Shamadan Practice رقص الشمعدان

Raqs el Shemaedan (رقص الشمعدان) is a candelabra balancing dance from Egypt, originating among the professional entertainers of the late 1800s.

I am Shining, an American dancer living and researching traditional dance in Egypt since 2021. I began dancing in 2005 with fusion forms of bellydance and meandered my way to Egyptian Raqs el Sharqi "Oriental Dance" around 2011 and soon became really interested in Egyptian folk dances and traditional entertainment/raqs sharqi history and have largely focused on awalim and ghawazee recreations and research since 2015 when I fell in love with Raqs el Shemaedan.
