The 1 in Canoga Park (Roscoe & Topanga) was my stomping grounds in the late 1960's as a kid, if I remember right, wasn't the pop corn free there. Always the same security guard sitting at that elevated desk right as you walk-in.
Yes, I remember the layout of the store as I worked at the one in Canoga Park in the early 80's until it finally closed. What memories. The elevated security desk was located at the left hand side when you walked into the store.
I remember Zodys was always a running gag on the Carol Burnett show where at the beginning of the show when she would always have her q&a with the audience. Sometimes an audience member would ask where she got her wardrobe and she would always say Zodys which would bring about a laugh from the audience.
I do remember Zody's from back in the day. My grandmother got me the Atari 2600 at the downtown LA store for Christmas 1981. We used to go to that one quite often. I still remember the huge photograph on the wall of the 1920's bathing flapper girls. We used to go to the one on Sunset and Western as well. And WOW! I *NEVER* knew that Federated Stores once owned the Ralph's grocery stores.
My parents bought my favorite pair of tennis shoes for Zodys. They were part sneakers and wedges, so fashion-forward for a discount store! I still think about those shoes.....Thanks for the memory lane.
@@EricCProductions76 - It was right down the street from Old Towne Mall on 182nd street and Hawthorne Blvd. It's technically Redondo Beach, not Torrance. It's a Ralph's now.
I remember Zody's in Los Angeles on Slauson Blvd. between Fairfax Avenue and La Cienega Blvd. just south of Windsor Hills. There is a Home Depot there now. I was 10 years old in 1973 and remember going there on the bus with my mom and later on in my two sister's cars. It was a straight shot from Slauson and Western Ave where we lived east of there. Great memories as well! 😊
In 1981, I bought a nice swede and cloth jacket for $10.00 at Zodys in City of Industry; 41 years later, it still looks as good as new. Now that's a bargin.
There were two Zodys in Tucson. The one at first and Grant is now a Fry’s supermarket (Kroger brand). I think the one on East Broadway is now an at home store. They were always fairly ghetto. We always called it Grodys.
The weird thing is what was considered low quality clothes back then would be considered luxury goods today. You can't even find 100% cotton today, let alone buy it. Look at how thick those clothes are compared to super thin polyester that's left today...@0:47
I worked at the Zody's department store in Canoga Park, Ca. the early 80's. It was located at Roscoe Blvd. and Topanga Canyon Blvd. I was one of 10 employees to help close around 8 of the stores during/after the liquidation sales. It was my first job when I moved out to Los Angeles after I graduated school back East in 1981. I also remember when that store was remodeled into The Giant (Ralphs grocery store) I still remember some of the employees there, but have lost contact with them. It was my "crash course" into the retail business...as I worked every hard lines and soft lines dept. over the time I was employed there.
In the early 80s, my family and I moved into a neighborhood with Zodys near by. This Zodys would be packed every weekend. We were shocked when we heard the news about Zodys shutting all of their stores. I guess just one store doing well was not enough to support all of Zodys.
I'm pretty sure there was a Zody's somewhere nearby, and we probably went in it once or twice, but it definitely wasn't somewhere we shopped at regularly. I don't recall ever going to one. ETA. Apparently, there was one nearby on Edinger, must be the one I'm thinking of.
The commercial reference Ralph's groceries yes we were told at zody's that Ralph would be hiring zody's employees as a priority and yes they did work for Ralph's it was a nightmare I work night crew thank God I got off
I really liked Zody’s. Worked at this one off of Chapman for a brief while way back in the day. I never knew this was the very first one. Interesting - thanks for the memories. 😊
I starred in a couple of there commercials. I tried to find these commercials that were filmed here locally in San Diego, Ca Can you help me locate or find any footage shot in the early 80's. 82-84?
I worked at the Burbank Zodys from 1968 through 1973. The nicest coworkers. We even spent time together after work. I met my husband there. Been married 53 years so far.
