Thank you for the measurements, list of tools and parts, and video. I am about to attempt this exact upgrade on mine and your information and experience should help immensely. Also, thanks for the beer recommendation. Gonna tell my wife “hey, its part of the requirements. I want to do this righ.” Haha
1/2" copper tubing will work. I took care of the slop by centering it on the axle, and filling the space with solder. Flux the inside of the tube, and capillary action sucks the solder right in.
Hey thanks for the inspiration. For the driving wheels, i was able to reuse the holding washing and I didnt have to put on the small piece of PVC. The push nut was tight to fit on, but a little persuasion and it went a long way on.
The Bearded Hobbit they are rubbing a little on the body of the wagon. We havent used ir much so it hasnt been too much of a pain. My wife was exhausted the first time she pulled it lol
Forget the push nuts, they suck. Just drill a hole through the end of your axle rods, install wheel, slap on a flat washer and pin it with a cart carter pin just as any old plain hand truck is configured. DONE. 👍 "R" clip is nice idea as well: ruclips.net/video/gllOGTfPNQU/видео.html
Hey bro great video and happy holidays! Have you found issues when you have it pretty loaded and you go to turn, and the articulation is almost non existent, one wheel gets stuck, one is turned the other way etc etc and you have to lift the wagon off the ground to turn it? Have you run into that? Drives me nuts. Trying to find a another shaft to put on that maybe holds the wheels on directly below in a “fork” style fashion like the front Of a normal bicycle in a sense lemme know -G
Yes, I have had that happen, but to be fair it happened with the old wheels as well. That front wheel design is not great for off-roading. I'm not quite sure what the fix would be.
Go to a good hardware store and get some 1/2 id 5/8 od bronze bearing sleeves. They slip right on the axle and the wheel slips right on them. Takes about 10 min. None of this messing around with pipes plastic tubes,
What are 1/2 id 5/8 od bronze bearing sleeves? Can someone show me a link? So all I need are four 1/2 Id 5/8 bronze bushings, four wheels from harbor freight and 4 new push nuts to complete the swap?

I found some longer ones at a local hardware store. I’m sure with a little looking you can find exactly what you need on line.
1/2 inch cpvc is a lot easier and cheaper. Worked great. Just a heads up for anyone looking to do this.
how has the tubing held up? Has it worn out over the years?
It held for quite some time. I no longer have the wagon though for a long term 2+ yr report.
This is awesome! Thank you, from a mum in Australia 🇦🇺

Why wouldn’t you replace the original 8” with the ATV 8”?
The best type of wheels are shopping cart wheels ( from the supermarket) because they are kept on with screwed on nuts at the end of a bolt like axel.

bobc35 how are the wheels holding up without the PVC?

bobc35 Gotcha. Yeah, the old tires are great for flat streets. Taking ours off road, these tires has made a world of difference.

Thanks for the information about the spacers.
Any updates?
Awesome job! Planning on doing this to my little girl’s wagon. Where can I find 5/8” od x 7/16 id PVC tubes?
Earl Justearl I found some on Amazon.
1/2 inch cpvc does the trick cheap and easy. Lowe’s or whoever carries plumbing.
how does it do in sand with a load?
It does do better with the wider tires, but anything with weight in sand is still a pain to pull.
I tossed the push nuts and drilled the axles for cotter pins. Lots easier to work with .
Nice. Yeah you could go hog wild with upgrades. I went with quick and dirty. Glad you got it rolling.
How has it held up?
Very well actually. Definitely helped as the kids got bigger.
Thats awesome. Any idea on roughly how long the final cut of clear tubing was?

Would these tires work on a sandy beach?
I've never tried them on the beach, but I suspect they would work better than the nsrrow wheels.
Just what I was looking for

That would have been awesome. I did hit a few places but no such luck. Good tip.
I had to go to 4 different places. But it was so much easier. They are available on line.
@@Hobbitbuilds i am about to do the same thing but i just ordered bearings to swap the ones out of the harbor freight wheel

How can you clean a plastic wagon to look like new
I've had success with magic erasers.
Nice setup
Has anyone tried the larger tires in the sand ?
They work pretty good on sand and are great for the transition to a boardwalk.
thank you! want to change the tires on my lil one's wagon.
Wheels where?
So cool!
Thanks, it was a fun build.
Well done!
