I’m wondering if it’s just Yugioh in particular because Pokémon doesn’t seem to have this problem as widespread or as egregious. There’s definitely mistakes in general but I’ve never seen a psa 9 base set card that’s bent through the entire top half or the corner of the card. Half of the sellers on eBay seem to not know how to gauge condition for Yugioh. I see cards listed as nm that have creases just because the rest of the card is spotless. I see cards with heavy wear listed as lp all the time. Maybe people just don’t look at Yugioh cards hard enough cause the backs are darker and the cards are smaller

I don’t trust grading services anymore. Knowing that a lot of companies only do a quick visual test that’s different person to person gives me little to no faith in their grading. I’m just sticking to binder/raw colies now. Seeing how strict Ace Grading and other companies were when it came to using computer software to accurately grade Pokemon cards really opened my eye to how inadequate PSA’s service is. You shouldn’t have to pay what you want to self-evaluate/pre-grade cards. Leaves the door open to shady business.
Them scratches on that first card was ridiculous shouldn’t even have been a Mint 9 lol..PSA is so inaccurate now a days and people aint saying shit about it…
I think this is a great start to the discussion on whether PSA is accurate or not, and which eras are best etc. but it’s a very small sample size at the end of the day and isn’t enough for us to draw any conclusive evidence from. PSA definitely needs to be more consistent tho. I have had some subs where I’ve gotten 85% gem rates and some where I’ve gotten 10% lol. Same quality of cards overall tho, as I’m strict with what I submit. Either way, great video as always!
Not sure how the Silent Doom managed to get a 9, but I'm actually happy to see the relative consistency of 9's in this video. You really have some beautiful looking cards that I would personally consider to be NM, so good job PSA I guess? Not to shit on other companies, but I personally found BGS to be the most inconsistent (especially with centering) and no company is without their controversies, so I think I'll continue to use PSA. Really appreciate you making this video, was about to crack some 9's myself (4 certs) and feel more confident in doing so.
Love the info on this video! Even tho i am more interested into these new perfect inner sleeves! Can’t wait when they come out! Can they get double sleeved with sleeves 62x89?
Card “Grading” is the biggest money grab, pretense of a joke to ever hit the waste-your-money market. People have such little value in their worldviews and lives that they really have to attach it to a picture of a dark magician girl, rated for thousands, if not the se of thousands, of dollars. Very professional 👏🏻 Gotta validate an otherwise worthless “hobby”
an argument i would make of there being a large amount of gem mint cards in the 6-7 is because of the boom in opening packs, cases, where as before there was not as much of a demand. 4-5 were cards sent in before the covid boom given the immense wait list that was in the late 5s and 6 certs
I remember cracking psa cards for my binder in 2015-2016. Pokémon and Yugioh. They use to be pretty spot on for the most part. Maybe target older certs because while they aren’t perfect and there wasn’t AI being used, I never once cracked a 10 or 9 that was bent or had some egregious damage that made the card hundreds or maybe even thousands less. Now prices were ridiculously low in 16. I remember buying psa 10’s for like $40-$50. Some of this is archived on different forums too. There’s old Pokémon and Yugioh forums where I saw people cracking for the binder all the time
Similar types of thing happened to me too I bought PSV cards lightly played and all were in correct condition then ordered LOB and MRD cards in near mint and lightly played and all were in heavy play and damaged conditions
Excellent, excellent video. You're doing hardcore collectors who are obsessive about the condition of their cards (like me!) an incredible service. I was already planning on buying and cracking more PSA 9s myself but have now made a note *only* to collect between the "46" and "58" cert prefix era while going raw or BGS on everything else (per Gaurav's comment below, as well). It's now obvious that PSA buckled under the pressure of the coronaboom and churned out mountains of garbage slabs under the guise of their previously high standards. 11:21 - I oftentimes get squeamish about collecting cards with back scratches like this but sometimes take the plunge if it's a good deal for a card that I don't have, but really want, from a reputable seller. Like, I once bought an Ulti Violet Witch (CRMS-EN097) with a pretty severe "nails on a chalkboard" pattern in back because the seller told me that they were manufacturing print lines and - in my view - visibly couldn't have been caused by the owner.
You're delusional if you think that cert range is going to get you consistent results. I have personally cracked cards in that range that had no business being graded as high as they were. People like you are the most annoying buyers in the world who want to put their cards to a microscope.
Hey i was recently going through my collection after a couple years and realized I have a Rainbow Dragon TAEV-EN006 Misprint. Would you recommend I get it graded? Or would it be best to sell?
regarding that new sleeve design, im afraid that if the card is squeezed between binder pages or enough pressure is placed the flap will imprint onto the card as it does not cover the whole back of the card... was that something taken into consideration?
There's no a culture of protecting properly the cards even with those who sell raw singles. In my country every time I see on Facebook groups selling newer cards from recent expansions, these have already scratches from friction with other cards or other surfaces, despite they have $1 USD or $30 USD cards, I think everything must be protected (taking about foils specially). It had been impossible to me collect older cards in pristine condition, I only find on eBay cards in "New condition" when actually are in the worst conditions possible, plus on tcg they have factory print issues in the recent products, meanwhile buying OCG even the older ones, they're actually a better condition, almost gem mint, so I'm gonna still collecting ocg in the long term.

Many people still use CGC and if anything most choose CGC over all other grading companies. PSA to me is not reliable. With the amount of misgraded cards and mass copied cards all being graded as 10 is a let down. I'll never buy anything PSA.
There is no validity to the cert # theory. PSA employs human beings to grade cards, and like any process dictated by human judgment there are errors. There are clean and meme 8/9/10's in every cert range and there simply isn't enough sample data to conclusively say that any PSA era is "better". Anyone who has cracked numerous slabs can tell you this. Ultimately people are finally realizing that the PSA premium is kind of a rip off becasue the only thing we can say for sure is that they're consistently inconsistent. Really, the best thing you can do is make sure the cert has a PSA scan becasue those show a lot of imperfections.
