Years back, Micah, we used a similar formula --- We mixed tallow with spruce sap --- the sap helped to change the smell and the texture of the emollient ---- Our sets and trap lines benefited, too --- I'm far past my furring days but young Joel has his days all before him -- We used to say as we ran our sets "Always Count Your Blessing and Then Count Your Fingers !" -- (VICTOR No.8 Double Springs were unforgiving ) --- Please Pray For The USA
That was a really great idea ! I wouldn't have thought to do that with the fat . Deer hunting is far from being free now with all the costs that go along with it . Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day !
Fat is actually so good for people also!! Why do you think the birds love it so much!! Natural deer and elk etc meat & fat is hormone and antibiotic free and way better to cook with than any processed seed or vegetable oil that most people rush out to buy at the store and it’s slowly killing them…. Use animal fat!! Research it… don’t just listen to what you hear go research it and eat it and see how much better you feel!!! Great idea to use for leather treatment /soap etc!! Thank you for the video!!
Fun fact, my dad who grew up back in the depression said they used to render possum fat for leather…. He said it worked real good. I’ve never tried it. Good video MM! Happy New Year!
I just wanted to again say how much I appreciate your channel, your family, and Frank. I also want to covet your prayers. On Wednesday the 4th I will be joining Frank's club. Two of my stents are blocked and I'll be having double bypass surgery. To complicate things I've had type 1 diabetes for 53 years and hva the beginnings of kidney disease. God has been good most people would have succumbed a long time ago. I know He is able to do above and beyond what we can imagine. Please pray for me and my bride Juanita as we face this together. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the kind words and rest assured that our prayers are with you during this trying time! We really appreciate you and pray God’s blessings on you and your wife!
I LOVE your cowboy boots, McGie!! I've LOVED cowboy boots since I was little! I have a broken-in brown pair with a more pointed toe and stitching on the toe. I wear mine with loose jeans, jerseys and even shorts!! I LOVE the stitching on the toe of cowboy boots. I think it makes them stand out more. I LOVE how they make me look taller. I'm 5'10" and I wear size 12. Cowboy boots need their own paid holiday!! :) :) I feel the SAME way you do about cowboy boots! 👍😎😊👊 I want a black pair next, maybe with the metal toe taps on them!! Can't wait!!
Fun fact, you do want that going in your arteries. It is much more soluble in blood than pork or beef fat and has high amounts of steric acid that raise good cholesterol and help reduce bad cholesterol 👍
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I know it doesn’t seem intuitive but a lot of times old wives tales come from trying to use intuition in place of science. I’ve had to do a TON of digging to get passed all the intuition articles online about what kinds of fat are best. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19939984/ Soy bean oil is another saturated fat high in steric acid so this articles is more like comparing apples to apples in a sense. There hasn’t been much research on venison fat specifically but following the science it does seem to be much better for you than other animal fats and especially trans fats and other TFAs. Being wild game, there is no way of controlling their diet which means sometimes the fat is going to taste gamey, go rancid faster, and even be non-existent. Rendering it like you did is one way to reduce the “mouthfeel” that most people hate and make it shelf stable so it won’t go rancid but another amazing application is soap.. once again because of the high levels of steric acid that is great for your skin.
I’ve heard bear fat is very good for leather treatment as well so I had an feeling that may had been where you were going with it! I was blessed w a pretty fat doe myself this year but hadn’t thought about this at that time.
That is a lot of fat, makes me think she lost or didn't carry a fawn, great info my friend, been using linseed oil for years but I can see how this could be better.
I usually render my fat in a crock pot on low,,now worries about burning the fat and I don’t have to watch it so close, besides I don’t have a wood stove
That's a great idea with a fat deer. Completely natural product that will benefit that leather for a long time. Thanks for sharing Brother! Have a good day.
You're a good dad look after your boys boots like that that's a good thing and I guess if you know anything about native Americans they never wasted any of it they used everything even the sinew to tie the arrowheads on they use the whole bloody deer and the whole bloody buffalo bones and all so yeah you could say free but like you said everything cost that's why you use the whole thing 😁👌😉🐝
Great content!! Anyone have a old recurve bow they don't want anymore? I'm a avid archer but never got a deer with a recurve or longbow yet. Just trying to use all bows. Let me know!! Thanks
@McGieHomesteadAdventures yes sir. Love every sec. And useing all the deer is fantastic!! I forgot about the waterproofing. Thanks for the awesome reminder!!

Those were the really good old days! Trapping and doing all that is involved with it!!!
I have heard spruce sap is good to keep mosquitos away .never tried it though.

Thanks brother! I’m happy to share! It’s a lot of fun!
We use our deer fat to feed the tweety birds all winter, the woodpeckers seem to really enjoy it. Nice video as always.
Deer fat absolutely makes great suet!

I wear the exact same pair of Lacrosse boots. Got them on clearance at Bargain Hunt in Franklin, TN for 40 bucks sometime in I think 2017 or 2018.
David really likes these! Good boots!
Great job water proofing the boots hope the boys have fun trapping thank you for sharing
Thanks brother!!!
This is such a good idea. I’m glad you pointed out at the end how cheap it was to hunt deer. Thanks Micah
It’s definitely something that non-hunters don’t understand!
Thank you McGie I did not know that always learning on your Channel

Thanksfor sharing I can’t believe I’ve never thought about this god bless you and your family
It works really good brother!
I wish I had thought that when I was back in IN, the deer up there are always fat. I noticed the lack of fat on these deer.
I’m thinking there’s more corn and soybeans in Indiana…… but maybe it’s also the colder winter
Fun fact, my dad who grew up back in the depression said they used to render possum fat for leather…. He said it worked real good. I’ve never tried it. Good video MM! Happy New Year!
I’m making possum sausage today with that wonderful fat!🤪
Agreed, another very informative how to
Thanks brother!

A good broke in pair of boots is very hard to replace! It pays to take care of them!
Good video brother And a happy, healthy new year to you all. Tight lines and happy hunting. 👍🏻
Thanks brother! Happy New Year!

You’re the second person that has mentioned that……. Sounds odd but I definitely can’t argue against it!

@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I’ve been using mink oil for years but I am definitely going to try this. Thank you sir.
Oh it's freeing for sure. Frees you of money but keeps the freezer full. 🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
Is the guy that voices Hank Hill?
😂😂😂 I’ve been told that a thousand times 😂😂😂
Never tried that before. My daddy used to put Mink oil on his RedWing boots. Thanks again McGie family. What's ole Frank doing today?
Frank just finished lunch and took off! He was helping me with a couple ducks that are going into sausage!🫢 oops future video alert😂
You are hilarious my man, keep it up 😂🎉
Thanks man, I appreciate it!

I think you’re right…. No fawn this past year. Lots of fat indeed!
Great video and yes freedom isn't free
It’s very true and something the younger generation needs to understand!
I usually render my fat in a crock pot on low,,now worries about burning the fat and I don’t have to watch it so close, besides I don’t have a wood stove
Crock pot is perfect!
bear fat is best because its really long shelf life. and the grease won't spoil as easy.
That’s awesome!
Don’t leave those boots around your dog😂
😂😂😂

I think it’s really awesome! Maybe better than the store bought products!
ANOTHER VERY INTERESTING VIDEO
I’ll have to try that we get fat deer up here 🇨🇦
Yes indeed!
I like making deer bacon when I kill a real fat deer. It is very delicious. You have to slice it thin and fry it crispy. It is so good
I’m thinking about trying it!
Do you store it in a freezer to avoid it becoming rancid over time?
No, it’s hard as a rock, I’ve got some I’ve had 10 years….. still perfect
Good job, just don't leave your boots out on the porch, squirrels will eat em up 😄
That’s definitely a fact!😂😂😂
😊
Deer fat is CHEAP/EXPENSIVE! lmao
😂😂😂 the final take is priceless!😂
It would be good to wax bow strings with too.
That’s a very good point!
Awesome
Thanks!

Good morning brother!!
@McGie Homestead Adventures morning I left you a question last night on your pokeberry video. By chance you see it?
No I’ll go look for it!
Why dont you mix it with ground deer meat to make juicy burgers! Fat is good for you.
I use pork fat and beef fat for sausage.
