    • @JLsAutoSolution

      the seal is internal of the coupler and is mounted to the Diff portion. there should be no oil in between the coupler and diff, that would indicate a leak.

    Anyway to test these before removing them to make sure that’s the problem? Plus is there anyway to make sure that the differential isn’t bad also? Since my wife heard a thump and lost awd there’s been no road noise at all from the back. Idk if that’s good or bad. My first rodeo with an awd.

    Hi Jeremy. You made short work of that! How does the coupler function? Is it 4WD proper (all or nothing) or is it an AWD (by degree) system on this vehicle. The coupler on my AWD SX4 is duty cycle controlled from the 4WD module (yes they mix terms) depending on F & R differential wheel speeds forwarded by the ABS module via the CAN bus. But the manual really contains no details (black box) with respect to how the coupling is carried out within the coupler itself. Have had very little luck finding any text book description of operation on this...Sorry for the dragged out question. Cheers Pal

    • @JLsAutoSolution
      @JLsAutoSolution  4 года назад +2

      Hi Ian, Sorry for the late reply.
      This is actually a pretty simple replacement, as long as there are not to many seized bolts.
      Now to answer your Question.
      The 4WD system Communicates through CAN, it receives various inputs from the ABS/ECU which include TPS/Input Torque/ RPM/Wheel speed.
      Now once the inputs are received it regulates the coupling motor through pwm which inturn controls the internal clutch packs. The power/ground for the motor is supplied directly from the 4WD module.
      To date, I have not had any electrical issues with a 4wd coupling, all have been mechanical.
      Stay safe and enjoy the nice weather.

      Yes I have but not for that reason.. mainly for sift shock while driving..
      I have not yet the luxury of replacing the splines for the ptu(transferase) I have rebuilt the transfer case due to leaking seals but beyond no other repairs.. I believe it's due to me being at a dealership. I don't really see any vehicles past 100,000 km. except for when the independent garages cannot fix an issue..
      but depending on the model 4cyl or 6cyl there are a few differences when removing the transmission, on a 4cyl I can do it with the subframe in spot, but on a 6cyl the subframe needs to be removed..
