      Hi sir, thanks for the feedback, for that one even though there is a signal i did not push it through since 5ghz on the roof deck is not that reliable given that there is a low signal that is why i switched to the 2.4ghz. But i think i should have shown it as well on the video for it is still important to show the performance of the 5ghz band.. how do you compare this with TUF AX 5400 after extensive use ?

    • @JKChavez
      @JKChavez  8 месяцев назад +2

      the 4200 is using a quad core processor, while the 5400 is only using tri-core processor. but in term of handling connected devices (wifi/lan), they both works great, for my test i usually test it 24x7 for at least 1 week and at least 8 devices connected no issue during that time.
      if your main concern is wifi data transfer with large files locally, go with the ax5400, but if you just have a ton of devices and the primary use is to access the internet just get the 4200 for it will be able to perform better.

    Hi. Interesting. Never thought of getting a dedicated router additional to my old PLDT router, which has a terrible 5ghz range/strength. But, aside from some quality of life and security features - is there any benefit for gaming/streaming (streaming games - my wife is a streamer) when using an ethernet cable to the PC? (1gbit LAN - with around 600Mbitup/down speed from PLDT)
    At the end it is 11k peso...not a cheap router after all.

    • @JKChavez
      @JKChavez  Год назад +1

      Hi Duke, the wireless connection is becoming more stable with the 5ghz wifi frequency, and even more stable with wifi 6 technology. but for serious connectivity using lan(ethernet cable) is more reliable than wireless, because in wireless there can be a lot of things going on like interference etc.. the main benefits of using wireless are moving around, and having less hassle for unsightly lan cable across the room.
      I totally agree that it is not cheap, but if you have a lot of wireless devices connected, you need a good router to manage those connections. ( that QOS for prioritizing streaming would be a great help as well)

    This router does not have any VLAN configuration options in the GUI, which I was quite disappointed by, since I've had cheaper, older, weaker wireless routers that provide this feature. The vconfig command is available via the SSH interface, so why not officially support this?
    It also bugs me that HTTPS will only listen on 8443, and the option to change this is read-only. As I understand it, 443 is reserved for AiCloud 2.0, which I have no interest in using anyway, but this router doesn't seem to care to give me the setup that I want.
    The security also leaves a lot to be desired. I was shocked that WiFi was open out of the box for anyone to connect to! I had connected my Ethernet cable, assuming I would configure it via Ethernet before connections could be established. This decision will temporarily put networks at risk! All in the name of convenience? It should be an option (eg. hold a button in for X seconds to enable it), definitely not open by default if Asus would take security seriously.
    The AX4200 also doesn't care much for keeping your WiFi password secret, opting to show it at every opportunity. eg. Just clicking on the Wireless tab will show the WPA Pre-Shared Key in the clear, without so much as a button to unhide it. Other times during the setup process (eg. after changing the SSID name), it asks the user to reconnect to wifi and prints the password in big letters on the screen.
    Honestly, I was quite disappointed with all of this. The hardware itself seems fine, but the software leaves me wondering what the heck Asus was thinking. At least, people in the free software community have successfully modded it to install OpenWRT, which will probably provide a better experience for those who dare to void their warranty.
