I liked your comment of the millionth and one carb cleaning video. That's just the way it is. 90 percent is fuel system work. At least we get really good at it.
I like Honda's except for the tiny hole in the jet and tube. Thanks for everything George. I am doing a power tune on my Tecumseh 4hp. (valve grind stem). I hope to do a video of it and show off my new spring tool. Don't know when it will appear here on my channel. but it will.
Yes, I've had that also mainly with my Subaru engines, and in particular the cup on my SX-30 mounted on a snow blower. I try and make sure to replace the o-ring back up in before installing the cup or reset on the cup and reinstall. They can be a pain to deal with your right! Enjoying your videos! :-)
Get a funnel and a coffee filter and filter the fuel that way. It works really well and costs next to nothing. Also, an inline filter is a real good thing to get, I got one on my gx200n(clone). Cut's down on problems and crap, beacuse the tank is a bit rusty. It's over 10 years old, and that's something already. For a clone....
I've thought about using a coffee filter many times but have never done it. In fact I may start doing that just on random occasion ( like when the gas can is close to empty and I'm wanting to see what's in the bottom of it). There's no doubt when I'm ready to fill my tank , I'm in too big of a hurry and guilty of not doing something really simple. No doubt inline filters are great to have also. Very nice video Bruce and great fix ! And btw one beautiful golden retriever ! Dog lover myself..Thanks !
It filters everything and I really mean everything, unless you overfill the filter and it spills into the funnel. It is however a bit slow at the end (not much, just a little bit), because you don't have the weight of the liquid pushig down making it go fast. On diesel this is a problem at the end, it's really slow. With motor oil? Forget it one funnel, one night. But for diesel and gasoline, particularly gasoline, it works amazing. This and the inline filter are cheap and effective insurance agains carb problems, dirt what have you. And the coffee filter is less than a penny per filter, when they become clogged, just replace it in a heartbeat. Also, a funnel with a little lip on top to hold the filter is superior.
I need your help sir! I'm working on a B&S carb.(592679) The bowl was completely dry. Float, needle and seat all look fine. Took it apart and cleaned every passage and jet, and re installed. Have gas at the fuel inlet, but after running it several times with a shot of SF....the bowl is still dry. Any ideas? Thank you.
I don't know what SF is. but if you don't have gas in the bowl the passage from the inlet to the needle and seat is block or more likely the needle has come of the float and is blocking the seat. It hooks onto the float with the grove cut into the top of the needle. I use a piece short of fuel line and put is onto the inlet and blow with my mouth, the air should blow when the car is upright but upside down he float and needle should block the seat and there should be no air flow.
Bruce Pender SF is Starting Fluid. The needle is on the float as it should be. I guess i will pull it apart for a 3rd time. Thanks for your time Bruce.
Bruce Pender There is definitely a block in the passage between the inlet and seat. But 2 90 degree bends is preventing me from getting a wire deep enough to clear it. Carb cleaner and air at 100 psi ain't cuttin it. Thank you!
I wonder how you determined what plastic container would safely hold gasoline without melting or cracking? It has been many years since I discovered gasoline acted as a solvent on certain plastics. Obviously, you are not storing fuel in those white plastic cream tubs. I bought a filler pump/tube to fuel my generator, and decided it might not work with gasoline. It was made for fuel oil or kerosene. I wanted to buy an electric battery pump, but decided that could be dangerous. Thoughts?
Well remove the spark plug and see if there is fluid in the combustion chamber. Then pull the rope. If that is it you have a carburettor leaking fuel into the cylinder. The carb needs a rebuild or replacement.
what would make my IR compressor quit when it has to kick up to high speed for more air? i put a new carb on it, new air filter, fuel line and filter washed the tank with carb cleaner, new plug, changed the oil. sometimes it will quit when idling too but it will run for 30 minutes straight at high speed with no problems. it did thew same before i changed all those parts.
@@BrucesShop its similar to your machine and its just an air valve that makes the governor open up and there isnt much to clean on it. the machine has maybe 100 hours on it and nothing is sloppy so i cant figure whats wrong with it. its just about useless they way it is
@@BrucesShop i ran it today with fresh non corn gas and it did the same thing, but when i ran it with the choke half closed it was ok and would kick up without quitting so thats the way it will stay. in Oct 2018 i put all those new parts on and it was running fine with the choke open so i thought it was good to go but then it started acting up again. i never saw such a piece of crap engine as a honda, its the last one i will ever buy. i almost bought a new portable welder with a honda because they had such a good reputation, i dodged a bullet on that when i got the Onan engine instead, 1400 hours and never a problem. i would have went out of business if i got the honda.
@@mikecubes1642 Well you are almost there. Keep tinkering. I think the ethanol gas mucked up the new carb too. If you are running at 1/2 choke that means that is a clog in the carb. Good luck I get the frustration.
Il sell you one I don't use it some one owned me money it's just sitting in my yard I don't use it because I don't know much about it. One problem I stay in the city of Chicago.
Great easy fix Bruce. I like Hondas also. Can't wait for your Tecumseh fix coming up. What kind of screwdrivers do have in the video and where did you get them?
Right I do think the orifices i the carbs are too small. When a Honda comes in it is the first thing I check. Think of the dust on this compressor sitting outside in a sawdust pile.
My Mower repair shop told me i had contaminated the fuel with oil by tilting the Mower on its side to service the Carb Is this true as you dont seem to have the same problem. Machine is a Chinese cheep brand Sovereigh.(I know)
A million and one carb cleaning video, never get tired of watching them. Very educational, I've learned a lot watching your videos. Thx
Yeah Thanks Eric. As I only do a few machines a week my subscribers have to watch what I work on. Fuel, Fuel then really old governors. Fun for me.
Thank you. I've got the same problem. Exact same engine. It is just invaluable to see it taken apart.
Good for you. Did you fix it?

Very cool compressor and nice that it was a simple carb clean. Great camera work Bruce.
I am getting there with the camera
Another excellent video and repair! Thanks Bruce!
There are a lot of things that can go wrong with these. Sensors valves the compressor and yes once again fuel.
Got it sorted and no mistakes lol. Nice dog Bruce.
Thanks I look after him when his owners go away but he is one of the family.
I can see the family resemblance ;-) Its the beard lol.
Beautiful dog. Seems to mind pretty well. Looks like a golden. Great video too.
He is cool. That is YOGI. We babysit him once in a while. Golden you are right.
Nice unit .....I am glad my new mower has a Honda engine the are built well and they are easy to work on and get parts for
Yes you have a nice mower.
That carb sure had a poopy diaper. Good job, enjoyed watching as always! -Kevin
Yes. Poopy
Nice one. I love these engine videos.
They are so versatile.
Good job bruce, honda is a good motor, time for walleye fishing now
I have to go north for that but YES!!!!
Nice job and repair details, but did you also remove and clean out the sediment cup on the carb?
No I have had issues with them sealing after. I most likley should have.

I had a Suzuki one I had to fix with JB Weld

I use a shop towel. Same idea but a bit quicker than a coffee filter.
It works, and I have used it as well, but it does not work as well. I does not fit the funnel as well nor does it filter. In my opinion.

Try the short fuel line or just our mout. The float should let the air though one way and not the other. Remember it is already broken right!!!

One more thing (sorry) Blow carb spray from the seat back through to the inlet. There is probably crud back up against the seat.

Yes I would only buy an electric pump that was rated for gas. The diesel pumps are not the same.
nice repair
Thanks Dennis
Hello Bruce so my compressors engine got stuck when I try to pull the cord it’s just stuck do you know how can I fix this

Have you cleaned the valves that kick the motor to a higher seed? and adjusted the linkages, Sorry I am not there to help.

nice work. thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching CXC
I like the Hondas well made but like a Swiss watch for cleaning hahaha
Right I do think the orifices i the carbs are too small. When a Honda comes in it is the first thing I check. Think of the dust on this compressor sitting outside in a sawdust pile.
Sniffing gas and carb cleaner all day must suck. But most problems are fuel related in small engines so thats part of the job!!
You are right. I am trying to be more careful about the fumes and exposure.
I usually run a fan with garage door open, or a dust mask.
My Mower repair shop told me i had contaminated the fuel with oil by tilting the Mower on its side to service the Carb
Is this true as you dont seem to have the same problem.
Machine is a Chinese cheep brand Sovereigh.(I know)
It depends on how long it is tilted and the angle.
Rarely is it the governor, but often it is the carb.
Right, Lots of people want to fiddle with the governor but the shouldn't
Motor runs and stops after 5 minutes or 30 minutes plenty of gas new spark plug oil level is good why won't it stay running
It may be so many things. Honda's have coil issues a lot of the time. The little wires expand in the coil and go open electrically.
Bruce, W.C. Fields said never share the screen with a baby or a dog.
Yes he looks good on screen. Better than me.
