CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Sidney (Neve Campbell) and her friends discuss the gory details of another student's recent murder.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Scream is at once a slasher film and a tongue-in-cheek position paper on the "dead teenagers" movies of the late 1970s/early 1980s that plays as half-parody, half-tribute. Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is having a rough time lately: she's still getting over the brutal rape and murder of her mother a year ago, and now one of her friends (Drew Barrymore) has been killed by a lunatic who harassed her with terrifying phone calls, then stabbed her to death while wearing a Halloween costume. Soon Sydney is receiving similar phone calls, quizzing her on the arcane details of such films as Friday the 13th and Prom Night, and is attacked by the same cloaked maniac. With her father missing, she has hardly anyone on her side except her best friend Tatum (Rose McGowan) and Tatum's brother Dewey (David Arquette), a half-bright cop. As for the murderer, it could be any number of people: Syd's father; her cute but overly intense boyfriend Billy (Skeet Ullrich); Tatum's goofball boyfriend Stuart (Matthew Lillard); or Randy (Jamie Kennedy), who works at the local video store and seems to like horror movies just a little too much. Much like Halloween, Scream spawned a series of sequels and inspired a large number of similar films -- its original working title, Scary Movie, became the title of the 2000 parody film by Damon Wayans.

tired of people claiming they figured out the killers early. if you saw the movie today, for the first time..sure it might be possible. but back then the idea of TWO killers instead of one didn't even enter most people's minds.. the double killers was a complete shock
geddoe316 I KNOW RIGHT!
godd 100%
@@nerdy8951 It was the same for me. I always suspected that Billy was the killer. I'll admit that I never thought that there were two killers(and that Stu was one of them) but I suspected Billy as soon as I saw this scene.
Maybe not the first time but rewatching it, it’s pretty obvious...
This movie was groundbreaking. Literally changed horror.
Billy looked like he was on edge that Stu would blow their cover lmao
True and at 1:27 when he said "Nobody said you did" he's thinking, you did.....but no one said you did so SHUT UP lol
@@raw_riot_6917 When I saw Scream and once I heard Billy say that, it was pretty obvious to me who the killer(or KILLERS)might be.
Greg and the stare billy has after he says it
Stu was an idiot. That's why I'm glad they didn't go with their original idea for Scream 3, with Stu orchestrating a revenge from his prison cell
lol i know right stu this is why your just a sidekick
So this is what Shaggy does when he isn't hanging out with Scooby and the gang.

Lol, Shaggy and Paige Matthews?

I don't think it's possible to look any more '90s cliche than these guys do
edit: yes everyone I get that they did it on purpose, this comment is 6 years old lol
This movie screams 90s era too all movies have a certain style that screams what era they are made in
Shane Arnold I think that was the point.
@@screamrad218 Exactly. The filmmakers have said that that was their intention. For the movie to be very much a product of it's time. Scream is a good movie but it was never meant to be a TIMELESS movie. It's very much intentionally, a movie of it's time and era.
Billy usually just got on a white t and jeans, and one of my friends has that as his default fit.
yeah it has that "Clueless" vibe don't it?
Billy's facial expression at 1:28 really screams "STFU UR GONNA GET US CAUGHT" awesome foreshadowing
You would literally have to know they were the killers to notice the small details but a lot of times the clues are right in front of us
Yeah but at the same time it’s a double entendre. He wants to look like a good bf and tell Stu to shut up considering Sidney’s mom got murdered and she’s right there. This falls apart tho when Sidney talks to Billy in the hall.
😊😊😊
I'm watching it on tv now and I just caught on.
0:50 And Here
"tact" was used to give an impression to tell Stu he should be more sensitive around what he says to not upset sidney, but really doubling to signal Stu to not give them away. Really great choice of words.
@RainbowDreams30 what does it mean lol
Did you see his eyes widening when he said it
@@loonylupin5126 Means social skills basically. The ability to not put your foot in your mouth and say things that hurt peoples feelings
True
I love the part when the principal says, "Remember kids, your principal loves you."
Haha yeah I bet he does
You know it's a lie
Not enough for the kids at the party to celebrate him hanging from the Football goal post later in the movie
@@calfman3333 to be fair those were the kids he expelled
I can’t see that part?
The chemistry between all five of them is spectacular
Agreed, this scene also is so intriguing to me because the clues were really just being told through non verbals as well as verbal communication.
Scream is so perfectly casted. Everyone did an amazing job
Agreed especially that Matthew man
Yes the first film was lightning in a bottle. None of the other films have that. A masterpiece
I just loved the way they played with Billy as killer. From the beginning, they make you think he's definitely the killer. Then his alibi is proved, furthermore, he gets fake stabbed, and then you think "nah, he's definitely not the killer". And he actually turns out to be the killer. Lol.
That was the point. The real twist was Stu because nobody suspected two killers.
I had a feeling it was Stu all along when Stu was talking about gutting a deer. Billy was the surprise to me
@@Blackout.1644 In that criteria, Randy is the biggest suspect. Also, boys pretend to be excited about violence and blood play to irritate and play with girlfriends.
I always had a strong feeling it was billy but the movie did such a good job of making me doubt that decision
Yea but they do cheat a bit with Billy being fake stabbed. They literally were performing for no one lol. They even had Sidney trapped alone in a room.
Look at Billy and Stu’s clothing. They are both wearing black boots and dark jeans. That was was the killers were wearing during their murder spree.
Stu was not wearing black jeans but your right
@@cowboys_central8149 he said dark jeans
columbine
Little clues there.
Also the way that Stu is going on about how they were completely hollowed out.
Skeet feels so disassociated in this scene. His body language, looking away, and leaning on the fountain, makes him seem secluded. I don't know if Wes intended this but it feels like a strong hint that he was the killer.
I Agree
I think it was intentional. He only really seemed to like Stu in that group, while pretending to love Sidney
And, I think other scenes purposely point the finger in his direction, only for his "death" to serve as more of a surprise, even more than his overnight stay in jail
@@robbirob557 Fr I can’t believe I didn’t notice
Youre corny. You had no clue.
Nah I didn't kill anybody " nobody said you did "
Shaggy would never kill someone
pringelsthegamefreak After too many Scooby Snacks he probably would.
Matt Gerrish lol xD
But jughead's dad would (Riverdale :D)
LoL I knew him as Stu first I thought he’d kill everyone in Scooby gang lol
Besides it takes a man to do something like that
And Sidney is the only one of the five here to survive.
If you mean this movie alone, what about Randy?
I was in reference to the entire franchise, but this movie is far superior to all the sequels so if you ignored them I'd not think less of you.
Rafe Taylor I've seen 1-3.
And also randy till part two
aka.... final girl?
"Nobody said YOU did" it was right in front of my face.
That’s what I said
Mood Forever Billy’s basically saying “yeah ofc you didnt cuz i did”
1:29 “nobody said you did”
You can see Billy's eyes like saying “Shut the hell up, Stu”
I love how aware & stressed out Billy was every time Randy spoke out about the killing towards Stu.
Skeet Ulrich is such a good actor, why don't we see him more often on movies nowadays?
JUAN 12345 cause he’s on Riverdale
Cuz movies suck nowadays.
After scream he never blew up simple as that
Because hollyweird sucks! They put overrated actors instead of talented ones
@@MrParkerman6 Ain't that the truth. It's all Marvel and Fast and furious bs.
“Nobody Said You Did”
*gives him the most obvious shut the f up* look ever 💀
Billy was basically saying “yea ofc you didn’t cuz I did”
Stu is like that one guy who can't keep secrets safe
@LastDebt555 Probably because stew couldn't kill casey, since he's still at feelings for her and he letted billy killed her for him But he would have no problem, killing Steve whatsoever. So obviously, steve's killer was still while casey's killer was billy.
Is it me or does Mathew lillard play a perfect 90’s tool bag
Matthew Lillard rules
He's spot on. My high school was full of guys like this.
he plays a perfect *Shaggy*
Tactical Crusader I can imagine especially in the 90s
@@tacticalcrusader3709 Bullshit they probably weren't as cool as he was.
Stu and Billy are the only ones not wearing color. They're both wearing grey which is meant to be an emotionless color.
When Billy drops his phone next to sid he's wearing black which is a darker more guilty color.
But when we see him at the police department hes wearing white which symbolizes innocence so it can subconsciously make us think he's not the killer
Smart way of looking at it tbh
The detail in this movie 😍
lol no need to overthink and over project to find brilliance in it
@@xLordOfNothingx but it's true, Wes Craven literally did this intentionally. The movie is filled with little, nearly unnoticeable, details like this that foreshadow Stu and Billy being psychopaths
When billy is wearing black and since it symbolizes guilt it also could mean he planned to be arrested only for billy to give himself more of a motive to hate Sidney
"And are the police aware that you dated the victim?" Lol the way he says that cracks me up everytime, watching this now its obvious stu and billy were the killers, they give so much away here but u dont notice it the first time you watch it, or even the 2nd. Love this classic ❤
He had no idea. He never would've guessed it was both of them.
I love Randy, the way he was looking at Stu like he knew he's the killer this whole time
I believe Randy was genuinely suspicious of him. He points out Stu’s motive for killing the first victim and her bf, it’s also implied that he lied to Tatum about dumping the victim for her to save face so this implies that he’s dishonest. Logically he would’ve suspected Billy at some point as well. The only thing Randy didn’t count on was there being two killers.
Lol Randy with his high voice about the mailbox. Lol
It's Jerry Lewis's nutty professor, dumbass!
do you know if that line was a reference to anything?
Sounds like that kid from polar express lmfaoo
Jerry Lewis. The Nutty Professor.
Very clever scene in hindsight. Randy explicitly states Stu’s motivation for killing first victim. We also assume that Billy looks annoyed and stressed because Stu and Randy are upsetting Sydney. But he’s really annoyed that Stu is bringing attention to the fact that he’s one of the killers
Randy is so cute he deserves the world he’s so underrated WTFFF
agreed :(
The best character.
agreed. he is one of my favorites
The way Randy's head pops out of nowhere still makes me laugh to this day.
0:58
I’m always surprised nobody talks about sociopathic everyone at this high school is. Like I get Stu and Billy are the killers.
But Tatum and Randy are totally nonchalant about the brutal murder.
And the rest of the students literally terrorize Sidney about her dead mother as a prank.
Literally?
I think it was fine. Their behaviors doesn't equal sociopathic and plus there's no one way to react to this stuff.
Teenagers are awful people. Every single one of them. I was an awful person when I was a teenager, and so were you and everyone else reading this. Of course they were nonchalant about what was happening
@@Nobodyimportant85 Way to be bitter, cynical, ignorant, misanthropic, spiteful, and vindictive all in one comment. They're not all evil people and watching enough movies desensitizes you to things. Besides, Sidney isn't evil. Just uncomfortable.
I’m sure that’s what Craven intended. I feel like people forget sometimes that this was more of a murder mystery movie then a horror. It’s was done so well!
I honestly love Sidney's body language in this scene, especially the way she tenses up when Randy jokes about violence and gore.
Yup, especially when her own mom was killed similarly. It was personal to her.
The first time watching this movie I had no clue it was billy and Stu but when I rewatched it and saw this scene it was so obvious that billy was trying to get Stu to stop talking and billy looked worried 😂
"LIVER ALONE." Cracks me up every damn time. LMAO.
1:29 The look billy gives stu after stu say's "thanks buddy" was just further indication that billy was getting uncomfortable with stu talking about it so detailed.
A prequel to this movie with Billy and Stu meeting for the 1st time, and coming up with plots for murder. That would of been nice to see.
That's what I was thinking too. A prequel with these 5 as friends, but when Billy and Stu are alone they are plotting all of this and we see their descent into madness.
@@Meangrl19 yeah i agree.. They mesh so well 2gether and the plot is already there lol..
Yes, that would be brilliant. I can see that being scream 5, it would only make sense. There was literally a whole movies worth of events before the first film.
Excellent idea, but too late now. This should have been scream 2 or 3. Skeet and Mathew are too old to reprise their roles now.
Maybe that could be made as a book or even a comic book.
At 0:45, Billy became instantly alerted when stu told him how to gut someone in detail.
Liver alone!
One thing I love about this movie is how they had a perfect mixture of scary and humor in the move
When Stu is answering Billy gives him the "oh no you don't tell her" look.
Rose McGowan and Matthew Lillard were the highlights of the movie for me.
I agree. Especially Rose, Tatum is my favorite character.
0:38 "how do you gut someone" queue creepy music. Anyway, first horror movie ever where I hear someone use the word "tact"
She meant how could someone bring themselves to gut someone.
MrParkerman6 that is when I knew Stu was a killer because he misinterpreted what she asked
It's so different when you watch this after finding out who the killer is, much creepier
Ikr
Ikr just look how billy is talking to stu. It literally looks like billy doesn’t even like him. But yet there both the killers LMAO.
Everyone acting all cleaver like they predicted the killers but when you watched this for the first time a decade or two ago it wasn't something that even crossed your mind. The idea of two killers was completely genius and original. And with billy it was like they were trying so hard to make him seem shady and like they wanted you to think he was the killer that you start to think he's not going to be (which i think was the intention)
Indeed so.
very true I actually thought Dewey was the killer first time watching lmao
@@jhedatitan4228 You just further proved their point😂.
That's true, at least in American cinéma. I had seen two killers in some gialli by Dario Argento, but on American slashers, that was new.
I love that line "Was that before or after he sliced and diced?"
I cant stop laughing Randy is the best.
“Did you really put her liver in the mailbox, cause I heard they found her liver in the mailbox next to her spleen and her pancreas.”😂😂😂😂😂😂
LIVER ALONE!!!!
I love randy way too much and his lines 🤣
What is that a reference to?
@@davidrich27 Bambi
Why did billy get bad when stu said “Liver Aline” ?
@@LastDebt555 Because he was already annoyed with Stu.
Rest in Peace Wes Craven, Master of Horror :(
I remember always saying liver alone, sidney your mother's no Sharon stone and I'm feeling a little woozy here all the time after this came out. Stu was funny as hell in this.
At this moment, Randy probably just joking around about suspecting Stu as the killer. He wasn't 100% sure that he was the killer. Otherwise, he would be afraid of him. Just like when he afraid of Stu right before Billy shoot him.
And for some people like Stu who also like to joking around, it actually wierd that he took Randy's word seriously (the fact that he defend himself by saying 'I didn't kill anybody'). And Billy reaction after that, when he said 'Nobody said you did' and his look, I think it was to remind him to not taking Randy's joke seriously or else they were gonna get busted.
And I'm sure Tatum tried to defend Stu because she thought there's no way that Stu would do something like that. But the fact that she almost lost the argumen with Randy (when he said 'Is that after or before he sliced and diced?') and start to question Randy's alibi back, I think little did she knew Randy was kinda right. Stu wasn't with her all night. So there was a chance that Stu was the killer.
You said it. Randy wasn't being serious but Stu did somewhat enjoying the attention.
Stu used Tatum as an albi.
1:43 he sounds like spongebob
Billy's face when stu stared talking about how to really gut a preson with a knife he was thinking just shut up now stu!
Ah a young Skeet Ulrich it's awesome to see him as Jughead's dad on Riverdale now
1:48 it’s was so funny 😂 how many time she clean her lips before she kiss Billy lol 😂
great cast chemistry
“ nobody said YOU did “
wow I missed that reveal when I was younger ! Billy was basically saying “ of course you didn’t because I did “
Daniel Partida huh ? Did you mean to comment this under my post ?
Daniel Partida what ?
@@moodforever Sorry. My previous comments were meant for another post. Somehow, they ended up under yours.
Daniel Partida lol it’s okay
No, you got it wrong. Both Billy and Stu were at Casey's house and Stu was the one who ultimately killed her
Matthew Lilard was absolutely born for this role
Billy is just screaming at Stu to shut up this whole scene 💀😭
This movie has some of the most accurate teen dialogue I’ve ever seen
After rewatching the movie who else can see every little detail of when Stu and Billy made it blatantly obvious they were the killer. The first time watching you don’t notice the signs but one of them is how Stu describes how to gut someone and Billy immediately being agitated with him. At first you’d think it was because of Sidney but its not. And after Tatum was murdered Billy showed up out of nowhere and gave Stu a signal that she was dead… Which was the eye widened, eyebrow raised, slight nod of the head look.
I thought the same thing when I first saw this movie back in elementary. In retrospect, Billy was getting irritated with Stu for describing how to gut someone because he almost gave away the fact that they were the killers.
“After all, it takes a man to do something like that”
Jamie Kennedy thank you
Billy's reaction at 1:17 and facial gesture at 1:31 to Stu
Miss this cast it's sad that Sydney is the only owe left alive out of the group.
nobody knew at the time that only three people (a high school girl, a newswoman and a law enforcement officer) would live to the end
Nah randy still alive

renee shupperd He got a tv shoved into his head.
Billy Schibetta How did it ruin the mood? The only reason you can see Mathew Lillard in the background was because him and Neve Campbell were dating at the time. Stu coming back would’ve been the worst possible decision. He dies in the first one, end of story.
He was originally going to in Scream 3, but the idea was dropped due to Columbine.
@@justinwright4628 That is true. I really wonder what Scream 3 would have been like if not for Columbine. If anything, the film would have been more entertaining because Matthew Lillard is just so good at being Stu Macher.

And You Got Killed Because You were involved In the movie And It was your hometown and you just busted your location and you said that to a random Commenter you don't know and maybe it's someone like ghost face typing this...
I believe this scene is foreshadowing toward the end now that I think about it. Casey was hanged and gutted and the fact that Stu explain how to gut someone is sketchy in my opinion.

Randy is just so hilarious in this scene 😂
1:15 that look Billy has that Randy is absolutely correct.
“It’s called tact u fuckrag” Billy was about to throw HANDS 😭😭😭
I remember not knowing at all who the killer was because I didn’t expect a reveal or anything like that. I thought Sidney would die & that Billy was just a creepy boyfriend. Randy’s green shoes are special.
“You take a knife…and you slit ‘em. From groin to sternum.” Also known as field dressing. Hunter ethics is, never tell that to other people who don’t hunt. Easy give away to who the killers really are

When I saw this film for the first time ever I cannot believe I missed the obvious clue that Billy and Stu were the killers it was a pretty obvious giveaway Stu explaining the gutting process and Billy saying "nobody said you did" while giving him a serious STFU face
