What a delightful visit with all three of you. Talk about sitting at the feet of masters. Jelle and Xavier thank you so much for the gift of your time with Peter.
Loved this. A great interview and time spent with Peter, for whom I have a great deal of respect and affection. I have had the pleasure to meet him twice and found him welcoming and most gracious. It must be incredible to be able to step out and have that courtyard of bonsai trees and the land immediately on the doorstep. Xavier having a fan-boy moment at around 8:28 😂😊
I am 56 years old, and I just started my journey in the bonsai world. Mr. Peter Chan is responsible for helping me gain confidence and technical information. He is really helping the bonsai community, especially beginners like me.
It's thanks to Peter that I started bonsai. In France, bonsai influencers say "you can't grow indoor it's not gonna work because trees grow outside" ; "you can't do this, you can't do that" and because of these words I was about to abandon this art. Two years later I'm proud to say that I've proven they were wrong and Peter was right! Even though I haven't produced "art" yet, it's growing and maybe one day I'll be able to say "this is my art, this is what I've been trying to achieve all these years". Huge respect to Peter even though there are people out there shitting on him for his methods (which I'm not always ok with but I still pay respect to him) and don't let people restrict you from doing what you want with your trees, pay attention to their advices but don't let them force you to do anything.
Thank you Peter your words are so inspiring I’m 63 and through watching you on RUclips I have been so enjoying my Bonsai journey my collection is mostly garden centre material and even growing trees from seeds your knowledge and expertise is to me and surely to others invaluable and now I’m retired yes I have much time I must say I also take a lot of what Kevin Wilson said become a student of nature to me this is the best advice when you do take time to go to forest settings and National parks stop look and take in what a wonderful world we have so thank you Peter for being such a inspiration to me and others you are and always will be mr Bonsai ❤
My appreciation for this beautiful human being just spiraled exponentially! I've been watching his videos for almost two years. Such wisdom and strong insight!
I had heard a lot of varied opinions but actually meeting him and seeing the quality of trees he has produced...that are not from his RUclips collection...reminded me that he knows a lot about this hobby. Great day
Hope you have been to his place and base your opinion on an actual visit. I try to keep my mind open and not listen too much to what is said online. I for one very much like the work he does. And his career speaks for him I would say.

Sir Peter, your wisdom speaks for my heart.I felt so happy just watching & listening to you & your journey. Bonsai is such a creative way not only to survive but to learn from the wisdom of nature
Peter is such a great conveyor of information. I came across him during lockdown and it changed the way I approached bonsai. I keep making mistakes but I get much more enjoyment from the process and try far more things in the garden. Thanks Peter
Great interview! With a heap of knowledge as usual. I started watching peter just as covid struck. Hands down best thing to ever have happened. Got me through some really shitty times out here and jumpstarted my bonsai and garden beyond what i could have imagined. Thanks for the interview.

If a bonsai professional with many more years of experience than I advises me on how to grow my trees, I think the wisest thing to do would be to listen to him and not do whatever I want under the pretext that everyone should enjoy bonsai as they want or make them happy. Many times this advice from more experienced people is to avoid discouragement in our first steps in this hobby. @@GrowingBonsai You will my friend, you will in time. I know Peter personally well enough to see some common traits in you. Wish you well in your journey, will observe keenly and keep learning.
Yes, quite a man this Peter Chan... And quite a life! I'm following him on his RUclips channel for many years already. There was a documentary about him on BBC to. And I learned a lot from him and his approach of this beautiful hobby. Which is, by the way, quite a totally different story compared to a commercial nursery, we should not forget about that (I think). What do you think, Jelle? Do you see similarities between his approach and yours? I do think there are a few but that's only my opinion...
Dificult one! I think he and I both feel that there are more ways to do bonsai than people doing it. And even though a specific route might not be mine, it does not mean it is not a valid one. But his wisdom and knowledge seems to surpass many. RUclips is a bad medium and often does nto reflect the true abilities of a person.
@@GrowingBonsai Interesting. RUclips a bad medium? Maybe. But also a good medium that opens many possibilities for many, I think. As Peter Chan once said: "It's a blade with two sharp edges"... Anyway, I see kind of a main and rather important similarity between the two of you. You both, in fact, are trying to "de-mystify" the world of bonsaï and trying to create one. You both are trying to show that in fact anybody can do this or at least give it a shot, be it with a wide range of possible results. Which, by the way, is my goal too... It's really not all that difficult to a certain level. Keep up the good work, mr Jelle; you almost have 40 K abonnees! I do not think they all value RUclips as a bad medium...😉 Neither will the almost 400 K abonnees from "Herons"... That's my guess. Personally I hope, that discovering and enjoying bonsaï will be a true blessing for anyone. I salute you because you are obviously helping and encouraging many, as Peter Chan does.
I am soon to turn 80 so it may seem strange to my friends that I still search for interesting things to learn. I have watched your RUclips videos for many years. My husband and I also have enjoyed bonsai displays at conservatories and public gardens. A few years ago our daughter was given a finely cut delicate and beautiful Japanese maple. The person who gave it said it would not grow for her and always looked like it was dying. It grew into a wonderful specimen and I desired to have one like it. I tried air layering a very small branch but since I had never done that before, I failed to scrape the surface deeply enough. Even so, eventually there were a few small roots. I cut it off and potted it and placed it in the ground for the winter. That was two years ago so next spring I may try to put it into a bonsai pot. This year, my daughter’s tree produced several sports of a different color and leaf cut. She disposed of those and I told her to save for me any others that presented. Shortly, a strong large branch grew and I air layered it. I was amazed how many roots it produced. I cut it off and potted it. I also dipped the trimmings in rooting hormone to see how many small trees I will get. Who knows if I will ever be able to produce an artful specimen but I have enjoyed watching God help me multiply his provision. Thank you for your inspiration. Sincerely, Diana Williams Dianawilliamsportraits.com

Nice one Jelle, so pleased you went to see Peter.
it was great!
You have done good work here. Thank you 🙏
So nice of you, glad you liked this!
You guys made him look so small! That must have been amazing to meet Peter!!
Yeah, noticed that too afterwards. We had a great day with him!

Lovely human!🙏
he is!
Sincerely, Diana Williams
