I had this game on my DSi for the longest time, and I have very fond memories of playing it as a kid. That flame cat has been in my mind for the past like 12 years, but I could never remember the name of the game and googling "fire cat dsi game" would only give me peoples poorly drawn OCs that had nothing to do with the game. Salty, I have to genuinely thank you for bringing this game back up from my subconscious and letting me get nostalgic over it.

I remember that this was one of the 2 games I specifically wanted to transfer to my 3DS, alongside the Zelda 25th Anniversary Four Swords game.

hello Mr. editor. As one of the few people here who own and have played this game I can safely say that you simply have not read enough crystal monsters lore you see the audience of mostly pure breeds can actually see the monsters through the monitor (the same one that was later destroyed) due to a revolutionary technology known as an X cam(not to be confused with an X-Form stone) which allows photos and videos of the monsters to be taken and this is exactly why the tournament is so beloved because is it one of the only times Non-neo seeds can actually see monsters(however why they would go in person instead of just watching through the TV at home is beyond me maybe they were all there to cheer on a participant
that's honestly really cool!
@@moonstrifflimestone5493 Glad somebody likes my useless knowledge this can all be figured out in the first room of the game if you talk to all the NPC's(and it even introduces thing which otherwise would seem to come out of nowhere like they do in this video(but if you want actual knowledge about this you'd be better off talking to my brother I haven't played much of this game in years except for the very beginning whereas he asked me to redownload it recently as he missed that(as well as some other DSIware titles that we used to have) and he's about halfway through currently)

@@henryapplebottom7231 why do I know this: I think I explained enough in my original comment and reply this is all pretty easy to obtain information from paying attention at the start of the game, as for why I care that's simple because why not if I know this information then why not share it it's fun and isn't going to harm anybody as for why I remembered this at the time it's because I found this video at a really good time of me just having re-downloaded this game so it wasn't too hard to remember those details

I love how many corners this game cuts like all characters having only one portrait, falling sprites just being a flipped standing sprite, and instead of making animations of enemies attacking you it just changes perspective

They didn't develop Sonic Runners but after they took Sonic Runners down Gameloft made Sonic Runners Adventure which pretty much sucked the life essence of the game.

I was so pissed
I honestly enjoyed playing through Crystal Monsters. It may lack a postgame, and the evolutions are all palette swaps (and nothing can be said of X-Forming that you haven't already wheezed about), but I found it to be a decently fun game.
I think I found a secret room with very vague instructions on how to breed the Final Monsters into your collection.
I think I even got one (after looking up what they were produced by)

I think Spirit also doesn't have a Final Monster.

You know, whenever someone says not Pokémon or criticizes a game for being to much like Pokémon we need to remember that Pokémon doesn’t own the monster catching genre, and were not the first to do it, not even close they just happen to be the most iconic
True but in this situation it's clearly a pokemon knockoff.
Monster Collectors as a whole were started by MegaTen but Pokemon has a very specific style of formula that people frequently try to copy.
Something like Digimon, Monster Rancher or Monster Sanctuary are their own thing while this is clearly trying to ride off Pokemon's success.
There's plenty of good games that are borrowing from the pokemon format (TemTem, Monster Crown, and Nexomon come to mind) but situations like this one are definitely "Great-Value(tm)" clones trying to get a piece of the pie.
Shin megami tensei deserves more recognition given how many persona fans are there.

I had this game when I was younger! I discovered a broken exploit that I would like to share with you all!
During Boss Battles, if you use the smoke bomb item to escape the battle, then the game thinks you won the fight, and you get to skip the boss entirely. pretty neat
I just used those smoke bombs as soon as I got them, caught a level 20ish rock rhino to survive the first attack, and beat the game in like 20 minutes

Probably a similar reasoning as to why a lot of media shows ghosts being shown in photographs but not visible to the naked eye? Idk.

I actually had this game as a kid! I forgot about a lot of its flaws, including the music and the animation. But I remember other annoyances, like how you can't actually evolve your monsters into a new form. But worse than that is, spoilers (sort of), you can't catch the final monsters. And worse than that is you can't even catch all the regular monsters, because you have limited space. But despite all that I did finish it and did have fun with it, I agree that despite first impressions it is different enough from Pokemon to stand out.
Also I completely forgot about the "X-form" thing, I probably saw how creepy it was and repressed my memory.

i played the shit out of this game when i was little and i remember being entirely unable to find the grass starter guy in my playthrough bc i was attempting to catch everything and i looked it up and i legitimately don't think you can get all the monsters unless you pick the grass one. truly fascinating game

This isn't the only gameloft game on the DSI that used the camera, there was tis platformer that made it so that if you took pictures of items of a certain color, they would become powerups. Not sure why that's a feature, seems kind of broken. The only reason why I didn't use it back then was because I played the game in a car, so that was a no go. The only way I could've gotten the color, would be to take pictures of our Pokemon Gen 3 games. Actually, I used to have a bunch of Pokemon games, but either they got lost, or I sold them (mainly the newer ones since they kind of bored compared to the older ones, especially Shield. This game reminds me of Moco Moco Friends on the 3DS since you have three monsters fighting for you at the same time. It doesn't have an insane game over though, you just retreat if you happen to lose.
I also find it obscure like this game and pretty much bought it for the heck of knowing what the gameplay looks like. Worth it!
It also gives off a bit of a Mystery Dungeon vibe since monsters have a chance of wanting to join you after the fight is over!
