I heard this live and the difference in volume levels was pretty big. Osis was really pushing his notes in this battle, but Julard's drums were still way louder than most of his bass notes.
This battle IMO shows the bias judges had for power. Every other battle, Julard won fair and square. Against Kaji, Kaji was just too messy, and alexinho didn’t have as much flashy showing compared to Julard. But here against Osis, Osis had more structure by far, he had way more flow, and he didn’t really make mistakes at all in his rounds. But Julard fell flat in every catagory except 1, power. He was so much more powerful that the judges (who probably weren’t wearing their headphones let’s be honest) took that as “yep he wins” which is bs. Osis deserved that win
@ yeah but the counter has been the same every round of this comp for him. Julard is an example of someone like Inertia who uses the same exact techniques for every round they do. He just did his most powerful technique for every counter, and sometimes didn’t even bother matching the flow or pattern, just blasted sound straight into the sound system
IMO this one should've been closer between the judges. Although Julard "deserved" to win, I feel like this final leaned more towards Osis. Osis Round 1: Might've gone a bit overboard with its theming - but the execution was phenomenal and you can't deny it's ferocity (which is great in a battle setting). Beastly sounds coming from Osis and you can tell he came to win. Disrespecting your young and upcoming opponent (and their country + it's people) however, is a surefire way to mark you as the villain. 8/10 - but, I can see the judges not appreciating the hostility and finding it too brazen. Julard Round 1: Absolute BEAST counter that just obliterates Osis' song with a 1-up. You can tell he wasn't happy and was ready to smash the speakers. Which he did, as well as forming his whole song into a counter, which is fantastic. His power is certainly there, his flow is great, his battle prowess is strong, which looks great on paper. However, Osis is pretty much right. Julard is 90% power and 10% composition. His sound pallet is extremely limited and the more I see/listen to him perform the more I become aware of this. Osis has a much better range in his sounds, and his artistry is highly advanced, considerably more advanced than Julard. I find this to be more valuable in a competition overall, but round one 100% goes to Julard based on the counter alone. 7/10 - but, the counter was perfect and it won over the crowd and the judges as well, so he wins even though his song was slightly worse. Osis Round 2: Osis delivers a massive banger, but unfortunately fell victim to recycling part of his earlier set in the intro, which doesn't look good on paper (keep saying on paper but there's more to what's there ofc). Personally, I really REALLY like Osis' style more than Julards. I wasn't familiar with Julard until GBB24, so when I saw his solo elim I was blown away. I LOVED Julards solo elim and was really looking forward to seeing him compete. But again, as I said earlier, as time went on I didn't see much of an evolution and started to grow bored of his sounds and flows, even though the sounds he does have are impressive. Osis, however, kept delivering fresh and unique sounds/songs throughout the entire competition with a wider selection of themes. Couple this with his outstanding flow (swaggy as hell, effortless), and I find myself enjoying his music more. 8.5/10 - but, in this song he's making a major mistake trying to match Julard's power, which he can't quite do. Julard round 2: I did not like Julard's round 2. It felt very disconnected and amateurish, his DnB did not read well and I almost felt as though maybe the pressure was getting to him, or he had pushed himself too hard to try and "seal the deal". His power was there, as always, but that same power made his lack of experience with drum consistency/technique more apparent when his drums came off much quieter, drawing more attention to his flaws. His drumming was "meh", his humming and tonality of those hums were "meh", the patterns were painfully standard and most of the song did not feature his signature bass (only at the end for some fan service). It really felt like almost all steam had ran out halfway through his 2nd round, and he was just clamoring for the finish. Only once he was an inch from the finish line did he give it his all, which is fine, but not impressive. in julard second round you underestimate his stage presence, he was so confident he started walking on the speakers to be literally almost inside the crowd, he was dancing to his beats, he really sold his round and exubertated winner energy
You’re weighing the scores wrong imo. You need to account for the fact that what the battlers say and do will also affect how the scoring will be weighed. Take Audical vs Napom in 2019 @ Beatbox Legends. Napom baits Audical to use inward bass to counteract Napom’s liproll, then he proceeds to do an entire round without a single liproll while Audical fails to do so with inward bass. In this case something like originality/complexity isn’t weighted as heavily because that battle move made the battle more about who is more diverse. Osis in a way did that. He instigated. Had Julard responded with a more melodic round more in the realm of what Gene does, power would be less of a factor. Thing is, Julard didn’t do that, he came in wanting a fight. Both competitors agreed to be aggressive towards each other. In a fist fight, of course the one with nearly as good technique (arguably better, Julard made less mistakes than Osis) but significantly more strength wins. This is especially apparent when Osis has a style that heavily relies on his bass coming out well.

Most people present at the event in japan said that Julard won. Thirdly if you consider it rigged because there are judges from the same country as the competitor then I’d like to remember u that it always has been like this. When napom won GBB there were 3 American judges… You also gotta in consideration that this wasn’t an easy win : the final was a close call, even Kenny and Freddy the host in the live said that they never heard anyone like Julard but Odis was really good too. The surprise factor was huge. Julard also felt like he hardcore battling while Odis like he was just performing his rounds. Anyway don’t criticize a professional judging panel off legends when you don’t know shit about judging. You might say I preferred Osis but stop hating, enjoy the fact that you will hear more of Osis next year and just enjoy the music that they gave us.
