Pia is an amazing chess player anna would say a move and she would acknowledge the idea while making such a quick adjustment to it. I've never seen someone so easily reassure someone of their own idea while improving the concept within seconds.
I feel like that’s only partly due to her strength as a player. I think a lot of it just has to do with the kind of mother she is, and it really says a lot about her.
@@AnotherGeekOnTheWall My comment wasn’t intended negatively, if you read it that way. I’m just saying that this particular aspect of Pia speaks to her qualities as a mother and a person rather than her talent in chess, that’s all.

What I love about this (among other things) is you're constantly anticipating what Mittens's response will be, rather than passively waiting for it. I should adopt this discipline more in my own games.
I mean, it's called playing chess. If your decision making isn't backed by concrete variations, you're not playing chess. It's like guessing the answers of a test based on feelings instead of working them out. I would be surprised if you actually could become stronger than 1500 without thinking ahead, anticipating the opponent's move. Always ask yourself "what does he want" GM Vladimir Kramnik even suggests asking what the opponent will do BEFORE thinking about one's own move (in his Chessable course "Thinking in Chess").

I think that Mittens is given a dynamic rating one or two hundred higher than whatever your rating is. The better you are, the better Mittens will be. I play chess only to measure my cognitive decline but I didn't think that Mittens was particularly strong and I held out till move 25 plus or minus.
I think you are right, I'm only 800 rated and held out for 30 moves or so, being rather confused. If I play a top lvl bot I get destroyed and reminded how bad I am at chess as I end up regretting every move.
Great video. Could you share how your learned chess for your mom? I really admire her patience to let you play through the mistakes without sharing too much information, and important part of the learning g process. As a parent, holding your tongue in these moments is so hard.
