So not advised to fly in the rain, but ok to fly over a live VOLCANO and send drone to its death 🤣, just joking Ian 😁

Good tip I found is when you finish flying in cold weather put the drone in a zip lock plastic bag before taking it back inside in the warm, it stops all the condensation forming on it and all the circuits inside. Once equalised in temp you can take it out

I did a flight with my Mini 2 in December 2021 from a house we were renting in Chester, right on the banks of the River Dee. It was a bit breezy in the back garden but nothing that the drone wouldn't normally handle, so took of to take some pictures of the city from the far side of the river. First clue that all was not well was when I was amazed at how quickly it had actually crossed the river. Went into a hover to think about it and set up for the pics and was horrified to find it was drifting away! First thought was to land it straight away, get in the car and drive across to retrieve it (fortunately it was over Earl's Eye, a large open public space). Then I thought lets try to get it back, so into Sports Mode and dropped down to around 20 ft above ground (from light aircraft flying I know the thing about wind increasing with height). The bit crossing the river was rather worrying as it took a long time (but I did have plenty of battery remaining) but I managed to recover it OK! The back garden was in fact very sheltered from the strong westerly wind by three story houses and rising ground.

Strong wind part particularly relevant, happened last week to me, where I was blown too near the M6 for comfort, but was able to recover, keeping low and able to see my drone really helped the recovery, was quite a nerve racking experience, of which I learned a lot

Up here in the hills above Oldham, even if I drop height, still blowing a hooley around me and my Mini 2 (ha). Add in rain - horizontal at times- not been much opportunity to fly for the last 2 months!!! Keep checking in with UAV forecast app, still not looking good but o know one day I’ll have the best 5 minutes flying experience soon - lol!! Thanks as usual Ian. Always useful videos to watch and learn from. Take care.

I was out today with my brand new Mini 4 Pro in about -2, -3 Centigrade. Maiden flight, yay! I have 4 batteries and of course wanted to get the most out of the session. Fingerless thick gloves on, but still - after almost 2 hours on that hill I could hardly feel my fingers 🥶🥶🥶

Great tips. I live on Southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia and have not been able to do much as we have had two months of rain with one snowfall that lasted a few days so not much flying for a while. I have the Air 3 and the Mini 4 pro and find that the Mini is flyable about 80% of the time except when we get high wind gusts along the coast line. I often take my Mini with me when I go out on my ebike as I prefer using it in the forests due to its size with the added feature of the four way obstacle avoidance. The downside to the Mini is the batteries but I have purchased the batteries with extended flying time so that helps. The recent firmware update is a big bonus to the Mini.

Another great video. North Wales a few years back with the Mavic Mini on top of a mountain. It was very misty. No wind whatsoever. I know I shouldn't of flown. Took off for a short low altitude (relative) to capture some scenery and after a few minutes became uncontrollable and was lucky to get in down, although with a thump - no damage. phew! Love my Mavic Mini, even now.

Hi Ian. The South Carolina beach can get quite windy almost every day. 17mph with gusts over 25mph makes me ground my Mini 3 and 4 Pros and go to my Air 3. I too am unable to fly this weekend as well with a wet cold front moving through the southeast, so I tagged you with a holiday flight I made this past Thanksgiving weekend when I visited the beach.
    Cheers, Brendan

Great informative vid 👍 on the subject of lens fog , I had nothing but trouble with my mini3pro fogging up pretty much every flight once summer ended , I’ve removed the rubber ring around the internal lens and it’s been perfect in all weather conditions.. not really sure of the need for the ring now tbh

As Francisco said, “For this relief much thanks: ’tis bitter cold,” And I thank you, Ian, for this relief and good advice. I continue to fly here in wintry Wisconsin, U.S.A. and follow your good counsel. I love the wind, for as my dear friend Shelley told me: the wind is, “Destroyer and preserver.” And in the context of your discussion, one must fly away against the wind and fly home with the wind to avoid destruction and, thus, be preserved. With great anticipation I await a report from the Lake District and my spirits residing there. Adieu

Thank you George! There was a mix of sun, snow, rain and lots of wind.... Hopefully your Wisconsin winter is a little more predictable. But given that one cannot change the direction of the wind, let's hope we haven't flown past our greatest moments and that there is something beautiful on the horizon that's just as impatient as I am. Something so eager, it wants to meet me halfway. 🤠🤠. Fly Safe!

As ever Ian, wonderful and fabulous advice. So following statement mainly aimed at your viewers - I often use an App called UAV Forecast and basically it states when it's "Good to Fly" taking into account many factors such as Wind up to 400ft, Temperature, general weather, and your GPS. At present I have paid a very small sub fee of around £6 to enable 48 hour forecast - you can pay a bit more to give a week's forecast. Have to say, that it's surprisingly accurate and provides good information including a cool Map feature showing DJI Fly Zones.
So Ian i reckon this is worth a shout as you can also put in and save as your favourite where you currently are as well as a prospective location you'd like to visit and get some cool footage. Anyway, hope this little additional snippet helps you out, cheers Ian, take care.

I recently found the mini 2 se suffers from the internal fog, trouble is you don't see it at the time it's only later on viewing on a PC, I had thought I had a sensor problem as it only started to appear when the camera pointed towards low sun. Turns out, it's as you turn into wind/breeze. Still testing the acclimatisation period.

I fly an air2s and i really wish people would mention that people who fly regularily in the mountains, should get and air model or higher as the winds, etc in the mountains will totally wreck a mini

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  4 месяца назад +1

I make the specific point that that's not the case. The Mini 3 or 4 will handle mountain winds very well, as I've proved many times. The Air 2S is a brilliant model, and was my favourite, but the later Minis should not be dismissed as poor choices for strong wind. That said, my next video makes your point quite well. Hopefully that's out next week 👍🏻👍🏻

On top of that our recent snow was actually wet! Suffice to say, not had my wee Mini 2 up in the air for the last month and UAV forecast suggests will be a while yet!! Thanks for the video tho’Ian. Hoping I get a wee window to fly soon. Always useful tips from you. Take care.
