I love both themes for Scrap Brain Zone but this version always stuck in my head more growing up..while both had that industrial feel the GG/MS song had a castle conquering style vibe that fit the final stretch for any game. The MS/GG Zone even had its own door maze just to get to Robotnik. I hear this and think "Final Level"...they really nailed the tone.
Crazy how you can watch the master waveform get modulated by extra instruments in order of register. Kick, bass, midrange instruments, dingy bell instruments, snare, hihats.
How does one mod the master system to use an FM chip? Does it already have one or does the PSG already have the capability to act as a frequency-modulator-type chip? I'm asking this because almost all electronic devices these days use highly advanced PSGs to produce sound to speakers simply because they are cheaper to make than the older MIDI or FM chips. I read somewhere that older PSGs are able to imitate FM chips for a short, yet still substantial, time before needing to be retired from use.
In short, only in Japan. The option to add FM sound was first available via an add on for the Sega Mark 3 (the original release of the Master System), and later built-in to the Master System Mk. 2000. However, the capability for FM sound was left behind when the console reached overseas markets. It is actually possible to mod an American Master System to restore this functionality, though it should be noted that FM sound is something game developers had to go out of their way to add, and seeing as the US didn’t have it, no American games will support it. You can play imported games via a cartridge adapter though (or aftermarket cartridges like repros and flash carts). On a somewhat related note, while the Master System’s PSG channels can’t replicate FM in any way, they *can* be used as a DAC to play back short (and rather low quality) audio samples. Nicole Express has a great blog post that goes into the specifics if you feel so inclined.
when the brain is scrapped:

I love when I see/hear songs that use 1-channel echo in melodies and arpeggios, and this is a great example of this

I have a question, the master channel also makes noise?
The "Master" channel is just to show what all the channels look like mixed together
