    I’m currently near the end of the first one, so I’m really excited to play 2 & 3. Kinda bummed to hear that the checkpoint thing wasn’t fixed, but that’s a minor con compared to what the rest of the game has to offer!

    Hot tip about the save point bit: you can go into the select/minus/pause menu and save from there. Kinda weird that the game never brings it up, but it's there nonetheless.

    Really love this series! Fond memories of playing the first entry many times over thanks to the extra characters GV, Shovel Knight, and Shantae. They seem to keep finding ways to tweak the gameplay to keep the games interesting. Looking forward to playing through this finale! Though I do agree on the checkpoint save thing, they really should fix that!

    Also, you can use the checkpoints to releport to previous areas, including those of previous maps. All you have to do is press the button that appears above the checkpoint while being on it, and then you cna select the area you want to teleport to.

    A few design hitches, yes, but Inti Creates once again delivers marvellously. And at an amazing prize too!! Inti Creates FOREVER!!
    Just bought it, will have to sit as dessert after I finish Ori and the Will of the Wisps (for the second time, some games take priority even in that case), but that gives a chance of me playing the game after ye classic day-1 patches, and such.
    It's going to be a good Metroidvania August!

      @maximumforce8275 3 года назад

      Theres a funny glitch that I accidentally stumbled upon in the final boss fight. So if you choose jason and are about to die while sliding on a wall, a certain thing will happen and you'll be healed but I think during the scene you still move thus creating a glitch where your tank is stuck in the wall climb animation and you cant use certain attacks and cant hump or turn around. So be careful of that. Also at the lebienz fight if you lose the game closes for me. So be careful of that and ve sure to save.

      Maybe you can help me out. I hugely enjoy both Metroid and Castlevania games. I also hugely enjoyed Blaster Master Zero 1. I tried some Will of the Wisps, but it didn't feel like a Metroidvania at all. You don't even have save points. Could you tell me what is in it for a Metroidvania fan? I really wish I enjoyed it more, maybe it gets better later?

    • @zennvirus7980

      @@Thirteen13551355 About BMZ 3, you get several interconnecting routes to reach different points of each area, plus the "Super Dimension Space" which adds...another dimension (pun intended) to the areas, and especially the "SF" top-view stages (the ones with the green and blue squares in the map). The difficulty of those stages varies greatly whether you take advantage or not of this new feature. Plus, the bosses are the hardest, most satisfying fights of the series, especially when you reach the true final area... if you can figure out "how" to do so (not spoiling it, it is some real "outside the box thinking"...).
      As for Ori and the Will of the Wisps, you *do* have save points (the circular altars, which also function as teleports for fast travel). The game is a proper Metroidvania with lots and lots of stuff to find in every nook and cranny, plus the game places a high emphasis in platforming by virtue of all of Ori's acrobatic moves; and there are even "races" where you get to test your platforming skills. And while few, the bosses are awesome, especially those later in the game (EPIC, with "escape" sequences and all). Plus the music, which is DIVINE. Give it a try, the farther you go, the better it gets. And it gets GOOD.

    • @Thirteen13551355
      @Thirteen13551355 3 года назад

      @@zennvirus7980 I sure should give it another try. The thing I was most disappointed with (and I should have phrased differently), was not a lack of save points, but the fact that when you died, you would just start at the beginning of the room you died in. That removed the tension I like most in Metroidvanias.

    I bought all three of these games based on nostalgia and the one I enjoyed the most was the first one. There's something I can't put my finger on about this series that has just disappointed me. I think maybe it was many little issues. The graphics and music are top notch though.

    • @thomasburrus1
      @thomasburrus1 3 года назад +1

      Agreed. I like a lot of the features in 2 (and so far in 3), but you know what? The first one was the easiest; and I think that adds to its likability. I'm sure there are those out here who will say "git gud," but there was a charm in the first game of just getting to pwn your enemies when you realized how the weapon system works (I also liked doing the "multiplayer" here with my sons). Further, the first one was a remake of sorts, so it had the most nostalgic flavor. I've still enjoyed the series as a whole though.

    • @greyxl854

      @@thomasburrus1 BMZ1's weapon system is heavily flawed: just use the max level gun to shred through the game, everything goes down fast with no challenge. However, if you like the game, good for you. We all have different opinions and it would be better if everyone could respect each other's preferences.

    • @maximumforce8275

    I didn’t finish either of the first 2 games because the first one had a lot of empty rooms and unwhelming power ups that only helped you with situational stage hazards like ice or water. The second game was fun for a while but I eventually stopped at the flower planet because I felt at that point the game didn’t funnel you through its world organically. The bosses in both games were waaaaaaay too easy as well, especially 1. Do you think this game fixes those issues?

    i’m not really into this series, which is too bad cause i’m a huge retro fan myself. i have both 1 and 2 cause they were dirt cheap in a sale once, and i didn’t get far in either because the tank controls really badly and i felt like there were a lot of cheap deaths.. might try again though.

    • @NoisyPixelNews
      @NoisyPixelNews  3 года назад +1

    Shots like that at 1:18 are annoying. NES-like graphics over a clearly high colour background. Doesn't work for me at all and reminds me of bad fan-games that use assets from very different sources. And 4:40 where sprites are rotating at a higher resolution than the assets appear to be. All that stuff breaks the retro immersion for me in a big way. But the game in general is decent.

    Not interested in 8 bit games and never have been. Even in the 80s we had 16 bit arcade games. 8bit is 1970s technology ATARI. Sad thing is the pixels still look like crap on a new TV. Should of hand drew the animation to upscale to 4k. 8bit can't be upscaled. This game belongs on a CRT TV that no one owns.
