The major issues in the industry is the low pay in the major carriers long wait times at shippers and receivers and the ports. Have you been to a truck stop at night theres never enough parking i really doubt theres a shortage.

i got my cdl around 1996 and i have been driving everything from tandem dump trucks and i owned my own triaxle dump truck for years and i have driven dump trailers vac trailers and everything in between i never ran over the road i only ever worked local because it never made sense to me to go over the road if the pay and benefits werent there why would i go otr when i can make 20 dollars an hr get fully paid for blue cross ins for my entire family and a 401k and profit sharing and safety bonuses and be home every night its so sad that out of the 12 plus companies i have worked for there is only one company i would ever work for again if i could you are 100 percent accurate about your views and beliefs on trucking and its so sad how the world views truck drivers we get no respect and get treated like garbage by shippers dispatchers receivers and the dot and we have one of the most difficult and strenuous jobs there is and yet we are still supposed to do our jobs and not complain and show up with a good attitude everyday things are only going to get worse because carriers have to care about their drivers and nobody cares about truckers, keep up the good work i really enjoy your channel and your insight
Excellent presentation and counter arguments and I agree with all of your points.
Many times there are people with no staying power and just float from on job to the next. We have great accounts at my carrier and I have established my reputation with them.
Hardly do live loads but do not wait even long enough to get a nap in when it’s live. What I love about my company is when drivers are standing around in the shop trying to get repairs approved, my company is bouncing that eShop back to the service counter so I can get rolling again! 👏🏼🥇
There’s so many more nuances to this than just the money.
I started driving in 1996 strictly for the money and I stayed for the freedom and scenery
I saw the video and commented about how little “CNBC barely talked about the government getting involved in trucking when it’s one of the biggest reasons”
"Safe" parking for big trucks is huge. Safe, clean, parking with food and rest room facilities is a whole other issue BUT you mentioned trying to problem solve that issue. If you plan backwards with dedicated routes, that issue is achieveable.

WOW! Great video! I had to literally take notes. Question: I agree for those who uses dispatchers, they're an essential part of this industry. Dispatchers have to stay loyal to their carrier, but can they overload themselves with carriers and push out loads at any cost so they can make their fortune? I hope you understand the question.
Thank you! I think i understand your question. I believe you’re asking “could i undercharge everyone as a dispatcher and still make a fortune if i can take on a bunch of carriers?”
The quick answer is… it depends.
Your reduction in price has to come from some sort of efficiency in your business that your competitors can’t replicate or makes it hard for them to replicate. You can’t just charge less than others because you feel like it. Yeah you technically could and you’ll get a lot of clients BUT, your margins will be razor thin and a few unexpected rise in costs will wipe your company out.
If you want to charge less than your competitors, your expenses also have to be less than your competitors. That way… you’ll have the same margins (theoretically) but you’ll get a lot more clients and in effect, make a lot more money!

Some co pays 68cpm, but cheat ya out of break down ,& detention pay. So I left.
This was a great breakdown of the industry and provided a lot of needed expansion on quick talking points from the video.
I've worked for U.S Foods and Black Horse Carriers. Both companies pay 110k- 150k+ home every night. Off on weekends.
$150k a y. a week a day or an hour!? gross as owner operator or $150k as W2 after tax employee a y. a month etc. , you should not confuse people with this Kinde is statement.

knowledgeable information. a friend of mine whos like a brother was a driver in 2019, i think, and lasted less than a year because of how the dispatcher he was dealing with were causing more issues for him and his health was rapidly decreasing from being skinny like me to getting fat.
The school he graduated from is in Memphis, i believe, and he drove a company's peterbilt

My wife asked for divorce because off burning my ass driving for MF rich people make them thousands of dollars every day. they promised you Home every week and never happened. If you have a good job close to your family Just try to keep it. Truck Driver are not appropriate in this country. you have no life as driver your life will be in the road and you will end up in the road driving as a truck driver is like a disease never stop. If you want to be a truck driver never work for big companies if you want the money
100% agree. Unfortunately new drivers will always have to drive OTR but as soon as you have 1-2 years of experience, find a job where you can work regional routes only. You’ll be home 3-4 days a week and still make more than what local routes pay.

What is a good company to start off in? I was thinking Prime?
As much shit as they get, i think the big companies are great places to start because you will receive the best training and practices for safe operation. Their wages and routes are horrendous which is why it’s best to leave after a year or so for a smaller or mid sized company where you have more say.
If Every company driver makes at least 150k, then there will be zero shortage of drivers. Stop being cheap.
Yeah but $150K is extremely unrealistic. Working regional only for 60hrs a week can net you $100K. Anything more requires OTR work which many don’t like.
