They are BLACK AFRICANS, they do not represent BLACK Caribbean. We are two different people. As black Caribbean we have the same names as you we speak the language. The only difference between us is your ancestors were taken to America, mine were taken to the Caribbean. They were lucky their ancestors weren't taken. Black British love and respect our American brothers for all the struggles we as black people have face and still having to endure.

In the story, the father was critical that his daughter was marrying a man of a different tribe but when she suggested that he was American, the father said he is the son of a slave and I was surprised how the students who were Nigerian laughed at that comment which we Americans did not find very humorous. This suggests to me that some cultures in Africa have a built-in caste system that people are born in and can be discriminated against based on one's ancestry

Yes, there is and has always been [for a great majority, not all] from native Africans this eagerness to eagerly seperate from but even greater this want to despise 'Blacks' not of Africa, particularly, those Blacks in America whose anscestors, thru no fault of their own, were captured and sold in slavery. Of course, this extends to their descendents, US today!
They frequent often this shamefulness on modern day 'Blacks' here for this. Even to the point of feeling that we are no part of them.
To many Africans American 'Blacks' are to them a totally different 'species', we are aliens, as it were! Some caribbean Blacks do this as well. As well as shown in the Vdo do those living in white, foreign lands such as England/GB.
But, cultural differences notwthstanding, the Diaspra and, even time itself can NEVER negate that we are one race.

Black British African here - and what they said was an oversimplification and not strictly true. My mother was descended from freed slaves who were repatriated back to West Africa and my father was Nigerian, so my ancestry combines a variety of cultures, languages and history encompassing enslavement, escape, freedom and in both sides there is a cultural richness, of which I am rightfully proud. Throw into the mix people from Africa who chose to change their names for convenience, simply because their original names were hard to pronounce by English speakers and the many Africans going back several generations who have European surnames - Welsh, Scottish, English, Portuguese, even Scandinavian - and the picture becomes even more colourful.
There are some aspects of behviour by some black Americans that I don't like - the casual use of the N-word for example - but, ugly as it is, it reflects their struggle and there is a history behind it which I don''t relate to but can at least understand so I try not to judge - these young fellas should learn to do the same.

I never knew nothing about the enslavement of our people in America and the racism they suffered not until I came here and had to see and suffer it myself. They also insult our continental brothers and sisters in the Netherlands, France, Portugal and elsewhere, many of whom were forced to take on European names. Remember also that there are many people of Indian extraction from the province of Goa who also have Portugese names.
Sadly, every community has some people who will make assinine comments for the sake of their own self-aggrandisement.
See how they dress, watch their demeanour, mimicking African-American swagger.
My parents arrived here (UK) in 1962 and saved and bought a house in 1965. After their divorce, my mum rented a room to a Nigerian couple who were always late paying the rent.

Your surnames? English, Welsh and Scottish settlement in America predates Ellis by a LONG time (you know the founding peoples of the US of A). Only Irish came later (Not including Ulster Scots/Scot-Irish) who didn't change their names to yours. It was you blks adopting Irish names like Tyrone and every surname that starts with O'.

The families of these young men are new arrivals to Britain and are unaware of the history and culture of the traditional black British population which is primarily of Caribbean descent as well as former British west African colonies like Ghana and Nigeria.
In recent years the new arrivals have come from other parts of north and central Africa, formerly French colonies etc.
The traditional black British population very much identifies with the African American population. We are one and the same - same history, same language, same struggles similar names. Our numbers may be decreasing of late but do not take that podcast as an example of black British attitudes towards African Americans ❤

If they actually think that they have fully assimilated into English culture then let them come here and show us! Some worship the Queen there the way some media black conservatives worship Trump and conservative Republican politics here! Our problem is we barely know who we are and know even less about blacks every where else in the world. Especially about our hair!

Phillip, I have watched many of your shows. We all know the history of the forced adoption of African names and we need to contextualise why, in this age, the need to recover our culture in spite of European brutality. If you don't know there was once a trend in the US during the Black Power era when some conscious African Americans dumped their save names, like writer LeRoi Jones who became Amiri Baraka and Prof Maulana Karenga. It is not confined to the US but the whole Pan African world. So you shouldn't trivialise it by attacking the young men. Ditto suits an imposed standard by Europeans rejected by conscious continental Africans and those in the African world.

The truly sad thing is, most British, Scottish, Irish (etc) last names that Black Americans and Caribbeans possess are their original names. They are in no way slave names. This is simply a story told to make you believe every person from Europe was "White". If you read older literature you will see very quickly that many Scottish clans, the Welsh, the Irish and parts of England were peopled by brown and black complexioned people. This is also reflected in the family crests of hundreds of families throughout the British Isles that bear the images of distinct people with dark skin and curled hair, now just collectively called Moor's heads.
But a very clear example of this "slave master" surname fallacy is Jamaica. Jamaica was a slave colony for the British Isles, and many rebels, prisoners of war, unwanteds, etc were shipped to Jamaica from the British Isles. A study was conducted regarding the various Irish names that people have in Jamaica. The findings were that the Irish last names of many of the Black people there had no correlation to any slave owners, as there were not any slave owners or land owners of any sort, with those names, even on the Island since British obtained it.
Point is, it is important to learn the truth about history on your own. Simply accepting the information you learn, by the same people you acknowledge have white supremacist ideologies, is a bad idea. You are going so far as to speaking about changing your last name based off the teachings of people who have always had animosity towards dark skin. The name "Scott", literally means "dark/black". Most names in the British Isles were given based on your appearance or profession (i.e. Brown, Tailor, Blackman, etc). Scotland literally means "Land of the Blacks", just like many names throughout Europe. Dublin for example, means "Bay of the Blacks", as "Dubh" literally means "Black". Please focus on learning beyond what you are being taught in any education system, as they are all controlled by white supremacists who will try to get you to doubt everything about your true self. If anyone would like, I can start recommending books for you to see evidence of the Black people throughout all of Europe.

    • @LS-jv9hp
      @LS-jv9hp Месяц назад

pahahahaha Oh my gods, you're not British. Blacks aren't and never were British or apart of any Celtic peoples. Stop with the delusions man, it's sad.
But anyway lets point out your lies through this "Scott" theory of yours. BTW Scott comes from Scoti which was what the Romans called all Gaels no matter if from modern day Scotland or Ireland but let's delve into the languages of all people involved. (Since you funnily enough didn't mention which language Scott translates to with that ;) )
      Black:
Old Latin: N1ger and Ater (For the Romans)
      Scottish Gaelic: Dubh
      Welsh: Du
      Irish: Dubh
      Dark:
      Old Latin: tenebris
      Scottish Gaelic: dorcha
      Welsh: tywyll
      Irish: dorcha
Not a single one of these
Dublin, it comes from Dubh (Dub) Linn (Lin) which means Black Pool. Not Bay of the Blacks. Which is a translation from what the Vikings called it Due to the River Poddle and Liffey which has peat staining it giving it's iconic black hue. (Note these Vikings came from Norway, a country that has no Peat at all making it a pretty new sight too see and memoriable for these settlers)
Moors heads? Those are symbols of early European racism taught to Europe by Arab muslim conquerers in Iberia through showing off their black slaves. Arabs saw blacks as beneath them and tried to convert Christian lands. European Christians eventually beat the Arabs off and used the heads as two messages, 1. to tell the Arabs their as inferior as their slaves and 2. a message they will be kylled if they try to come back. Theres a reason Clan MacLellan Moor Head has a sword going through it (You know, the one you're trying to claim as black lmao).
