  • Travel back in time with me to the days of the Norman settlements and explore the ruins of Castle Acres' ruined castle and Priory. The priory is easily one of the, if not THE, most fascinating places I've been!
In the1070s Castle Acre was chosen, by William de Warenne, to be the headquarers of his Norfolk properties. In the 1080s he settled a small band of monks near his home and by the 1090s the existing buildings were begun. This was followed by complete fortification of the town.
The castle was abandoned in the middle ages and remains one of the most impressive Norman earthworks in the UK
The priory survived until 1537 when it succumbed to Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries and is one of the most intact in England
You will most certainly be left in sheer awe of the people who built it and it's beauty. The attention to detail in every part of it is phenomenal!
I hope you enjoy my tour as much as I did and I highly recommend you pay a visit to see it for yourself....this video really does not do it justice!

As a new subscriber, you have done a splendid job. I have not been to Castle Acre but I've read about it. If you're going to visit more EH sites in the future. You would save money on a membership. Which would save you a fortune...Thanks for the wonderful video :)
