- Deobra Redden, the defendant who attacked a judge in her courtroom, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder. The change in plea came in the middle of his trial. Redden can be seen on camera leaping over the bench at Nevadas Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus. It happened as she was sentencing him for attempted battery, which he pleaded guilty to. Holthus was hurt as well as a courtroom marshal trying to protect her. Inside Edition Digital has more.
Whether mentally ill or not, he deserves to be in prison.
One of the smartest people on here ! ❤
He knew full well what he was doing
The criminal justice system depends on moral agency. If he had a psychotic episode that took full control of his brain then it is not fair to put him in a prison with those who have full control of their faculties. Successful insanity defences have the person in a psychiatric hospital to receive treatment.
@@Nathan-ht9sc I agree look if someone is disabled or mental illness you just prove it they belong in a mental asylum not in prison. Look you can't just lock up the disabled and the mentally ill that considers cruel unusual punishment.
You really know nothing about mental illness if he was mentally ill then the man needs doctors and medications not solitary confinement which will only insure more episodes like this one
He’s only sayin that cause he doesn’t want to go to prison
He's a victim of a corrupt system!!!
My thoughts exactly
@@Freaky-Malokai I was joking....he deserves to be jailed for at least a decade
@@adamagnusdefinitely a victim who didn’t get the proper mental health treatment prior, during and after his arrest
No excuse @@creamysauce5351
He did it out of anger when the judge regarded him. Not really sure if he has a mental illness
Whether he is mentally ill or not, he knew it was wrong! Big Jail Time!!
The judge antagonized him and he felt compelled to whoop her. Dude deserves to be in jail, no doubt. The judge should be reprimanded for her comments that lead up to it. Judges should be impartial and let the sentence do the talking. No need for commentary, just deal out the justice.
@user-cn4nt4vh6k nah, that's just soft talk. You probably think the judge should've talked to him like he's a child huh? He was in court for a reason 🤡
Anger issues IS A MENTAL ILLNESS!!!
"Mentally ill" is a weird way to say "angry at someone holding you accountable and trying to weasel your way out"
Actually those who have severe anger like that in abnormal amounts can be considered mentally ill. Anger is an emotion and too much of it can absolutely fall into emotional dysregulation and/or dysfunction.
It feels more of Anger issues than Mental issues ngl it feels like an what an person with extreme anger issues would do
He needs shock therapy
@@no.6522😂😂
thats a mental issue
reread that sentence to yourself carefully
so a mental illness?
The guy behind the judge was jumping up and trying to defend the judge the second he realized the defendant was trying to get to her. He needs a raise!
For doing his job?
@@maki9942He's a clerk, not a guard. It would've been completely justifiable if he backed off and just let the guards handle everything
@@maki9942 not sure what his job is but it’s probably not security since he’s not in a uniform and it’s usually Secret Service in suits. Regardless, even someone in uniform may not have reacted that fast. You just never know how someone will react “in the moment” but he stepped up. I just thought his reaction was worth mentioning.
@@maki9942 is not his job
That is NOT the job of the court clerk.
NO mental illness. All defense lawyers pull that card for their defendants.
Definitely a danger to society!!!!
I have a mental illness but I never attacked anyone. I don't use it as an excuse for anything and ask for no special privileges at work. I also have RA. My mind and body is in bad shape but for over two decades now I have pushed through and dealt with it and never committed a crime.
I don't either and i have schiz i still work full time even though its hell, i try to treat it like god chooses certain people to be able to witness the supernatural existing in this world, even though they tell me to do awful things i choose not to out of fear of the consequences, its really hard not to listen but i do it
There is mental health issues, and then there is being a psychotic violent narcissist.
I am mildly autistic and even I know that was 100% wrong!!
That’s the cleanest crazy guy I’ve ever seen 😂
YES I have been waiting so long for an update on this
Okay. I have a mental illness but you don't see me jumping on judges or do you? 😂😂😂😂
🤔💬 hmm... Wait
Whomp... Whamp!!
Claim mental illness = get out of jail card. That's the reality of this current judicicial system. It's been used most often in places like New York and they have often been let out back onto the streets without any accountability whatsoever.
With the terrible state that the mental health system is in, this man would have been better off going to prison. And good luck to him to prove himself mentally capable of reentering society.
He has no mental illness, hes just some delinquent thug who cant hold accountably for his own actions, the judge should just go with the insanity plea
Actually he does. It was mentioned in the court proceedings before he attacked the judge.
@@robinreels even if he had mental issues is stupid of them to use that as an excuse for behavior like that, if I had mental issues and attacked someone, does that excuse me
@@SteveCarskiyou don’t know that. You’re not qualified to determine if someone is mentally ill or not.
@@Tdwt18I'm more than qualified to determine his condition. He's insane in the membrane.
He is not mentally ill. He is a WASTE OF SPACE 😂😂😂😂
Yeah, I don't believe he was mental. That was deliberate after he was found guilty.
If I was looking at jail time in my future, I'd also claim mental illness 😅😅
And whose fault was it that Mr Redden had not been taking his medication?
I think that he might have been in custody leading up to the attack, so therefore the jail. I'm not 100% on that but he came in in cuffs.

Shame on those officers for letting this maniac attack the judge while leaping on her.
He needs to stay locked up
For life and no parole
Wow his angry issues
I got them too but we have to learn to control ourselves, you don’t see me super girling over to the judges because of it girl you know what I mean lol 😂😂
I think he’s bipolar. He needs to really control his anger and continuing taking his medication
@@Sinneranne& counseling as well.
All that wasted talent…. Paris Olympic high jumpers didn’t clear a bench like that!!!
KEEP THAT MAN IN PRISON, HE'S A DANGER TO SOCIETY!!
I'm impressed with his athleticism
Yeah, as dumb as that was, still impressive to make that leap in dress-clothes.
Dude turned into a jet

Crazy man is crazy. Shocking.
Watch he's gonna jump this judge too.
Hell, he missed his opportunity in a life of sports with a leap like that.
FACTS. THE SAME THING I WAS I WAS THINKING
even if he's not crazy. he's too dangerous. his behavior is unacceptable
I’ve heard of the expression, “Throw yourself on the mercy of the court.” But I think that guy took it the wrong way 😂
I am so sick of ppl using mental illness as an excuse. Jail! Throw the key away!
Still amazed how he flew over the desk
Flew like Goku
“The bailiff WILL tackle you!” Legal Eagle popped into my head.
Why do we blame mental illness for this when it's clearly an anger issue.
Need A Moment? You're not you when you eat a snickers bar 🍫
I feel bad for this judge.
Even more reason he should be put away for many years to come.
Flying leap!
This is so stupid. He claims he did it due to his "mental illness" yet we all know damn well he was pure angry. There is no way he's gonna get out of this.
"I'm sorry I just can't with the history of charges" Mary's famous last words
I have PTSD and anxiety and I've never went out and hurt anyone. Most of the time we stay in the house and we avoid every negative thing. He is a liar he doesn't have mental illness. He's a dangerous person to society. His mother should be ashamed of him.
Automatically unacceptable and should get 10 to 15 years for assaulting a judge carrying a prison sentence for the defendant.
If you're mentally ill and that strong and agile, thats even more reason for you to be locked away.
Sometimes I roll my eyes and these mental health pleas, but if you do something like that you ain't quite right.
Pills don’t keep you knowing right from wrong.
He could've been a professional athlete, but chose to be a crook instead.
How far can "Mentally Ill" be used to hurt someone?
That leap was crazy should’ve be in the Olympics
Even if he was mentally ill he was sane enough to understand what he was doing was wrong. He is only saying that because his attack on a judge wasn’t premeditated
is the mental illness the one that briefly turns you into a hunter in l4d2
He should join the Olympics guy got mad hurdles
That's what I said seriously! That was very very high he didn't even flinch
Pills or not, he almost tried to kill her. Lock him up.
All he did was leap....He didn't have any weapon.
@@JadaS_BeyondHe was to be sentenced before that and jumped her for her sentencing. America has enough angry criminals walking around hurting others. It’s time for him to do his time which is the law.
Keep him in prison.
He's not mentally ill.
Black privilege
Not taking meds that you know you need is NOT A DEFENSE!! No excuse, big jail time!!
This alone just tripled his jail time
Deobra if you read this, congrats and have fun there
Guilty
Lock him up!
He didn’t claim, his lawyer gave that idea as usual 😅😅..
the lawyer must be charged first for false claim and so the doctor if involved just for his money
Booo hoo am a schizophrenic and I wouldn't do this
The guy who reacted by defending the judge is awesome
Who cares if he does have a mental illness. Mental illness doesn't mean you get to attack people and aren't responsible. Same prison time as anyone else. Also, he said he wasn't taking his medication, which is also his fault
Claiming mental illness is not going to release him from prison.
Such a kind man!
He jumped over the counter to give the judge a big ol hug for the light sentence
Don’t they all?
Can someone please explain to me why do judges have both security and police officers all around them and nobody does anything to stop the criminals
Because the Supreme Court’s have ruled that Police have no legal obligation to protect you
That should change and make them have a legal obligation to protect us
left for dead 2 moment
Using ‘mental illness’ as an excuse is disgusting. Actually mentally-ill? Claim mental illness. Actually coherent, but don’t want to be held accountable and face prison time? Claim mental illness.
I love the fact that when people attack judges, then they do something, but when they're not under attack, they unleash them into our streets.
That is crazy to see the judge as the witness that recounts an incident in a courtroom. This is like an inception moment.
Even if he is ill, since he was not taking his medication to control his illnesses, then he is guilty too.
bro so him being mentally ill means that he can js be not guilty for JUMPING ON HER
I don't care if it sounds cold but it doesn't matter if he's mentally ill or not... Just like that kid who attacked the teacher for taking his game. The reason is irrelevant
Completely forgot about this guy, lol.
Too easy an excuse for uncivil behaviour
sure... mental illness I should try and use that excuse each time
Whether mental health or not he doesn't have the right to attack the judge
so if I attacked someone, and said I’m mentally ill, I’ll just get away with it and get a lower case charge? BET
If this happened to the US Supreme Court that would the the most serious consequence than any court.
That's definitely not mental illness but anger issues. 😮
*The claim of mental illness can sometimes be used as a manipulative tactic by individuals seeking to mitigate the consequences of their actions*
Give him a 10 day contract 🏈
He's only saying this because he finally got punished and didn't catch a break like he had before the attack.
Sounds like a fancy way of saying im lying and i dont want to go to jail
He just proved why he needs to be in prison or mental asylum
I don't see the attempted murder
this proves how much Mental Illnesses can affect you. I’m glad she said so calm. ❤
That’s not attempted murder.
The final fantasy video of this is damn hilarious
He needs to read a dictionary
The definition of mental illness isn't hateful of someone holding him accountable
“Your honor, my client is accident prone. He simply fell on you.”

That's his fault that he didn't take his meds. No one has the right to attack the judge like that regardless of circumstances.
It's not mentally ill it's just his genese
Gene's * bein a dum hillbily is in your genese 😂
I had to go to the emergency room because my heart stopped when I saw the video.
Not mental health more like Anger issues
He ain’t mentally nothing….
This was a while ago so I don't have any sources, but from what I remembered, that court room wasn't originally build as a court room and had a lower ceiling than what was ideal. Because of that, she was pretty much on ground level rather than having an elevated seat like you would normally think they'd be sitting on.
The judge seems calm, likeable and logical. Not imperious type at all !
Excuses! don’t let him out never
That's very unmerciful. All because we saw a Black man leap over a judge stand, and onto her.....People have brains, and some come into realization that what they did was wrong, so they ask for forgiveness and they apologize.
