To explain a bit about the DSMP absence: most of the ships, especially the platonic ones, included a certain person that was outed as being an abuser this year. So no one wanted to write fics for his character.

17:16 pretty sure the reason Erasermic is always so high is that the fandom has almost collectively agreed that they’re married. It’s very rare that their relationship is the focus of a fic, but it’s often a background element even if the fic is rated gen.
Ayoooo I was there when there were only a dozen legit Wolviepool fics, the number didn't even reach triple digits, now there's almost 600!! I am happy (but also ignore the Honda Odyssey fics because I want to read more of the 'old married couple' fics). It's only been a month too.
I feel bad that Atsushi is so underrated, especially as such an interesting and well-written (in my opinion) protagonist! Though I admit, before I started reading Bungou Stray Dogs, I thought that Dazai was the main character because of all the content I saw of him. I wish that other characters, especially the protagonist of the series, got more attention!
Flashbacks to just before I started watching BSD for the first time and I thought Atsushi was a side character who gets introduced in like season 2 and then immediately dies as cannon fodder so the actual main characters have like a motivation for hating the villains 💀

Tbf, its hard for any femslash to last when a vast majority of the women characters in anything have barely any characterization to work upon and therefore a lack of interest in shipping them with anything(it's hard to ship when the characters are cardboard and have little to no development, or even when the show's fandom has simply died out)

lestappen being the only non-kpop rpf ship on here is genuinely so crazy. to explain their popularity: they grew up racing each other in go karting, and eventually both made their way to f1. charles is often considered one of two or three drivers that can rival max’s skill, even if he doesn’t always have the car to do it. they have a bit of on-track drama (see austria 2019 and followgate) but generally respect each other and are happy when the other wins.
It's so funny to watch people who learned about BSD by osmosis find out that not only is Dazai not the main character, but Atsushi actually is, is so funny.

@@Melanie-jy2nwI mean, Nico at the time would also be dealing with his crush on Percy and his internal battle with being gay as a kid from the highly catholic 1930’s and 1940’s Italy but they could sprinkle in references using the infirmary (altho it would be debatable if Will is gonna show up due to him not being the head counselor of the Apollo cabin yet, it would be an idea to have small moments here and there during season 6 so after the main series concludes) I have many ideas actually for how they can make the two of them interacting seem normal but it all starts happening after the war as that acts as a catalyst for Will to be more in charge and Nico is not the type of person to seek it out. Then there’s also ofcourse the whole thing about Nico barely spending any time at camp to begin with during the first 5 books so there would be barely any opportunity for the two of them to interact
We got Sun and the Star, the new book about Percy (which I haven’t read yet), and the TV show around the same time. Lots of new readers flooding in after watching the show and lots of old readers coming back with the new content. Some people also tend to wait a year or so before reading or buying new books so that they’re more affordable. Also, people were rereading the books to compare to the TV show. Plus, with Rowling’s downfall, a lot of people have been pointing to Riordan as a more politically correct author writing a series with a somewhat similar concept. People who previously were big HP fans have been recovering and some have been gravitating to PJO as a result. The musical has also been available to all theaters long enough that smaller local theaters and high schools are now more likely to be able to afford the rights - meaning some people are doing the production in school or seeing it at their local children’s theater. So over the past couple years, PJO has been gaining more popularity and the show has only increased that popularity.

For F1, as people have said, Drive To Survive on Netflix can be a good place to start for the more recent years. Topics you could look into though are Max and Charles, the early 2010s grid - there are two drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, who have an AO3 fic currently in progress which (as of this comment) has 555 chapters and 6,161,983 words. It has been ongoing since June 2014 and is phenomenal. There's the rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in 2016. It's also interesting to see how drivers moving teams can affect fics - people tend to ship teammates together, there's nearly the same amount of Max and Charles fics as there are Max and Daniel Ricciardo fics but Max and Charles have never been on the same team (just moved through the ranks at roughly the same time) and Daniel and Max haven't been on the same team since 2018. Sometimes the ships change with the driver moves but others like Lewis/Nico and Mark/Seb or Kimi Räikkönen/Seb or Charles/Max simply transcend time. Sorry about that rant but, like I said, it's super interesting how F1 can influence fics on AO3.

As somebody who has recently fallen into the pits of Hannigram, I believe the reason it's so high this year is because of Tik Tok. A lot of Tik Tok edits have been going around of Hannibal (especially this one animatic to the song 'red flags') and people have watched the show wondering what the hype is about. The show is really good and people have fallen in love with it. Also, the actors for Hannibal and Will recently did a big Hannibal panel together, which could be a big factor in it's resurrgence. I think that's the reason that Hannibal's gone up so much this year, which is awesome because they're a incredibly interesting ship with a lot of moving parts to their dynamic. I think the Drarry resurgence is a direct result of the Marauders fandom. Mainly James/Regulus. People love that ship and wanted to find something similar, then they remembered Drarry existed.

Not on TikTok but I’ve also seen a lot of people coming back to the fandom due to the ComicCon panel the cast did. I think the panel gave the impression the show was in talks to come back and it rejuvenated the Fandom.

Through TikTok it’s gained a lot of newer fans through the edits and being kinda iconic on fanfictok - also being commonly being linked with other popular shows such as good omens, IWTV and OFMD helps 😂 The multiple panels and having its own con (RDC6) return has also given Hannigram a huge boost this year!
There were also like 3 (?) panels hosted by them (and the tumblr was crazyy we overthrew deadpool & wolwerine on the trending page about 1-2 weeks back)

It's fun to see it all coming back, because personally, these kind of fandoms are my favourite and tend to lack the angry, judgemental discourse I've seen in other media (maybe striking off Good Omens lol).

theres been a rise of batfam content lately. i blame a raise on spiderman x batfam fics (i started reading batman bc of that, and most spiderman content creators i follow started posting batfam content) and the wayne family adventures comics where they are all drawn pretty and act like a found family.

an f1 fandom deep dive from you would be incredible!! as an f1 fan, i think that crucial topics for a deep dive would include brocedes & the silver war of the 2016 season (the complicated relationship between lewis hamilton and nico rosberg and their nearly deadly last title fight. this has SO MUCH insane lore/history to it that only continues to expand, it’s the kind of stuff you can’t even make up), the 2021 season and its insane fan wars, taylonso (taylor swift + fernando alonso rumors), the discourse around the netflix show drive to survive, debates about f1’s glaring nepotism (ex lance stroll), max verstappen’s dad being widely hated for not only being violent in general but also abusing max as a child, the 2012 grid lineup in general (it’s very beloved by fans), charles leclerc and max verstappen’s rivalry (“just an inchident,” going from hating each other as children to having a unique respect and fondness for each other as adults, them being destined rivals since they were kids and everyone including them knowing that they’d race together through adulthood, the sunset and storm lap, their intense battles on track), charles leclerc’s biblically tragic loyalty to ferrari despite being doomed to be their sacrificial lamb, and the multitude of superstitions and “curses” in the f1 world. there’s definitely more but this is just what i could think of off of the top of my head, i really hope i could be of help! i wish you luck in your f1 journey

I always feel like Sirius/Remus ship is so high is because they're a popular side ship. They get tagged in a lot of stories I read without being the main ship
I actually think it might be the other way around- other ships are getting tagged in WolfStar content. They are the main ship for the marauders fandom- which I would argue is bigger than the HP fandom on AO3. The bonus list, one of them shows the number of fics where that ship is the only ship in the fic, WolfStar is still #8. The only one above them on that list is Drarry. Where as Jilly drops 71 spots and is in the very bottom.
I do think that in the marauders fandom, they are huge and often the main ship. frankly, the marauders fandom wouldn't even exist in remotely the same way if it weren't for wolfstar.
It’s definitely a slog trying to find an actual Wolfstar fic with them as a main pairing rather than Drarry fics where they show up precisely twice. I always end up reading an Drarry when trying to find a Wolfstar.
@@octaviablackthorn9 top tip, use the exclude filter on ao3 to get rid of ships you dont want to see come up (aka drarry), you can exclude as many as you want. Also use the include tab to only get fics with wolfstar in them. The sidebar is your friend xx

Seeing you mention Haobin (Rank 83) is crazy it's like my worlds are colliding. I watched your channel for so long 😭 In case you were wondering about them, their relationship started off as "expected to be rivals" cause they were in a survival show before debut (essentially a talent show but really intensive training and evaluations). But they refer to eachother as soulmates. Like according to other trainees on that show and fellow members, they're CLOSE close. And everyone can see!! In the present time, they describe their relationship subtly using romantic songs or expressing it in other non-direct and direct ways. They're really lovely and sweet together,, I completely see why they're rank 83. Haobin even danced in front of a bus ad picture (of them with the slogan: "Love is Love") Yeah ok im done rambling BWHAJAJSJAKSK but yeah this is a super adorable pairing congrats to them for ranking, despite only debuting last year ! :^)

"Drive to Survive" has, each year since its release, experienced EXPONENTIAL mainstream popularity growth, so hoards of new fans/writers flock to AO3 as seasons release on a regular annual basis. FUN FACT: The third longest fic on AO3 is a Mark Webber/Sebastian Vettel fic at 6.1 million words and 555 chapters. They raced together in F1 throughout the 2010s.

Tbh I think Lestappen rising on AO3 has more to do with them going viral on tumblr than DTS (which has seen massive ratings dropoffs for recent seasons). They first made the weekly top 10 ships list on tumblr back in 2022 as a result of the Austria 2022 podium. They’ve made the yearly top 100 ships on tumblr every year since then and F1 now regularly trends on tumblr, which has only helped grow f1blr & the number of people writing fics.
i actually think DTS would be really bad for showcasing relationship dynamics. Most of the guys talked about how it dramatizes their relationships in ways that just arent true. Like carlos and lando laughing at their enemy edit that they got on one of the episodes. Max and Daniel being on good terms with eachother when the show gave a huge villain edit to max in season 1.

If I remember correctly, last year's list was published so close to the Good Omens s2 finale that there wasn't really any time to account for the growth in fics that s2 brought with it, but I had been so excited to see just how much the ship could jump in popularity for this year's charts. I would love to see you do a deep dive on the F1 fandom (as someone who's been in it a while). Although I definitely recommend venturing into the trenches yourself especially on a race weekend when it's absolute chaos and memes, I can give a quick primer: So basic F1 knowledge needed first: you've got 20 drivers and 10 teams, so two drivers per team. Naturally this lends itself to quite a lot of interesting dynamics, especially since these two drivers are 'teammates' fighting to win their team the constructors' championship (WCC), but the drivers are also all competing against each other to win the drivers' championship (WDC). Also, in order to become an F1 driver you have to start karting at a very early age, so a lot of the current drivers on the grid grew up all alongside each other or idolising each other. So Charles and Max for example, quite famously have known each other since they were five years old and openly hated each other growing up because they were often in fights for the race win, but despite all that seem to have quite a good relationship now and produce some beautiful racing (also my personal favourite piece of lore is that they're the closest in age on the grid, only born 16 days apart, and they competed against each other in 33 events before F1 and their racing numbers ended up being 16 (Charles) and 33 (Max), I think this soulmatism is the main reason they're such a popular pairing). Since there are only 20 drivers, it's quite easy to learn the 'cast of characters' in F1, their personalities, their history, and their interpersonal relationships with each other. I will say I sometimes see what I can only be described as Avengers 2012-style wishful thinking that these guys are all best friends when in reality the best way I can describe a lot of them is reluctantly-soulbonded co-workers, but it still makes for a perfect base for fandom. Every team has a different history and culture as well! Scuderia Ferrari (my poison of choice) is the most prestigious team and probably the most hardcore in terms of fan culture, mostly because it's an Italian cultural institution as much as anything but also there's this thread of delusional hope and optimism that runs strongest amongst its fans or the tifosi (a famous quote which became a bit of a meme is: "There are two religions in Italy, the Catholic Church and Ferrari"). Ferrari hasn't won any championship since the 00s, and unfortunately in recent years even though they have Charles Leclerc who is probably the most talented driver on the grid and can pull absolute miracles out of an awful car-their car design and strategy really haven't been up to scratch compared with the other three frontrunner teams of Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes. But still you'll hear and see Ferrari fans uttering the words "Forza Ferrari Sempre" and going insane whenever the slightest bit of something good happens. It's actually a very interesting time to be getting into F1, the balance of dominance has shifted a little bit from Max Verstappen and Red Bull towards McLaren. McLaren have built what is by far the fastest car, but Max will still probably take the drivers' championship this year but it's going to be an interesting end to the season! I will say there a massive differences in fandom between tumblr who talk and joke about RPF very openly but are often quite knowledgeable about the sport itself, to twitter which seems to just always be on fire as everyone tries to defend their favourites, to reddit where a lot of the more traditional sports fans hang out and a lot of analytics and calmer driver comparison goes on, to TikTok where you've got edits and is often mocked by the three others because of open RPF discussion or similar. I would really recommend taking a look into it on a race weekend. Speaking of race weekends, one last thing! I think F1 has really surged in popularity in fandom recently because streaming sites have ruined the episode-a-week release model and people like to have an interest that will provide content on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. The F1 season runs from March to December, with the longest break in that time period being three weeks. That combined with the fact that F1 is an accessible sport in terms of the knowledge you need to watch a race, the 'small cast' of people you need to get to know compared to any other sport, and the way that cameras are absolutely everywhere on a race weekend have made it the perfect thing at the perfect time for fandom to latch onto.
If you do an F1 fandom deep dive I might cry of pure joy. There is SO MUCH lore and usually Tumblr is full of discussions on various topics :D I'd especially recommend looking at rivalries and friendships though, as those have so much fun content. Edit: Also you did pronounce "Grian" correctly!! :D

lestappen being the only non-kpop rpf ship on here is genuinely so crazy. to explain their popularity: they grew up racing each other in go karting, and eventually both made their way to f1. charles is often considered one of two or three drivers that can rival max’s skill, even if he doesn’t always have the car to do it. they have a bit of on-track drama (see austria 2019 and followgate) but generally respect each other and are happy when the other wins.

I have many ideas actually for how they can make the two of them interacting seem normal but it all starts happening after the war as that acts as a catalyst for Will to be more in charge and Nico is not the type of person to seek it out. Then there’s also ofcourse the whole thing about Nico barely spending any time at camp to begin with during the first 5 books so there would be barely any opportunity for the two of them to interact
We got Sun and the Star, the new book about Percy (which I haven’t read yet), and the TV show around the same time. Lots of new readers flooding in after watching the show and lots of old readers coming back with the new content. Some people also tend to wait a year or so before reading or buying new books so that they’re more affordable. Also, people were rereading the books to compare to the TV show. Plus, with Rowling’s downfall, a lot of people have been pointing to Riordan as a more politically correct author writing a series with a somewhat similar concept. People who previously were big HP fans have been recovering and some have been gravitating to PJO as a result. The musical has also been available to all theaters long enough that smaller local theaters and high schools are now more likely to be able to afford the rights - meaning some people are doing the production in school or seeing it at their local children’s theater.
So over the past couple years, PJO has been gaining more popularity and the show has only increased that popularity.

For F1, as people have said, Drive To Survive on Netflix can be a good place to start for the more recent years. Topics you could look into though are Max and Charles, the early 2010s grid - there are two drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, who have an AO3 fic currently in progress which (as of this comment) has 555 chapters and 6,161,983 words. It has been ongoing since June 2014 and is phenomenal. There's the rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in 2016. It's also interesting to see how drivers moving teams can affect fics - people tend to ship teammates together, there's nearly the same amount of Max and Charles fics as there are Max and Daniel Ricciardo fics but Max and Charles have never been on the same team (just moved through the ranks at roughly the same time) and Daniel and Max haven't been on the same team since 2018. Sometimes the ships change with the driver moves but others like Lewis/Nico and Mark/Seb or Kimi Räikkönen/Seb or Charles/Max simply transcend time. Sorry about that rant but, like I said, it's super interesting how F1 can influence fics on AO3.

As somebody who has recently fallen into the pits of Hannigram, I believe the reason it's so high this year is because of Tik Tok. A lot of Tik Tok edits have been going around of Hannibal (especially this one animatic to the song 'red flags') and people have watched the show wondering what the hype is about. The show is really good and people have fallen in love with it. Also, the actors for Hannibal and Will recently did a big Hannibal panel together, which could be a big factor in it's resurrgence.
I think that's the reason that Hannibal's gone up so much this year, which is awesome because they're a incredibly interesting ship with a lot of moving parts to their dynamic.
I think the Drarry resurgence is a direct result of the Marauders fandom. Mainly James/Regulus. People love that ship and wanted to find something similar, then they remembered Drarry existed.

Through TikTok it’s gained a lot of newer fans through the edits and being kinda iconic on fanfictok - also being commonly being linked with other popular shows such as good omens, IWTV and OFMD helps 😂 The multiple panels and having its own con (RDC6) return has also given Hannigram a huge boost this year!
There were also like 3 (?) panels hosted by them (and the tumblr was crazyy we overthrew deadpool & wolwerine on the trending page about 1-2 weeks back)

an f1 fandom deep dive from you would be incredible!! as an f1 fan, i think that crucial topics for a deep dive would include brocedes & the silver war of the 2016 season (the complicated relationship between lewis hamilton and nico rosberg and their nearly deadly last title fight. this has SO MUCH insane lore/history to it that only continues to expand, it’s the kind of stuff you can’t even make up), the 2021 season and its insane fan wars, taylonso (taylor swift + fernando alonso rumors), the discourse around the netflix show drive to survive, debates about f1’s glaring nepotism (ex lance stroll), max verstappen’s dad being widely hated for not only being violent in general but also abusing max as a child, the 2012 grid lineup in general (it’s very beloved by fans), charles leclerc and max verstappen’s rivalry (“just an inchident,” going from hating each other as children to having a unique respect and fondness for each other as adults, them being destined rivals since they were kids and everyone including them knowing that they’d race together through adulthood, the sunset and storm lap, their intense battles on track), charles leclerc’s biblically tragic loyalty to ferrari despite being doomed to be their sacrificial lamb, and the multitude of superstitions and “curses” in the f1 world. there’s definitely more but this is just what i could think of off of the top of my head, i really hope i could be of help! i wish you luck in your f1 journey

I always feel like Sirius/Remus ship is so high is because they're a popular side ship. They get tagged in a lot of stories I read without being the main ship
The Marauders and the Hp fandom have just accepted Wolfstar to be true 🤝🏻
I actually think it might be the other way around- other ships are getting tagged in WolfStar content. They are the main ship for the marauders fandom- which I would argue is bigger than the HP fandom on AO3. The bonus list, one of them shows the number of fics where that ship is the only ship in the fic, WolfStar is still #8. The only one above them on that list is Drarry. Where as Jilly drops 71 spots and is in the very bottom.
I do think that in the marauders fandom, they are huge and often the main ship. frankly, the marauders fandom wouldn't even exist in remotely the same way if it weren't for wolfstar.
It’s definitely a slog trying to find an actual Wolfstar fic with them as a main pairing rather than Drarry fics where they show up precisely twice. I always end up reading an Drarry when trying to find a Wolfstar.

Seeing you mention Haobin (Rank 83) is crazy it's like my worlds are colliding. I watched your channel for so long 😭 In case you were wondering about them, their relationship started off as "expected to be rivals" cause they were in a survival show before debut (essentially a talent show but really intensive training and evaluations).
But they refer to eachother as soulmates. Like according to other trainees on that show and fellow members, they're CLOSE close. And everyone can see!!
In the present time, they describe their relationship subtly using romantic songs or expressing it in other non-direct and direct ways. They're really lovely and sweet together,, I completely see why they're rank 83.

As for why the recent entry on the list? "Drive to Survive" has, each year since its release, experienced EXPONENTIAL mainstream popularity growth, so hoards of new fans/writers flock to AO3 as seasons release on a regular annual basis. FUN FACT: The third longest fic on AO3 is a Mark Webber/Sebastian Vettel fic at 6.1 million words and 555 chapters. They raced together in F1 throughout the 2010s.

Tbh I think Lestappen rising on AO3 has more to do with them going viral on tumblr than DTS (which has seen massive ratings dropoffs for recent seasons). They first made the weekly top 10 ships list on tumblr back in 2022 as a result of the Austria 2022 podium. They’ve made the yearly top 100 ships on tumblr every year since then and F1 now regularly trends on tumblr, which has only helped grow f1blr & the number of people writing fics.
i actually think DTS would be really bad for showcasing relationship dynamics. Most of the guys talked about how it dramatizes their relationships in ways that just arent true. Like carlos and lando laughing at their enemy edit that they got on one of the episodes. Max and Daniel being on good terms with eachother when the show gave a huge villain edit to max in season 1.

I would love to see you do a deep dive on the F1 fandom (as someone who's been in it a while). Although I definitely recommend venturing into the trenches yourself especially on a race weekend when it's absolute chaos and memes, I can give a quick primer:
So basic F1 knowledge needed first: you've got 20 drivers and 10 teams, so two drivers per team. Naturally this lends itself to quite a lot of interesting dynamics, especially since these two drivers are 'teammates' fighting to win their team the constructors' championship (WCC), but the drivers are also all competing against each other to win the drivers' championship (WDC). Also, in order to become an F1 driver you have to start karting at a very early age, so a lot of the current drivers on the grid grew up all alongside each other or idolising each other. So Charles and Max for example, quite famously have known each other since they were five years old and openly hated each other growing up because they were often in fights for the race win, but despite all that seem to have quite a good relationship now and produce some beautiful racing (also my personal favourite piece of lore is that they're the closest in age on the grid, only born 16 days apart, and they competed against each other in 33 events before F1 and their racing numbers ended up being 16 (Charles) and 33 (Max), I think this soulmatism is the main reason they're such a popular pairing). Since there are only 20 drivers, it's quite easy to learn the 'cast of characters' in F1, their personalities, their history, and their interpersonal relationships with each other. I will say I sometimes see what I can only be described as Avengers 2012-style wishful thinking that these guys are all best friends when in reality the best way I can describe a lot of them is reluctantly-soulbonded co-workers, but it still makes for a perfect base for fandom.
Every team has a different history and culture as well! Scuderia Ferrari (my poison of choice) is the most prestigious team and probably the most hardcore in terms of fan culture, mostly because it's an Italian cultural institution as much as anything but also there's this thread of delusional hope and optimism that runs strongest amongst its fans or the tifosi (a famous quote which became a bit of a meme is: "There are two religions in Italy, the Catholic Church and Ferrari"). Ferrari hasn't won any championship since the 00s, and unfortunately in recent years even though they have Charles Leclerc who is probably the most talented driver on the grid and can pull absolute miracles out of an awful car-their car design and strategy really haven't been up to scratch compared with the other three frontrunner teams of Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes. But still you'll hear and see Ferrari fans uttering the words "Forza Ferrari Sempre" and going insane whenever the slightest bit of something good happens.
It's actually a very interesting time to be getting into F1, the balance of dominance has shifted a little bit from Max Verstappen and Red Bull towards McLaren. McLaren have built what is by far the fastest car, but Max will still probably take the drivers' championship this year but it's going to be an interesting end to the season!
I will say there a massive differences in fandom between tumblr who talk and joke about RPF very openly but are often quite knowledgeable about the sport itself, to twitter which seems to just always be on fire as everyone tries to defend their favourites, to reddit where a lot of the more traditional sports fans hang out and a lot of analytics and calmer driver comparison goes on, to TikTok where you've got edits and is often mocked by the three others because of open RPF discussion or similar. I would really recommend taking a look into it on a race weekend.
Speaking of race weekends, one last thing! I think F1 has really surged in popularity in fandom recently because streaming sites have ruined the episode-a-week release model and people like to have an interest that will provide content on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. The F1 season runs from March to December, with the longest break in that time period being three weeks. That combined with the fact that F1 is an accessible sport in terms of the knowledge you need to watch a race, the 'small cast' of people you need to get to know compared to any other sport, and the way that cameras are absolutely everywhere on a race weekend have made it the perfect thing at the perfect time for fandom to latch onto.
