What is your ultimate goal? Preventing suicides or preventing the traffic from being stopped? If you think you are stopping suicides you are fooling yourself. Someone wanting to end it all will find a way. I am starting a poll. how soon after the barriers are put into place before the first person crawls over the barrier and completes their mission.

I'll put in my $0.02 (two cents) in on this Voice. First they have to actually install some type of barrier! As it's been 53 years since the bridge was finished and every time a plan is presented to cover this issue, SanDag or SD County or Coronado city or some group comes up with a reason for it NOT to happen. So you remember the idea a couple to 3 years ago to dress up the bridge with lights? Whatever happened to that idea? Similar, do you remember how the city use to drape the colorful lights across the Cabrillo Bridge at Balboa Park during Christmas time as a Welcome to the park and drive down to the Organ Pavilion? What happened to those lights? Whatever happened to the flags that use to drape across the bridge in all the holes that were drilled in the sidewalk along the bridge? Next time you walk across, take a look. So, do you REALLY think something is going to actually happen in 3 - 5 years to the bridge to protect us? Reality? Really? 3rd generation San Diegan.

Exactly. 8-10 feet isn't that high. If someone's in good shape, they could climb it. It's crazy. When I lived there a few years ago and had to commute to work at the base theater, I experienced the shutdown of the bridge at least 3 times due to a supposed jumper.

@@daisymae3883 When I was an avid Scanner listener, I heard via the dispatcher for SDPD and CHP the calls when the bridge would be closed - "Traffic diversion ..." The CHP close off the ramp from the 5 south and northbound and then at, if I remember correctly Glorietta Blvd. They may do it differently now as the medians have been altered in the area. What a PIA. Sad for the individuals who had progressed in their situations so far they felt there was no way out. (Been there so I know the thoughts of desperation and lack of hope and worthiness)

Nothing is ever mentioned about the People that either Jumped or attempted to Jump off the Bridge. Why? Also curious to know what lead up to that point and did they seek help and we're denied?

Hi Loretta, I watched and listened this video a couple of times. As a Native San Diegan, the issue of attempted or completed suicides from the bridge has been and issues since just after it opened in 1969. Meanwhile, the cities of San Diego and Coronado have discussed, talked about this issue but here we are 2022-1969 = 53 years later and STILL nothing has happened. Sure, signs have been added on the bridge. No one is looking for a small sign as they cross the bridge when in such a state of mind as to end their life by jumping. I admit, when I cross the bridge I am paying attention to my driving and grabbing a glimpse or two of the views available. NOW, again someone has come up with another plan. One plan, if remember correctly was taken from the idea of the nets that are on aircraft carriers so sailors and crew fall into the nets instead of overboard. GREAT IDEA!!! But honestly 3 - 5 years!!!! This is what causes me to GASP, not the plan but ongoing political BS about actually getting it done!!! In the video. Antonio Hernandez , spoke briefly regarding what may or may not assist in answering your questions. (1:45 - 2:20). Honestly, very little is stated these days regarding those specifics. If I remember correctly, the bridge is an expansion of the freeway system in San Diego thus under the jurisdiction the state of California the thus jurisdiction of the CHP. They are responsible for the traffic as well as Caltrans for the maintenance. The CHP most likely tracks the statistics.

What I don't understand is why that money can't be put towards a mental health system overhaul...
    Not barriers on a bridge..
We as citizens should be outraged and go march through the streets about it...
It's sad how we just continue to let disgusting things happen such as this... we all know someone who has struggled with mental health issues or it may even be your ur current struggle 🤔..
