiding. This is why another chapter, Death Strike, has similar colors and heraldry. This is them rebranding and pretending to be Dorn's sons to bolster their forces again.
The Rainbow Warriors were "acquired" by some faction or organization within the Imperium and completely reassigned. Likely some Spec ops variant such as being strictly on Anti-Choas detail. This might be a fate of similarly decimated Chapters, whose bits and pieces are gathered up into some designate Chapter whose main function is to fight Choas. Why waste good combat experience? And because the IoM is keen to keep the existence of Choas as much one the down low as possible, the RWs had to ultimately disappear.
They were banished from canon because a chapter with "rainbow" in their name doesn't fit within GWs precious Alter of Grimdarkness, upon which all must be sacrificed.
maybe they lost so many Brothers that there just weren't enough of them left to reasonably rebuild the chapter. and Prism was just given to a newly founded Primaris chapter.
It isn't mysterious. They found a new chaos god and, alongside the Dark Mechanicum, established one of the most successful snack manufacturing corporations in history of the Imperium. I know it’s been three years, but I’d love to see those sources for the Rainbow Warriors being one of the founding legions.
That sounds awesome.
Slaanesh is pleased with this colour scheme.
Clowns are pretty colorful and the Rainbow Warriors backstory is horrific enough.
...how the fuck do you "confiscate" a planet.
Typically by sending the Minotaurs chapter

What's the deal with the Fire Lords chapter? Are they renegades/traitor or something?
They got lost in the warp and became the legion of the damned some say
Depends on the number of situations that could occur, including that they have tasked themselves upon a penitent crusade & news in Imperium is rather spotty at best so, a who knows type of mystery.
We're here because Dadornable, aren't we?
They're on campaign on Retcon Primus
It hurts my brain to look at the magazine placement on those bolters.
Rainbow Warriors...? These guys are from the University of Hawai'i...? Go 'bows! XD
They were banished from canon because a chapter with "rainbow" in their name doesn't fit within GWs precious Alter of Grimdarkness, upon which all must be sacrificed.
A shame really.
The rainbow warriors were disbanded because their new chapter master 6ix9ine went to prison.
A certain lobby and protest group complained to the Inquisition (Games Workshop) and they were disbanded and deleted from records.
Probably bombed by some french enclave in a clandestine operation.
maybe they lost so many Brothers that there just weren't enough of them left to reasonably rebuild the chapter. and Prism was just given to a newly founded Primaris chapter.
Very cool update.
Anyone got a link for the book at 6:44 ?
