I think, like a lot of us, Bob had gone through periods of being very close to the Lord, and other times, drifting too far from shore. Clearly, the years 1978-1981 saw him hanging on to a Solid Rock; a number of things seemed to change after that, and Bob was giving interviews saying "I've never said I'm born again", denying he was involved in "religion", and the result was Infidels, Empire Burlesque, he's not singing the songs from the gospel trilogy anymore. Then he seems to draw closer to his faith during the era of Down in the Groove/Dylan & The Dead/Oh Mercy. If Oh Mercy had followed Shot of Love, we never would have heard talk about Bob drifting away. Dylan's relationship with God is his business, it's private, and only he knows what that relationship is.

Dylan , told morely safer,(i think it was,on 60 minutes), that he made a deal with "the boss", before he got recognized, ...my personal opinion is that he started to re-asses that event and wanted to correct that "deal". Shortly after this phase of dylans recordings, he came out with the song "sweetheart like you", where the opening lyric states the "boss ain't here, he's gone north for a while". This line is straight out of the Isaiah verse where satan says "I will ascend the mountains in the north", ... once dylan got baptized his overall popularity tanked, from a secular standpoint, which may have happened anyway,...only God knows!❤

    • @ronfowlermusic
      @ronfowlermusic 8 дней назад +3

@@stevecollins5290 yeah, he sure wanted to put some distance between himself and the "born again" perception of him. I have a copy of an interview of him from 1983 where he gets annoyed about people still thinking he is involved in "religion", he says "religion is a dirty word". It took some courage, then, for him to start singing some of those songs again a few years later, and write the kinds of songs he was doing on Oh Mercy and Under the Red Sky.

Dylan said. “... I’m a religious person. I read the Scriptures a lot, meditate and pray, light candles in church. I believe in damnation and salvation, as well as predestination. The Five Books of Moses, Pauline Epistles, Invocation of the Saints, all of it.”Asked what “style of music” he considers to be his “first love,” Dylan answered, “Sacred music, church music, ensemble singing.” - Crosswalk 12/23/2022

I could criticize the Beatles and the Stones. Chick Corea. Miles and Dylan, off limits, over my head. I only came back to saving faith at 43, Christmas time of 2000, an outlaw for 32 years…..anyway, Thunder On The Mountain from 2006, he sang about standing besides His King, earlier in the song, I’m your servant both night and day. That was a sign, sure sign Bob knew Who Jesus was and Who He still is….I’ll have to make a note to read the interview just cause He intrigues me. Wordsmith like no other. I admire the way the Vineyard handled the conversion of Bob Dylan. They were low key publically and very supportive for his Growth in Grace and Knowledge. There's a lot to learn about God's full revelation. The only way is to Read the Bible, to Pray Sincerely and live a life that is pleasing to God.
Performers have the Most difficult time for all the false love and "be our spokesperson" stuff. Performers have to fight for privacy, to discern True friends and Grow themselves best they can. To insulate your inner self from the lies and deception that the devil and the world throw at you. Jesus Christ really DOES draw close when your sins are forgiven and you're living a True Life. God has a torch in your heart and a home in your soul. He is a Real Presence. So my Spirit affirmed that his conversion was True. I never met Bob but always loved his writing and his music...not all of it...but a fair amount of it. His trilogy was pure gospel. Full of Love, Faith and Hope. I still pray for Bob from time to time.

I owe a lot to Bob.
I was born again in 1981. In the awakening of Christ coming into my life, I was a singer and musician in my own band. Not much more than a garage band playing gigs on the weekends in Maryland Virginia DC region
I had albums at home from Bad company, Back in Black, the Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd The Outlaws along with John Denver and America.
A Christian friend at work Mike Steele said I should start playing Christian music and brought in three Albums, from his favorite singer. Bob Dylan.
Shot of Love, Slow train coming and Saved. I said, "Mike, I appreciate the brother, but I like stacks of Marshall amps and Les Pauls and Strat music. He said just listen to it.
That very day I went on an Amtrak train to unload it and there was an attendant sitting in the back after everybody had gone with a guitar and three song books. Slow train coming, shot of love, and saved.
He said here been, I heard you'd become a Christian. You can have these. I walked out the train and looked up into the heavens and said Okay God, I get your hands do you want me to play music that honors and glorifies your name, but I don't have to give up my amps and guitars. As much as I enjoyed Eddie and Angus I no longer wanted to sing Highway to Hell or run with the devil anyway.
Well I grew in God's grace and without a camera and luckily without a camera on me like Bob Dylan had to endure.
Can't imagine being under a microscope trying to grow in your faithe and preaching at the same time.
I preached the same way out in the open on the streets, to fellow workers at Amtrak and all my friends. But without the movie camera and fan base evaluating me. Today I love Jesus more than ever, live for his creation, encouraging and instructed by his Spirit in the word of God.
I married a sweet woman by faith 36 years ago, and we have four Delightful Children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren who on their own embrace Jesus Christ as Lord.
He really is alive, and is the most talked about person read about written about whoever walked on this Earth.
He might be talking to you. It's a simple surrender and trust in him.

12 minutes and 48 seconds or so they’re speaking of being safe from their pain and their alcoholism and their drugs which we all have been rescued from such things. But that is not salvation is it? Salvation is that we were once dead and now we are alive. Not we were once depressed and now we’re happy. Rather we were once dead and now we’re alive. I’m not trying to be critical, but I am trying to critically think as I listen to all brothers and sisters speak and they should listen well when I speak if they ever hear me. I’m very well may need to be corrected also at any given time.

The SNL show was cool, as I'm a huge fan of both Andrew Geoffrey Kaufman and Bobby Zimmerman. So cool they were on that episode together (they didn't interact, but they were both on the stage at the same time during the closing). Through the years Kaufman, for a laugh, talked about being a "song and dance man," which I think was a nod to Dylan calling himself that, jokingly as well, in the '60s. There's also a short story from '65 written by a very young Kaufman that talks about his admiration for Kerouac and Ginsberg (two individuals who heavily inspired Dylan). I definitely think Kaufman was a Dylan fan, hopefully Bob liked Andy too.

Anyone who doesn't think Bob Dylan is capable of disappointing people have very short memories! What about in 1965 when he went "electric"? How many fans called him a "Judas" and still harbor a grudge against him to this day for doing that? Having said all that, when it comes to Christianity, its very hard for any celebrity to convert and stay converted, especially ones like Dylan who experienced so much fame in their past lives as a "non believer". There is ENORMOUS peer pressure to fall back into your old lifestyle and party with your "old buddies" and "play the oldies" they remember. And many of them do fall away from the faith. But the ones who convert from the secular to Christian, who never had as much fame, they have often have very little to lose doing so

I’ve been following Jesus since I was 12 years old and I’m 64 I have a question at 10 minutes and 34 seconds in the video and speaking of how Lindsay and the gentleman said that summer things are many of the things that Hal Lindsey had written in his book and come the past. I would ask anyone here that can list any one thing that Hal Lindsey said as a prophecy that has come to pass to please post it so we can all learn. How Lindsey had to revise his prophecies in the book multiple times through edits. I’m not saying he wasn’t a brother in the Lord. I do not know that, but I know that the book was false, even though many of us read it and learned a lot because of it. We didn’t learn correctly. Good news is when we are called. In the Lord we can read and learn many things that are not correct, or have wrong teaching in them, but the Lord guides us through it all. I’m interested in seeing the rest of this video I most likely won’t comment throughout. God bless Everyone.

I need confirmation on this, but I suspect Bob was not fully convinced about Christian people because as a Jew, he could not go along with their trinitarian take on who God is. But Jesus got ahold of him.

That's because there is no trinity. " Hear O Israel, The Lord your God is one"

No disrespect meant, but why is the pastor of the vineyard here ( Bill Dwyer) saying that he as a believer still sins? That is not biblical

@ralphowen3367 We don't stop sinning until we reach heaven. Sanctification is the life long process of putting sin to death bit by big. Even the apostle Paul clearly recognized that he continued to siin in the book of Romans 7. In 62 years, I've never once met a perfect Christian - not even Ralph Owen! 😂 Scripture knows that we continue to sin post conversion, that's why the New Testament spends so much time telling us how to deal with it.

You are not being disrespectful. We are all humans, you, me and Bill Dwyer, and though we accept Christ, we are still sinners as we are in the flesh. 'Christ overcame the world' (John 16:33) and we can't even overcome ourselves, saved only through Christ's blood sacrifice for us. Walking in Him in faith and obedience because 'He first loved us' (1 John 4:19) is a game changer though. I hope this helps some. Blessings!

@brucefournier2391 Then you are saying that Christians are still sinners
That does not add up according to 1 Pet. 4:18, John 8:34, 9:31, etc..

@@ralphowen3367 Hi, I read those verses. There is a lot of context there, enough for a Bible study, but yes, we are. If not, why do we need to go to God to repent? There are those who believe in 'once saved always saved', but how many of us have 'back slid' and need to repent for our sin, from falling away from God. He loves us. We are still under His wing, but are and always will be susceptible to sin until death. We cannot be without sin as Christ was. It is a daily 'grind'. Like 1 Peter says in 4:18, it is hard for even the righteous to be saved in the flesh, as the more we draw closer to Christ in the Spirit, the more the enemy will have it out for us in this world. Regarding this, do you think I am
off base? Let's face it, no one has all the answers. God is quite the mystery. When we love Him and want to know Him better,
we can only do our best to comprehend that mystery.

The problem is show business.😮 not coming to Jesus. Jesus died not for fame but for obedience to God. Too much Dylan talk.

This is a wonderful documentary and I don’t mean to derail the comment section, but it seems like these kind of documentaries on RUclips suffer because they can’t play any of the actual music they’re talking about. Can we figure this stuff out?
