I used to play this with my mate in a cockpit formation sitting in chairs, me in front as pilot, him directly behind me as weapons man. We took it really seriously. The moment we beat the game and the map went green, I'll never forget our stunned silence then going nuts.

This one came up at Christmas this year. My uncle gave me this game and I loved it. I was on the FINAL bit of the final mission and was doing very well. My sister, who was pissed at me... powered down the C64 when I went upstairs for Christmas dinner
That was in 1987 and I have yet to forgive her.
Thanks for the memories! One of the great c64 games.

I had a moment where I was about to refuel for the first time ever, it was bloody hard...down...up...left...down....and it went "contact" and the TV went blank. My friend was leaning on a chair and knocked the plug out the socket. I nearly killed him.

It's such a crime this superbly smooth & fast pseudo-3D engine hadn't been reused in other flight simulators. This was the way to go, utilizing C64's cool features and moving 2D graphics elements around seemlesly! And this was 1985 !? Amazing!

We live in Los Angeles and I can remember buying a c64 mail order in 1989. One of the first games I bought was Ace. At that time I also had an amigo 500 and a Mac plus so it didn't get much gameplay. I love flight Sims now and then so I would play Ace all the time. I'm probably the only person in the whole world who took the joystick and taped it to a dinner plate turned upside-down. I then sat on that plate and stuck the joystick into my crotch and just torqued on it to amazingly simulate actual flight combat quite effectively. Very short window on this game and the c64 but I did continue to use that same technique on the Amiga 500 flight Sims. From the days of cheap solutions.

The producers of this game, Cascade, should get credit for not releasing it sooner. There are a lot of features that weren't needed but made it a great game: Speech, multiple missions, multiple enemies, refuelling, winter/summer, dual player. They could have just released a dogfight game without those and it would still have sold.
I got this for Christmas from an uncle when I got my C64 in 1985. My other uncle got me Voodoo Castle and he is not as fondly remembered

Man, you rock. I used to play this game a lot with my cousin in my Commodore 128. I used to be the pilot and he was the weapons man. We really sucked at it.
I had the hardest time landing the plane... I think my success rate was ~10%, and could not shoot down a plane to save my life. My cousin who controlled the weapons always got tangled up between the flares and the missiles, hence we got hit all the time.
On the other hand we were 8 (this was back in 1988), so I guess we got a pass.
In any case, you rock. Thanks for the video.

Fantastic game. Ace even (excuse the pun). Me and my friend used to play 2 player on this on a Commodore Plus/4 which ran it slightly faster as I recall. When you beat it, the game would jump to the high score screen and you would end up with a bunch of dots in the player name box as you had been pressing the fire button like a madman just beforehand. Great memories. Came in a cool hard plastic box too.

Looking for a game similar to this one. Any ideas? Platform: Commodore 64
Estimated year of release: Very late 80s
Opening music of the game is space odyssey theme.
You are controlling a plane and start shooting some chopters first.
Then you land on the ground and start shooting tanks coming at you, sliding right and left.
Then you fly again and start shooting jet planes that are faster than chopters in the first stage.
Finally, you shoot other black planes that come behind you and you can see them before they come from your rear mirror.
