You're definitely on to something with the "Engine". I've never went through the Chapin book, and unfortunately he's past. There is a great video narrated by Dom. Jim very rarely taught straight 8ths, or 16ths. He was all about the triplet!. His triplets swing! The Bonham hand to hand triplet accent can only go to a certain tempo before they take on a different accent pattern
Don't worry you're still got it and you're trying to show us how it's worth the time to practice it!. Of John Bonham is one of my favorite Drummers ever! My biggest problem is trying to get " The Swing " down in playing jazz drumming even though I try each time I play/ practice! Thanks again for sharing your videos and valuable information.
I'll be missing the live chats if it goes to Thursdays at 2pm. Saturday daytime too. Front line working sucks. So glad you did another video on the Bonham engine! You're awesome Terry!
@@bonzoleum no sir, I work stocking in a grocery store. When I'm not there I'm a care taker for my wife whose severely disabled with MS. We have a 3 & 4 year old too I take care of. I do volunteer any extra time doing front line work around town to help anyone I can as I do have some training from previous years, but I digress...
Terry, so the beginning ( 16th notes) of ramble on is an over dub? What about the middle of whole lotta love? Whomever is hitting the bell of the cymbol seems to just do it randomly. There is no true pattern.
I think Bonham played those taps in real time. I do think, though in Whole Lotta Love, that the hi hat could be a loop that they played over and overdubbed on.
@@bonzoleum Terry, if that was in real time ( ramble on ) how would of Bonham transitioned so seamlessly and quickly from using his hands to using sticks ?
@@danielg.8997 on the final recording it sounds like he’s trapping his legs with his hands, but when you listen to the isolated drums, you can hear he’s tapping something with his sticks.
You could try this on for size: www.rhythmtech.com/product/hat-trick-g2-double-row-brass-jingles/ They also make a single-row brass version (as well as nickel versions), but if you want your jingles to really blossom forth, this may be what you seek. Then again, maybe that's too much. You make the call! You could search eBay for 'ralph kester ching ring' to find a good (perhaps) reproduction, or maybe luck-out and come upon some nice NOS. Meinl Percussion offers similar hi-hat accoutrements, e.g.: meinlpercussion.com/en/products/hthh1b-bk-m8010 If you search their website for 'headliner hihat tambourine', you'll find this line-up.
